UPDATE STATEMENT WITH JOIN IN ORACLE SQL

07:18
This video demonstrates how user can update data of a particular table(t1), based on the join condition with other table(t2). So it would be a easy way to ditch the for-loop, and check for the condition every time. What was to be achieved from the for-loop can be achieved with a single simple update statement. A simple trick to update data in table based on some conditional data in some another table, would help you to increase the performance of your code massively. For ex : UPDATE TABLE1 t1 SET COL1 = (SELECT COL FROM TABLE2 t2 where t1.col = t2.col);

Oracle SQL Tutorial 19 - ON DELETE (SET NULL and CASCADE)

05:59
Welcome everyone! Something you need to consider when you are creating foreign keys is what happens if you delete the parent? As a reminder, the parent is the row that has the value you are referencing in the row that has a foreign key. Why is this something important to consider? It's important because foreign keys need to protect us from two primary things, unacceptable INSERT statements, and unacceptable DELETE statements. Let's see what happens when we try to insert incorrect data into the table with the foreign key: INSERT INTO projects VALUES (1, 'Update website homepage', 'CalebCurry') The response tells us plainly that there is no such user in the users table. So this works correctly. Deleting data on the other hand works a bit differently because the database does not know what you want to do with the child row when you delete the parent from the parent table. By default, we will get an error message that prevents the parent from being deleted, but there are some other options. How do we configure this? This is where the ON DELETE statement comes in. We add the keywords ON DELETE right after the foreign key and then we can give it the option of CASCADE or SET NULL. CASCADE means that if we delete the parent, we are also going to delete the child. In our situation what that means is that if somebody creates a project in our project table and then that persons account gets deleted, all of the projects he owns will also be deleted. CASCADE: CREATE TABLE projects( project_id NUMBER, Project_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, creator VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT projects_pk PRIMARY KEY (project_id), CONSTRAINT projects_users_fk FOREIGN KEY (creator) REFERENCES users (username) ON DELETE CASCADE ) SET NULL will take the value in the child table and get rid of it. What you are left with is NULL. This means that we have an orphaned child. The first thought you might have is that it is a bad thing to have an orphaned child, but in databases that is not always so. In our application if we had it set to SET NULL, when a user account gets deleted the projects would remain in existence they would just lack a creator. This might be a good thing if you are concerned about the long term survival of a project, this might be the route you want to go. It ultimately depends on the application purpose. If you don't like CASCADE or SET NULL, you can leave the entire ON DELETE statement and just have Oracle throw an error when a parent is deleted. As for us, we are going to use ON DELETE CASCADE. We need to use this with extreme caution. If you are not careful, someday you will run a delete a row and that will cascade through you database deleting a bunch of stuff you didn't want to delete. Stuff happens, so make sure you back up your database every once in eternity. Now, in the last video we started with a database design that had three tables. We've only created two in this video. In the next video we are going to create the next one, which is a little special. Then we'll finish things up by adding some indexes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me on Patreon! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

SQL with Oracle 10g XE - Using UPDATE to Change Data in a Table

03:16
In this video I use the UPDATE command to change existing data within a table. When using the UPDATE command you also need to use the keyword SET to choose the field column you wish to change and also a WHERE statement to choose the individual record that needs changed. The command I used is: UPDATE BOOKS SET BINDING = 'P' WHERE BOOK_ID = '11'; This video is part of a series of videos with the purpose of learning the SQL language. Learn How to Update Data Rows using Update Statement in SQL

07:11
Learn about using UPDATE statement in SQL. As the name suggests UPDATE statement is used to update the data rows in a table. The UPDATE statement can update one or multiple column values in single SQL statement. WHERE clause is used to specify the data row to be updated. UPDATE statement without WHERE clause will update all the data rows in the table. Any existing data rows or records in target table remain unaffected. Here are the examples UPDATE statements, UPDATE tablename SET column1 = newvalue; UPDATE tablename SET column1 = newvalue1, column2 = newvalue2 WHERE columnid = 3; Select the "school" database, "USE school;" Run a simple SQL statement to display all the data rows in students table using SQL statement, "SELECT * FROM students;" Here in this result set, take a look at studentid 1. Suppose we have accidentally added this student record under class first instead of second. And now we are going to update this row to change the class value from 'First' to 'Second'. We will use the SQL statement, "UPDATE students SET class = 'Second' WHERE studentid = 1;" Press enter to execute the statement and display all the data rows in 'students' table, "SELECT * FROM students;" And sure enough the class value for studentid 1 is changed from 'First' to 'Second'. Oracle SQL 16 How to Update data in a table

