SQL Date Comparison - How to filter Datetime in SQL Server - SQL Training Online

08:41
http://www.sqltrainingonline.com SQL Date Comparison - How to filter Datetime in SQL Server - SQL Training Online In this video, I show you how to do a SQL Date Comparison in SQL Server when your Datetime has an actual time in it. I also include the latest trick that will make this easier if you are using SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012. How do you compare a Datetime in SQL Server? A SQL Datetime stores both Date and Time. So when you are filtering using the SQL Where clause, you have to know if you Datetime is storing the time also. Let's take a look at the employee table in SQL Training Online Simple DB The column we are looking at is the hire date. I want to go after the person who was hired on February, 22 2005. So, I use the following SQL. select * from employee where hire_date='02/22/2005' Now, this works because we don't have any times stored in this column. But, if I change the record from 2005-02-22 00:00:00.000 to 2005-02-22 08:22:25.000 and rerun the query, you see that I don't get any results. That is because the value of 02/22/2005 is really 2005-02-22 00:00:00.000 and I just changed the hire_date to include a time other than 00:00:00.000. So, I have to tweak my query to use a greater than and less than sign. This works. But, to really understand what is going on, let me show you what SQL Server really sees. There are other ways, and in this StackOverflow article you can read more about these other ways. But, I want to point out a few. If you are working in SQL Server 2005 or earlier, the following is supposed to be the fastest performing way to do this. select datediff(dd,0, hire_date),* from employee where dateadd(dd,0, datediff(dd,0, hire_date)) = '2005-02-22' But, if you are working in SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012, they have introduced an actual Date datatype that doesn't include the Time portion. Since this is the case, you can use the CAST function to remove the time from the Datetime. Here is the SQL to do that. select * from employee where CAST(hire_date AS Date) = '2005-02-22' And that's it. If you enjoy the video, please give it a like, comment, or subscribe to my channel. Using Oracle to read data from SQL Server

10:47
Hi everyone, Andy from Easysoft Limited here, what I want to show you today is how to get data from SQL Server into Oracle. Now for this we will be accessing SQL Server 2014 from Oracle 12 and getting data across. This could be quite easily be any SQL Server version from 2008 and any Oracle version from 11.2, the configuration and process is the same. We can obviously get access to data on SQL Server prior to 2008 and Oracle prior to version 11.2 but it will need a different configuration to what I am going to show you today The plan is also to add more data to the SQL Server table and show this new data back in Oracle. To start off you'll need access to ensure that you have access to your SQL Server and Oracle databases. You'll also need the Easysoft SQL Server ODBC Driver available from www.easysoft.com; just download it, install it and request the free 14 day trial licence. Before we start we need to make some changes to the standard Easysoft config files. cat /etc/odbc.ini Here I have changed Mars Connection to Yes. It must be set to "Yes" if you are connecting to SQL Server 2005 or newer. Easysoft supports all SQL data types from the version of SQL Server from version 7. Oracle supports data types that are common to most ODBC Drivers, but not some of the SQL Server ones. If you intend to access VARCHAR(MAX) for example, then there are some additional settings that need to be set up. Now as I would like to show you VARCHAR(MAX) data moving from SQL Server to Oracle, I have made the relevant change. As you can see, VarMaxAsLong says "Yes" We now need to create a link from Oracles Database Gateway (DG4ODBC) to the ODBC datasource that we already have, this is done in an init(sid) oracle file; let's have a look at our file. cat $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/initsqlsrv.ora Please note that HS_NLS_NCHAR must be set to UCS2 Oracle assume that most database vendors use UTF-8 for wide characters, however Easysoft, like almost all ODBC Driver vendors (including Oracles own ODBC Driver) uses UCS2 for wide characters. So that's the link between DG4ODBC and the datasource setup correctly. Next we need to set up the Listener entry The Oracle Listener waits for incoming requests from the Oracle database. For the Oracle Listener to listen for requests, information about DG4ODBC must be added to the Oracle Listener configuration file, listener.ora cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora The PROGRAM=dg4odbc tells the Listener that we are wanting to use the Oracle database gateway to communicate with ODBC. The ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH tells Oracle what library to load Now that's all set up and OK we need to tell Oracle which server to attach the listener entry to. This is done in tnsnames.ora, and he is the file that we ensured was set up earlier. cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora The Oracle Listener now needs to be restarted. lsnrctl stop lsnrctl start OK, that's now started the Listener up again. So we have ensured that all the configuration files are set up correctly. The Listener and tnsnames.ora both set up OK. The final step is to create a link from the Oracle database to the "tnsnames.ora" entry. CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK ODBC CONNECT TO "test" IDENTIFIED BY "test" USING 'sqlsrv_ptr'; Right, that's all done. Let's access the data in SQL Server now. select * from [email protected]; Where 'demo' is the name of the SQL Server table and 'odbc' is the public database link name. OK, there we have the data. So to recap, I'm in Oracle and we have managed to read the data from SQL Server. Let's just add an additional row in that SQL Server table and retrieve the new data in Oracle. quit; /usr/local/easysoft/unixODBC/bin/isql.sh -v sqlsrv insert into demo values (2,'Easysoft') select * from demo select * from [email protected]; And there is the new data. Easysoft Limited can help you with your data access ... for our full range of ODBC and JDBC Drivers, Bridges and Gateways visit easysoft.com Be sure to let us know if you have any comments or questions. Until next time, thanks again and we'll see you again soon.

