Numbered headings are challenging to format. But if they are correctly created, they can make formatting your documents much easier. Numbered headings allow you to cross-reference to them and if you need to move a paragraph, it will automatically renumber your numbered headings when you update the document. www.formattingformula.com https://youtu.be/sLoHkh6QyPE

Hierarchical Outline numbering for Microsoft Word Documents

12:43
Learn how to apply hierarchical outline numbering for Microsoft Word Documents in a way that works well for formatting technical documentation and proposals. Headings will have the format 1 Title, 1.1 Subtitle, 1.1.1 Next Level Subtitle, etc. and your headings will autonumber the right way. I also discuss why you would use this format, and in what situations you would NOT use this format. At the end, I added some bonus content on how to leverage the outline numbered headings to make a table of contents, and how to handle headings for Appendix sections that you want to appear in the TOC but do not want numbered. If you watch this video, I would really appreciate your feedback. I have a goal to bring more than just "how to steps" to my audience, but to also really explain the WHY aspect of using certain features of Microsoft Office. Thanks for watching!

How To Create Multilevel Numbering In Word (That Actually Works)

10:31
Cheat Sheet available at https://officemastery.com/word-multilevel-numbering/ What others are saying about this video: - "Cleared up a mystery I've been struggling with for 20 years. Thank you." - PS - "Thank you. I've been struggling with this for ages. Other tutorials miss important steps." - JK - "Hey man, Very Helpful Video it helped me a lot ;) , You deserve a medal for that explanation ! :)" - AM --- (TOPIC TIME CODES and SHOW NOTES are listed below). Setting up multilevel numbering in Word (level 1, level 1.1, level 1.1.1 etc.) can be infuriating, if you don't know how to set it up properly. Many people give up and resort to numbering everything manually. In this video, I strip everything back to bare basics and walk you step-by-step through how to set up multilevel numbering in Word (from scratch). You'll discover how to control what numbering to use, dependencies and positioning. You'll see how easy it is to apply the numbering system to existing content and promote and demote text through the different levels. I finish by linking the numbering to the built in Word styles such as Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3 so that text can be easily numbered at any time and the rest of the document will be renumbered automatically. In this video I show you how to make chapters, sections and subsections using the heading styles in word and format them the way you want. Useful to know for making a thesis/ dissertation in word. After making the headings you can use the navigation pane to move to different places in the document which is useful if you have a very long document. I wouldn't normally number the abstract but this is just an example of how to make the sections, not necessarily how they should be numbered or formatted. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #wordtutorials #mswordtutorial #wordtipsandtricks SUBSCRIBE: https://goo.gl/c46YPs VIDEO INFO: This writing is part of my PhD thesis. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IF YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO YOU MAY ALSO LIKE: - This video is part of a playlist: Writing a thesis in Word https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVe64sIb7fSbqk3P0cO4UfdGstTk8Jjn7 - How to make a table of contents in word https://youtu.be/vfAdcbOUc0Q - How to make figure captions and a table of figures in word https://youtu.be/HbhcYQzMKmU

Start Numbering on Page 2 with "Page x of y" numbering style

The challenge with setting up this type of page numbering is that when you start numbering on the second page at 1, the number of pages will be 1 more than the last page number. For example, if you have a Title page that is not numbered, followed by four pages, By default, the page numbering for your four pages will be: Page 1 of 5 Page 2 of 5 Page 3 or 5 Page 4 of 5 Because there are actually 5 pages in the document. This tutorial shows two methods to remedy this. One method uses a formula field that subtracts 1 from the number of pages. The other method uses a section break between the title page and body of the document and a field for the number of pages in the section rather than number of pages in the document. Enjoy! Multilevel CAPTION Numbering In Word For Images, Tables & Equations

07:34
This video demonstrates how to set up multilevel CAPTION numbering in Word (i.e. Figure 2.a, Table 3.b, Equation 4.c etc.). If you need to know how to to multilevel numbering for HEADINGS or PARAGRAPHS (i.e. section 1, section 1.1, section 1.1.1 etc.) then there's a separate video for that. [Video] Multilevel numbering: https://youtu.be/He_ob8ydc9E --- Many people struggle with setting up multilevel numbering in Microsoft Word. Often the numbering does not run in the correct sequence, or seems to reset randomly. It's frustrating because it doesn't seem to behave logically or follow any kind of pattern. In this video, I answer a question from a customer and demonstrate step-by-step how to create multilevel numbering for tables, multilevel numbering for images (figures) or multilevel numbering for equations, which are often interspersed throughout a document. The numbering can either bet set manually or automatically. Once the numbering stage is complete, you can quickly create a table of figures, a table of tables and a table or equations. These normally appear alongside the table of contents at the beginning of the document. There's a bit to it because I've tried to tackle all the angles, but let me know what you think by sharing a comment.