08:24
USING SQL COMMAND Types of SQL Commands The following sections discuss the basic categories of commands used in SQL to perform various functions. These functions include building database objects, manipulating objects, populating database tables with data, updating existing data in tables, deleting data, performing database queries, controlling database access, and overall database administration. The main categories are DDL (Data Definition Language) DML (Data Manipulation Language) DQL (Data Query Language) DCL (Data Control Language) Data administration commands Transactional control commands Defining Database Structures Data Definition Language, DDL, is the part of SQL that allows a database user to create and restructure database objects, such as the creation or the deletion of a table. Some of the most fundamental DDL commands discussed during following hours include the following: CREATE TABLE ALTER TABLE DROP TABLE CREATE INDEX ALTER INDEX DROP INDEX CREATE VIEW DROP VIEW Manipulating Data Data Manipulation Language, DML, is the part of SQL used to manipulate data within objects of a relational database. There are three basic DML commands: INSERT UPDATE DELETE Selecting Data Though comprised of only one command, Data Query Language (DQL) is the most concentrated focus of SQL for modern relational database users. The base command is as follows: SELECT This command, accompanied by many options and clauses, is used to compose queries against a relational database. Queries, from simple to complex, from vague to specific, can be easily created. The SELECT command is discussed in exhilarating detail during Hours 7 through 16. A query is an inquiry to the database for information. A query is usually issued to the database through an application interface or via a command line prompt. Data Control Language Data control commands in SQL allow you to control access to data within the database. These DCL commands are normally used to create objects related to user access and also control the distribution of privileges among users. Some data control commands are as follows: ALTER PASSWORD GRANT REVOKE CREATE SYNONYM You will find that these commands are often grouped with other commands and may appear in a number of different lessons throughout this book. Data Administration Commands Data administration commands allow the user to perform audits and perform analyses on operations within the database. They can also be used to help analyze system performance. Two general data administration commands are as follows: START AUDIT STOP AUDIT Do not get data administration confused with database administration. Database administration is the overall administration of a database, which envelops the use of all levels of commands. Database administration is much more specific to each SQL implementation than are those core commands of the SQL language. Transactional Control Commands In addition to the previously introduced categories of commands, there are commands that allow the user to manage database transactions. COMMIT Saves database transactions ROLLBACK Undoes database transactions SAVEPOINT Creates points within groups of transactions in which to ROLLBACK SET TRANSACTION Places a name on a transaction Transactional commands are discussed extensively during Hour 6, "Managing Database Transactions." sql interview questions,sql interview questions and answers,interview questions for freshers,SQL,sql tutorial BEGINNERS,oracle,pl sql,pl/sql,mysql,oracle interview,google interview question,trigger in oracle,dbms,rdbms, oracle tutorial,pl sql basics,pl sql tutorials, pl sql example,sql,sql server ,query,sql query,questions,interview questions,coding interview,sql coding, code , database interview questions and answers,interview questions sql, interview questions,sql server,sql interview,interview sql,interview question sql join ,inner join, group by,select sql,interview questions ,sql basic, PL SQL Programs,PL SQL,PL SQL block,PL SQL Function,PL SQL Package,PL SQL Package body,PL SQL Procedure ,PL SQL Trigger,PL SQLType,PL SQL Type body,CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE,database interview questions and answers,interview questions sql, interview questions,sql server,Procedural Language,interview sql,interview question sql join ,inner join, group by,select sql,interview questions ,sql basic,pl sql variable,oraclecoach,claire rajan, PL SQL,PL SQL block,PL SQL Function,PL SQL Package,PL SQL Package body,PL SQL Procedure,PL SQL Trigger,PL SQLType,PL SQL

SQL Tutorial 4: Use ALTER , UPDATE, DELETE, and DROP statements

07:09
How do you ALTER, UPDATE, DELETE, DROP table in a database? A standard SQL scripts are applicable to all database vendors such as Informix, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL when employing this command including DB2. The video explains how to ALTER table. Alter command is used when you add or DROP column/s in a table. Make sure you execute REORG TABLE after the alteration. When changes are required to a row data, execute the UPDATE SET command. WHERE clause must be included to isolate records that fall on the criterion. Failure to do so will update the entire column of that table if done carelessly. WHERE clause is also used when executing a DELETE sql script. If you fail to include WHERE clause, the entire rows in the table will be deleted. Execute with caution when working with DROP command. On most cases, the changes are irreversible when you are done executing this command. You may DROP column, table, views, stored procedure, user defined functions, database or simply combined it with ALTER command.

