Step # 1 -- Finding the Water Temperature Map The first step is going to be navigating to the government site that provides this information, this can be found at "www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg". You will be presented with a map of the US broken down into states, with any states having the water temperature available having a color. Step # 2 -- Finding a Temperature Measurement Point To view the water temperature in a specific state click on it -- in this example we are clicking on Texas. A new page will load and you will see a Google Maps image with several markers on it. These markers represent points where there is a temperature recording being made and to view the temperature at this point simply click on the marker. When we do this a box with additional details will appear. Step # 3 -- Finding the Water Temperature These details tell you where the thermometer is located as well as the current temperature. The temperature is displayed in Fahrenheit, with the Celsius figure being displayed in brackets. You will be told when the reading was last made as well as an average reading for the month. This process can be repeated for finding water temperatures in all the states available on the overview map on the previous page.

2008 Hurricane Season with Sea Surface Temperature

04:53
This animation depicts the 2008 hurricane season and the corresponding water temperature, for the dates 6/1/08 through 11/30/08. The colors on the ocean represent the sea surface temperatures, and satellite images of the storm clouds are laid over the temperatures to clearly show the positions of the storms. Hurricane winds are sustained by the heat energy of the warm surface waters of the ocean. As a hurricane passes over the warm surface it churns the water, drawing the deeper, cooler water to the surface. This mixing can appear in the animation as a blue pool trailing the hurricane. The sea surface temperature data was taken by the AMSR-E instrument on the Aqua satellite, while the cloud images were taken by the Imager on the GOES-12 satellite. Why is water temperature important for plants | Maintain normal temperature in water tank

05:35
URDU/HINDI/ENGLISH Subscribe Our Channel for Daily Updates: https://www.youtube.com/c/hobbygardening?sub_confirmation=1 ========== ► Our Facebook Gardening Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/158807314550569/ ========= ---------------------------------------------- WHY IS WATER TEMPERATERE IMPORTANT FOR PLANTS Water temperature has a direct effect on the growth of aquatic plants. An unnatural introduction of warm water into a water body is called thermal pollution. The ideal water temperature to use when watering plants is between 62 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. This avoids shocking the plant with water that is either too hot or too cold. Timing of the watering is also important. It is best to water in the morning, when temperatures are cool and less water will be lost to evaporation. However, plants can be watered in the heat of the day with no danger as long as the water temperature is not too hot. Evening watering is discouraged because the wet foliage is susceptible to fungus infections. When watering your plants, it is essential to use water at the right temperature. This is because the roots of your plants are very sensitive to extremes of temperature. Using water that is too hot or too cold can put your plant under stress and cause damage. Root temperature The optimum temperature for roots to absorb water and nutrients is around 68°F. At that temperature, the water in the substrate still contains a lot of oxygen, and it is also exactly the right temperature to trigger the pump mechanism in the roots. At lower temperatures, the pump mechanism will not work as effectively, while at higher temperatures the plant is less able to take up oxygen from the water. Additionally, higher temperatures and a lack of oxygen can cause an increase in harmful moulds (such as Pythium) and bacteria, and all the problems that associated with those. Substrate So it’s very important to maintain the right temperature in your substrate. Unfortunately, you can’t regulate the temperature of the substrate through watering. To do that, you would need to use extremely hot or cold water, and as we mentioned, that would put the plant under stress; and in any case, a quarter of an hour later, the temperature in the substrate would be back to what it was before watering.

sea surface temps 1900-2100 #4

Most bugs fixed. The big problem was the skewed database (WOD). At both ends and in the middle (1900, 1940, 2000) the datapoints for surface temps were few and unrepresentative, needing some fiddling to correct automatically. If nothing else, made my stats s/w is now stronger. :) The annual avg sea surface temps geq 35C grow from nothing in c1900 to maybe 10% of the equatorial waters c2000. The average warming 1900-200 works out around 1.0C over the whole period -- about 50% more than the average land surface temps over the same time.

