How to create a high performance culture | Andrew Sillitoe | TEDxRoyalTunbridgeWells

1158 ratings | 239716 views
Business Psychologist Andrew Sillitoe explores why some people rise to the top 20% in their field starting with research into why young people stay engaged with sport throughout their teens. Engaging others to operate at their full potential may be less of a mystery than we think – listen to Andrew’s story about what he learnt on the road playing street hockey and what it takes to create a high performance culture. All TEDxRoyalTunbridgeWells videos recorded by Graham Hobbs, Clockhouse Productions. http://www.clockhouse.co.uk/ When Andrew Sillitoe was 9 his mum bought him a street hockey stick. An unusual gift for an English boy living in the South East of England, but in that moment, his life would never be the same. He is now one of the most recognisable names in the inline hockey scene, both as a player and coach. Andrew studied an MSc in Organisational Psychology from Birkbeck University. He wrote his first book Managing the Mist How to develop winning mind-sets and create high performing teams in 2013. Andrew helps organisations achieve commercial success by creating teams with purpose. He passionately believes that a team with purpose is more innovative, diverse and agile to any organisation. He lives in Royal Tunbridge Wells with his wife Lucie and their two daughters Izzie and Freya. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Millenials are a different genearation and so enterprises (and specially HR) are doing new strategies to keep them engaged, I personally like to use the Moodbit App on my Slack so I can keep in track of how are they doing and if there's something I neeed to improve on my strategy.

Purpose Creates Impact (7 months ago)
It's true, people lose purpose by chasing money and fame sometimes not what they intended to do.

100% agree! It doesn't matter how much money you make, but how you make it.

Hi Andrew. Your presentation was very insightful and i enjoyed it tremendously. Sorry about your dad and i can imagine the impact this had on you and your immediate family. That said, you clearly found your purpose - well done.

This guy has pretty high IQ, performance correlates with IQ, and culture is only a temporary support idiots!

However, the TEDx project is terrible! There is very little quality!

How did you get them to embrace failure? I lead a team of perfectionists and they're so scared to risk failure to gain a learning opportunity!

Andrew Sillitoe thanks.

Better than Simon S. He is also good but this one has more feelings, emotions. I am really sorry about your dad. It is a reminder for me to avoid to miss that valuable moments. . I do believe that 5 keys for high performance. Only challenge is to remain calm after asking questions ( 2nd one)

The first nine minutes is story telling about someone calling him out for being "fluffy bollocks" and the last four minutes he talks about how to creating a performance culture.

amazing, why doesn't it have more views? :/
Jinhan Davis (11 months ago)
Probably because even though it is amazing, it doesn't cause enough people to share it.

Great video Andrew, really enjoyed watching. Was sorry to learn about your reference to your Dad but it did give a lot of weight to the story. Well done.