CREATE TABLE command in sql/oracle,INSERT command in sql/oracle UPDATE,ALTER PASSWORD command in sql, GRANT command, REVOKE command i, CREATE SYNONYM command in sql/oracle, DELETE command in sql/oracle, ALTER TABLE command in sql/oracle, DROP TABLE command in sql/oracle, CREATE INDEX command in sql/oracle, ALTER INDEX command in sql/oracle, DROP INDEX command in sql/oracle, CREATE VIEW command in sql/oracle, DROP VIEW command in sql/oracle, Types of SQL Commands The following sections discuss the basic categories of commands used in SQL to perform various functions. Some of the most fundamental DDL commands discussed during following hours include the following: CREATE TABLE ALTER TABLE DROP TABLE CREATE INDEX ALTER INDEX DROP INDEX CREATE VIEW DROP VIEW These commands are discussed in detail during Hour 3, "Managing Database Objects," Hour 17, "Improving Database Performance," and Hour 20, "Creating and Using Views and Synonyms." Manipulating Data Data Manipulation Language, DML, is the part of SQL used to manipulate data within objects of a relational database. There are three basic DML commands: INSERT UPDATE DELETE These commands are discussed in detail during Hour 5, "Manipulating Data." Selecting Data Though comprised of only one command, Data Query Language (DQL) is the most concentrated focus of SQL for modern relational database users. COMMIT Saves database transactions ROLLBACK Undoes database transactions SAVEPOINT Creates points within groups of transactions in which to ROLLBACK SET TRANSACTION Places a name on a transaction Transactional commands are discussed extensively during Hour 6, "Managing Database Transactions."

Oracle SQL MERGE Statement

07:52
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-merge-sql/ In this video, we’ll learn what the Oracle MERGE statement does and how you can use it. What is the MERGE statement? It’s a statement that lets you either insert or update data in a table - all in a single statement! It’s helpful if you’re using an ETL (Extract Transform Load) process when creating or updating a data warehouse. It’s also helpful when loading data into your own database if you’re not creating a data warehouse. It allows you to prevent duplicate data and ensure you have up-to-date data in your table. The syntax looks like this: MERGE INTO table_name USING table_name ON (condition) WHEN MATCHED THEN update_clause DELETE where_clause WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN insert_clause [LOG ERRORS log_errors_clause reject_limit integer | unlimited ] In this video, I also show an Oracle SQL MERGE statement example, so watch the video to find out more. For more information on the MERGE statement and how you can use it in your queries, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-merge-sql/

SQL Server 17 - ON DELETE and ON UPDATE

08:14
Now, what happens when you have successfully created a reference, and now you try deleting the parent? This is where the ON DELETE clause comes in. This is essentially how we configure how strict a foreign key is. There are 4 options you can give for an ON DELETE: Standard SQL Server NO ACTION Yes (Default) CASCADE Yes SET NULL Yes SET DEFAULT Yes Now the default is NO ACTION. This means that when you try to delete a parent row, SQL Server is going to throw an error and not let you. Cascade means that if you delete the parent row, any rows that reference that parent will also be deleted. This is pretty dangerous and not often recommended. SET NULL will set the foreign key to be NULL. Now obviously, this is going to require that the foreign key is not labelled NOT NULL. Finally, set DEFAULT will change the reference to the child row to some default value. We have not discussed defaults, but a column can have a default value. For example, we could make a deleted user in our Users table, and set the default for the foreign key to be the deleted user, and when any other users are deleted it will default to the deleted user UserId. In addition to the ON DELETE clause, there is the ON UPDATE clause. This one is a little less common because it configures what happens when a parent value changes. Obviously, when you are referencing a primary key, the ON UPDATE clause is nearly useless. That's because the primary key value is never supposed to change. If, on the other hand, we have a foreign key referencing a UNIQUE column that is not a primary key, it may change occasionally. So the only times you have to worry about the ON UPDATE clause is with foreign keys referencing UNIQUE columns that are not a primary key, and when you have natural keys that break the rules and actually do change at some point in time. The ON UPDATE clause has the same options as the ON DELETE clause and they all work the same way. Now, the last thing you need to know about foreign keys is that they must match the data type of the column you are referencing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