NOAA Ocean Today: 'Adopt a Drifter'

02:09
Adopt a Drifter is a unique program that teaches kids about ocean currents in real time. Scientists deploy drifting buoys that collect data on sea surface temperatures. Schools or classrooms "Adopt" one of these buoys and track its location and data online. Adopt a Drifter is science in action -- giving kids an inside view of how the ocean connects us all. http://oceantoday.noaa.gov/adoptadrifter/ TRANSCRIPT BELOW: Narrator: Covering 70% of the Earth's surface, the ocean plays a major role in our climate, weather, and living conditions for plants and animals. Through the NOAA Adopt a Drifter Program, kids are learning about ocean currents in real time, as scientists collect and analyze ocean data. First, drifting buoys are deployed from ships at sea. As they are carried along ocean currents, "drifters" measure and transmit sea surface temperature data and positioning coordinates via satellite for about 400 days. Surface ocean currents are a continuous, directed movement of ocean water generated by forces such as the wind and steered by Earth's rotation. Surface currents carry heat from place to place, which affects our planet's climates. Students follow their adopted drifter and analyze the sea surface temperature data in their classrooms as it's posted online. The data are then used by both ocean scientists and students to track warm and cold currents. Understanding where and how fast the warm and cold currents are flowing is useful in several ways. It helps provide more accurate weather forecasts, track oil spills, and learn where drifting plants, animals, and migrating species travel. Adopt a Drifter is science in action -- giving kids an inside view of how the ocean connects us all. Learn more about NOAA's Adopt a Drifter Program at http://www.adp.noaa.gov/.

http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/2011-temps.html The global average surface temperature in 2011 was the ninth warmest since 1880.The finding sustains a trend that has seen the 21st century experience nine of the 10 warmest years in the modern meteorological record. NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York released an analysis of how temperatures around the globe in 2011 compared to the average global temperature from the mid-20th century. The comparison shows how Earth continues to experience higher temperatures than several decades ago. The average temperature around the globe in 2011 was 0.92 degrees F (0.51 C) higher than the mid-20th century baseline. Visualisierung der Strömungen und Temperaturen des Golfstroms vom Golf von Mexiko bis nach Westeuropa. This visualization shows the Gulf Stream stretching from the Gulf of Mexico all the way over towards Western Europe. This visualization was produced using model output from the joint MIT/JPL project: Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean, Phase II or ECCO2.. ECCO2 uses the MIT general circulation model (MITgcm) to synthesize satellite and in-situ data of the global ocean and sea-ice at resolutions that begin to resolve ocean eddies and other narrow current systems, which transport heat and carbon in the oceans. The ECCO2 model simulates ocean flows at all depths, but only surface flows are used in this visualization. Called forams for short. climate proxy: something that tells us what the climate was like in the past, such as data from the thickness of tree rings, the composition of gases trapped in ancient ice, historical human records of annual bloom times (eg the long-recorded bloom dates of cherry trees in Kyoto, Japan), or the ratios of certain stable isotopes found in shells, corals, or other biogenic substances oxygen-18: a stable isotope of oxygen that contains 8 protons and 10 neutrons, rather than the 8 protons and 8 neutrons of "regular" oxygen (oxygen-16). The ratio of oxygen-18 to oxygen-16 in seawater (and sea shells) can be used as a proxy for the global average temperature ice sheet: a permanent layer of ice covering land, as found in polar regions (and as distinguished from sea ice, like the stuff that floats at the north pole in the Arctic ocean). Combined, the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets contain more than 99% of the total freshwater ice on Earth. ___________________________________________ If you liked this week’s video, we think you might also like: The Tiniest Fossils by the AMNH https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLSa8cGJixQ Orbulina feeding on Artemia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYQNt52tiVU Mysterious Web Masters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0WbN34Mh7k ___________________________________________ Credits (and Twitter handles): Script Writer: Emily Elert (@eelert) Script Editor: Kate Yoshida (@KateYoshida) Video Illustrator: Ever Salazar (@eversalazar) Video Director: Emily Elert (@eelert) Video Narrator: Emily Elert (@eelert) With Contributions From: Henry Reich, Alex Reich, Peter Reich, David Goldenberg Music by: Nathaniel Schroeder: http://www.soundcloud.com/drschroeder Image credits: Cribrohantkenina inflata - Paul Pearson https://museum.wales/articles/2007-08-03/Up-close-with-nature/ Elphidium macellum, Bulimina and Calcarina hispida by foraminifera.eu http://www.foraminifera.eu/ Globigerina - Hannes Grobe http://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/our-work/biodiversity/planktonic-forminera.html _________________________________________ Like our videos? Dissolve sugar and allow to boil. Stir the pot occasionally (you will want to stir by circling the pot rather than using a spoon. It is incredibly hard to wash dried toffee off of a spoon, believe me!) Sit and stare at your sugar for 4 to 5 minutes until it turns a golden colour, stirring the pot occasionally. (I mean it! Sit and stare :) she turns ugly quickly if you're not too careful). Once golden, remove from heat and allow to settle for half a minute or so. Pour over aluminium foil that has been sprayed lightly with vegetable oil. I let mine sit there for about 2 minutes before I started to pick them off and shape them. Be weary of how hot they may be though! Use gloves if you have to in order to protect yourself from the heat. Thank you guys for watching! I actually had a dream that I made this cake last night, and when I woke up I was on a mission to get it done today haha. Success :) and finally a little something different and fresh to what I normally make. Thanks again for tuning in! 11 Places That Might Disappear Soon