We can also say that SQL tables are kind of data structure which are used by database for efficient storage of data. To create a table in our database we use SQL CREATE TABLE command. SQL CREATE TABLE is a type of DATA DEFINITION LANGUAGE also known as DDL. To Create a table in your schema you will require CREATE TABLE system privilege. In our future videos we will see what are system and object privileges and how to grant them to a user. Today for this video we will be using Sample schema HR which already has all the necessary privileges. Ohk Let's see the syntax. CREATE TABLE table name ( column name1 Data-Type(size), column name2 Data-Type(size), ..... ); CREATE TABLE is an oracle reserved word or say an Oracle key word whereas There are 3 different ways of creating a table in Oracle database. Creating a table using Command Line Interface (CLI) in Oracle database For demonstrating how to create table in oracle database using CLI, I'll be using Command prompt. Thats how we create table using command prompt. you can check your table structure by DESCRIBE command for that just write DESC and your table name. Like this Another way of creating a table is by using Graphic user interface (GUI) in Oracle database To demonstrate how to create table using GUI we will use SQL developer. Lets open our SQL developer I am connected to HR schema if you do not know how to create a connection to database using SQL developer please watch my oracle database tutorial 4 that explains database connectivity using SQL developer and command prompt. Link for this video is in the description below. So lets create a table. Creating a table using SQL developer is very easy we do not have to fire any query here. Let's start First of all right click on your connection in which you want to create a table and choose schema browser. This will open a separate schema browser pane or you can expend your connection by clicking this + sign and then right click on table and choose New Table. However I prefer working with schema browser so let's skip to schema browser pane here from the first drop-down list you can choose connection name and in the second drop down list you can choose what database objects you want to work with we want to create a table thus I'll choose table and then click this arrow here and choose option for new table Ok we have created a table wizard first of all give a unique name to your table and add some column as well. For this, click the green plus button. Now we already have a column so give it some name. Also choose a datatype from the list and specify any size you can check this not null column if in case you want to make this a mandatory column you can also specify default value and constraint If you want to make this column a primary key you can click here In my future video i'll show you what are these constraints and different ways of applying them on a column in a table. for this video we will concentrate on create table only so when you are done with all your columns click ok Thats your table You can double click on your table here and can see its structure. Thats it

Oracle 12c PL/SQL Security Enhancements - Session 2 of 8- Tutorial Agenda

04:11
What's in the SkillBuilders Oracle 12c PL/SQL Security New Features tutorial. John Watson: What I want to talk about today is some security issues with 11g PL/SQL and then moving on to Oracle Database 12c. [see how they've been addressed] In general previous releases of the database have had real problems with security particularly with PL/SQL. This does cause a bit of confusion out there when you read third party assessments contrasting Oracle security with say SQL server and so on. Some people will say that Oracle security is rubbish. Other people will say it's fantastic. What causes that paradox? It's because you can secure your database, but you have to do it. Out of the box the database is stuffed full of marvelous facilities - the developer's marvelous facilities for users - but many of them are potentially highly dangerous. So make no mistake. Oracle database can and should be totally secure, but if your DBAs and your programmers don't make it secure it may be wide open to abuse, wide open to hackers. This has always been a problem. With later releases 11 and now 12, the situation is improving. There are more and more things that one can do declaratively, more techniques for tightening up those wonderfully powerful facilities that can be open to abuse. So what I'm going to go through is spend some time with 11g. We have to. We have to understand what some of the problems are that are being addressed. Also, of course, 11g will be available to be useful for several years to come. I'll spend some time in 11g environment looking at some of the major issues in the PL/SQL environment. Then we will move on to 12c and see some of the new facilities and see how they tighten up the security issues that we see with 11g. If possible - I don't know if this will come true or not - I'll maybe have quick look at network access control list I completely re-implemented in 12c and maybe talk a bit about the advanced security option as well as that has changed somewhat too. That's the agenda I intend to follow. Beginning with 11g, we'll go through what are the definer's rights, what are invoker's rights for code, the relationship between roles and PL/SQL. These issues, definer's rights, invoker's rights and roles is potentially very useful but cause a lot of confusion. I remember when I installed PL/SQL, it first came when it was first introduced in version 7 many, many years ago I found this mind bogglingly confusing. Invoker's rights came in a couple of releases later and then died. That added to the confusion because invoker's rights attempted to fix the problem caused by definer's rights. Roles have always been confusing in the PL/SQL 11g environment. We then move on to the 12c techniques. It's a whole new privilege - inherit privileges or inherit any privileges. That tightens up some of the problems with both views and with PL/SQL. They're very nice facility indeed. We can now grow up roles to procedures, so the confusion of roles in PL/SQL, that is not removed, but we can use roles in a much more [03:31 inaudible] fashion with PL/SQL in 12c. Also, closer [03:35 inaudible], that's the concept of the bequeath view. Just as PL/SQL stored procedures they execute definer's rights to invoker's rights with the privileges of the person who owns the PL/SQL or with the privileges of the person who invokes the PL/SQL. It's the same with views. Historically views are always executed with the privileges of the owner. Now, to a certain extent we can have what I might always call an invoker's rights view. Then if we have time, a couple of other things as well.

AWS re:Invent 2018: Migrating Your Oracle & SQL Server Databases to Amazon Aurora (DAT318)

01:05:43
Organizations today are looking to free themselves from the constraints of on-premises commercial databases and leverage the power of cloud-native and open-source systems. Amazon Aurora is a MySQL- and PostgreSQL-compatible relational database that is built for the cloud, with the speed, reliability, and availability of commercial databases at one-tenth the cost. In this session, we provide an overview of Aurora and its features. We talk about the latest advances in migration tooling and automation, and we explain how many of the common legacy features of Oracle and SQL Server map to modern cloud variants. We also hear from Dow Jones about its migration journey to the cloud.