The Magic of SQL: Column Update Mystery

You use the update statement in SQL to modify existing values in a row. Normally you have to assign values to each column explicitly. In this video Chris updates the value in one column and also changes the value in another column - without any triggers in sight! This means a given student can be enrolled into many courses and a given course can have many students enrolled. Below is the question asked in an interview for SQL Server Developer role. Write a SQL script to insert data into StudentCourses table. Here are the rules that your script should follow. 1. There will be 2 inputs for the script Student Name - The name of the student who wants to enroll into a course Course Name - The name of the course the student wants to enroll into 2. If the student is already in the Students table, then use that existing Student Id. If the student is not already in the Students table, then a row for that student must be inserted into the Students table, and use that new student id. 3. Along the same lines, if the course is already in the Courses table, then use that existing Course Id. If the course is not already in the Courses table, then a row for that course must be inserted into the Courses table, and use that new course id. 4. There should be no duplicate student course enrollments, i.e a given student must not be enrolled in the same course twice. For example, Tom must not be enrolled in C# course twice. Answer : To avoid duplicate student course enrollments create a composite primary key on StudentId and CourseId columns in StudentCourses table. With this composite primary key in place, if someone tries to enroll the same student in the same course again we get violation of primary key constraint error. Alter table StudentCourses Add Constraint PK_StudentCourses Primary Key Clustered (CourseId, StudentId) Here is the SQL script that inserts data into the 3 tables as expected Declare @StudentName nvarchar(50) = 'Sam' Declare @CourseName nvarchar(50) = 'SQL Server' Declare @StudentId int Declare @CourseId int -- If the student already exists, use the existing student ID Select @StudentId = Id from Students where StudentName = @StudentName -- If the course already exists, use the existing course ID Select @CourseId = Id from Courses where CourseName = @CourseName -- If the student does not exist in the Students table If (@StudentId is null) Begin -- Insert the student Insert into Students values(@StudentName) -- Get the Id of the student Select @StudentId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End -- If the course does not exist in the Courses table If (@CourseId is null) Begin -- Insert the course Insert into Courses values(@CourseName) -- Get the Id of the course Select @CourseId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End -- Insert StudentId & CourseId in StudentCourses table Insert into StudentCourses values(@StudentId, @CourseId) If required, we can very easily convert this into a stored procedure as shown below. Create procedure spInsertIntoStudentCourses @StudentName nvarchar(50), @CourseName nvarchar(50) as Begin Declare @StudentId int Declare @CourseId int Select @StudentId = Id from Students where StudentName = @StudentName Select @CourseId = Id from Courses where CourseName = @CourseName If (@StudentId is null) Begin Insert into Students values(@StudentName) Select @StudentId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End If (@CourseId is null) Begin Insert into Courses values(@CourseName) Select @CourseId = SCOPE_IDENTITY() End Insert into StudentCourses values(@StudentId, @CourseId) End Use the following statement to execute the stored procedure Execute spInsertIntoStudentCourses 'Tom','C#'

Welcome to our Tech Talk Tricks channel. The UPDATE Statement is used to modify the existing rows in a table. With the help of Update query, we can easily update our existing data in the table. #TechTalkTricks #RanaSingh The Syntax for SQL UPDATE Command is: UPDATE table_name SET column_name1 = value1, column_name2 = value2, ... [WHERE condition] table_name - the table name which has to be updated. column_name1, column_name2.. - the columns that gets changed. value1, value2... - are the new values. NOTE: In the Update statement, WHERE clause identifies the rows that get affected. If you do not include the WHERE clause, column values for all the rows get affected. At tech talk trick channel you will learn all kind of technology like language,tutorials and amazing computer tips and tricks. delete command in sql sql update multiple columns sql update multiple rows alter query in sql sql update from another table sql update join update query in oracle update query in php ************************************************** Follow Tech Talk Trick on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/techtalktricks ************************************************** Follow tech talk trick on Twitter https://twitter.com/tecktalktrick ************************************************** Follow Tech Talk Tricks on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/techtalktricks ************************************************** Subscribe tech talk tricks on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/techtalktricks ***************************************************

PL/SQL tutorial | Cursor in Oracle Database 11g Complete guide

13:50
Learn in depth about cursor in oracle database 11g, and why to use cursor.Writing Implicit cursor and explicit cursor following using 'for loop' inside cursor to fetch multiple records from oracle database. Cursor in Oracle Cursor in PL/SQL Oracle Cursor PL/SQL Cursor What is cursor in PL/SQL How to use cursor in PL/SQL Implicit cursor in PL/SQL Explicit cursor in PL/SQL A cursor is a pointer to this context area. PL/SQL controls the context area through a cursor. A cursor holds the rows (one or more) returned by a SQL statement. The set of rows the cursor holds is referred to as the active set. Implicit Cursors Implicit cursors are automatically created by Oracle whenever an SQL statement is executed, when there is no explicit cursor for the statement. Programmers cannot control the implicit cursors and the information in it. %FOUND Returns TRUE if an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement affected one or more rows or a SELECT INTO statement returned one or more rows. Otherwise, it returns FALSE. %NOTFOUND The logical opposite of %FOUND. It returns TRUE if an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement affected no rows, or a SELECT INTO statement returned no rows. Otherwise, it returns FALSE. %ISOPEN Always returns FALSE for implicit cursors, because Oracle closes the SQL cursor automatically after executing its associated SQL statement. %ROWCOUNT Returns the number of rows affected by an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement, or returned by a SELECT INTO statement. Explicit Cursors Explicit cursors are programmer-defined cursors for gaining more control over the context area. An explicit cursor should be defined in the declaration section of the PL/SQL Block. It is created on a SELECT Statement which returns more than one row Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aditya-kumar-roy-b3673368/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SpecializeAutomation/

GridView insert update delete in asp.net - Part 23

23:47
Link for csharp, asp.net, ado.net, dotnet basics and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for text version of this video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/03/gridview-insert-update-delete-in-aspnet.html In this video we will discuss about performing an insert, update and delete on asp.net gridview control using sqldatasource. We will be using tblEmployee table for this demo. SQL script to create and populate this table with sample data is available in Part 13 of asp.net gridview tutorial. Create an asp.net web application. Drag and drop a gridview and a sqldatasource control on WebForm1.aspx. Configure "SqlDataSource1" control 1. Right click on "SqlDataSource1" control and select "Show Smart Tag" 2. Now click on "Configure Data Source" link 3. Select connection string, from the dropdownlist on "Choose your data connection" screen. You need to have a connection string specified in web.config file. 4. Click Next 5. On "Configure the Select Statement" screen, select "tblEmployee" table from dropdownlist. 6. Click on "Advanced" button 7. Select "Generate INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements" checkbox and click OK 8. Click Next and Finish Drag and drop gridview control on WebForm1.aspx. Now let us associate "SqlDataSource1" control with "GridView1" control 1. Right click on "GridView1" control and select "Show Smart Tag" 2. Select "SqlDataSource1" from "Choose Data Source" dropdownlist 3. Select "Enable Deleting" and "Enable Editing" checkboxes. At this point "Delete" and "Edit" buttons should appear on the gridview control. We will be using gridview control's footer for inserting a new record. Set "ShowFooter" property of the GridView1 control to "true". This can be done from the properties window, or in the HTML. By default GridView control has generated bound fields to display EmployeeId, Name, Gender and City columns. We need to convert these bound fields into template fields. This can be done very easily using the designer. 1. On the "GridView Tasks" pane click on "Edit Columns" link button. 2. Select "EmployeeId" from "Selected Fields" section and click on "Convert this field into a template field" link 3. Do the same for Name, Gender and City Now modify the template fields in the HTML. Please note 1. In every TemplateField, along with EditItemTemplate and ItemTemplate, we also need FooterTemplate. 2. A dropdownlist is used in EditItemTemplate and FooterTemplate of "Gender" template field, instead of a textbox control. 3. To validate data during edit and insert operations, notice that, we are using validation controls, in EditItemTemplate and FooterTemplate. 4. A linkbutton is used in the footer template of "EmployeeId" template field, to enable the user to insert a new employee row 5. We have used ValidationGroup="Insert" for all the validation controls in FooterTemplates. LinkButton's ValidationGroup is aslo set to "Insert", so that all the validation controls in in FooterTemplates are fired only on Insert LinkButton click. 6. We have set LinkButton's OnClick="lbInsert_Click". 7. After the closing tag of GridView, notice that we are using 2 validationsummary controls, to display all the validation messages in one place. ValidationSummary1 control's ValidationGroup is set to "Insert". ValidationSummary1 control displays all insert related validation errors, and edit related validation errors are displayed using ValidationSummary2 control. Finally copy and paste the following event handler method in WebForm1.aspx.cs protected void lbInsert_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { SqlDataSource1.InsertParameters["Name"].DefaultValue = ((TextBox)GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("txtName")).Text; SqlDataSource1.InsertParameters["Gender"].DefaultValue = ((DropDownList)GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("ddlGender")).SelectedValue; SqlDataSource1.InsertParameters["City"].DefaultValue = ((TextBox)GridView1.FooterRow.FindControl("txtCity")).Text; SqlDataSource1.Insert(); }