10:29
Whether it’s huge metropolitan cities with millions of people or famous landmarks we can’t imagine being without, here places that might disappear soon. Subscribe to American Eye! 6. Everglades The everglades are slowly beginning to vanish due to the pollution of Lake Okeechobee so you might have to visit this one while you still can! This is the only UNESCO world heritage site in the US that made it to the endangered list along with 53 other locations from other nations. The everglades in Florida takes up a massive 2,357 square miles in central Florida but that number could be a lot lower very soon.. The swampy terrain and its animals are underthreat from pollution because of the phosphorus that was extensively used in agriculture in florida. Most people come here to get an upclose look at the alligators that call this place home! However a lot of people probably got surprised if they came across the panthers that live here as well! Lake Okeechobee is not in the best condition and if pollution continues to affect this fragile, swampy ecosystem, there might be any gators left to visit. 5. Coral Reefs Beautiful coral reefs may unfortunately become a thing of the past especially the great barrier reef in Australia. Since coral appears to have a limited ability to adapt with CO2 levels this high and an increase in ocean temperature, their destruction seems inevitable. It appears that the only way they will survive is citizens and lawmakers come together in order to preserve them. The stress brought upon the coral from the warmer temperatures has led to what’s known as coral bleaching, causing them to turn more white. This then makes them weaker and unable to fight off disease. Many species of fish depend on these reefs as sources of food and places to hide from enemies, making it a place where vast biodiverse ecosystems call home. Australia’s great barrier reef the northern part is already severely bleached and at least 60 percent of it has been effected. 4.The City of Timbuktu Located on the southern edge of the Sahara in the country of Mali, is where you’ll find the historical city of Timbuktu which is basically turning into dust. It’s used in expressions, describing a really far away place but it does actually exist and is under threat of disappearing due to drought! Between the 12th and 14 century, this city thrived and was extremely wealthy from trading salt and ivory. It became possibly the most important medieval city in continent of Africa. The historical importance is undeniable but the fertile land that allowed for it to thrive is turning into dry desert which makes it nearly impossible to grow food. Farmers are slaughtering their camels for food since there is no longer grass to feed their cattle. The difficult task of living on land which is going through the process of desertification could prove to be too much and timbuktu could turn into a ghost town, with no one to repair it. 3. Venice Venice is a remarkable city in Northeastern italy where the visitors can see what life was like during the renaissance. Many remarkable monuments have been constructed here and this city showcases some of most unique feats of architecture and artwork. However it doesn’t appear as though this city was meant to last forever, because it is also sinking! Situated in the adriatic sea, it consists of hundreds of tiny little islands. You won’t find any roads here, just canals and those canals do flood occasionally mostly from high tides! The tidal floods seem to be causing more and more destruction of the city The soil in which the city was built isn’t very firm and it seems to be a question of when rather than if it’s going to happen. Italian officials are doing all they can do but it just appears to be a lost cause. 2. The Dead Sea The dead sea makes up part of the border between Israel and Jordan and has quite a few unique properties to it. Could one of the world’s saltiest lakes start drying up finally? The dead sea has the lowest elevation on earth and even though nothing can survive living in this lake, it’s still quite a unique place that many people enjoy visiting. It’s looking like this sea might be dead and it’s losing 2 billion gallons of water each year. A large scale mining operation appears to be the source of the problem as well as water diversions from the Jordan River. As a result of its diminishing size, large sink holes seem to be forming along the coast which has made tourism an issue. There is a plan in effect to try to save the lake which require building a series of pipelines and canals to transport water to it. This would require cooperation between israel and it’s neighboring countries which we all know could be a little difficult. New York City The great city of Atlantis was rumored to once exist and is now completely under the water somewhere out there. Great Egyptian cities have been discovered underwater after being victims of land

Sailors Notice A Strange Animal Stranded On Ice Miles Out To Sea And Take The Only Humane Action

Crab fishing is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Skilled crewmen battle frigid temperatures and rough seas all so we can enjoy those tasty crustaceans when we go out to eat at a fancy seafood buffet. Fisherman literally put their lives on the line for our appetites. When crab fishermen set sail, they expect to encounter plenty of different sea creatures in their quest for crabs. However, as one Canadian fishing crew found out, sometimes an average day on the job can turn out to be anything but normal. Mallory Harrigan and her boyfriend Cliff Russell, two crab fishermen from Labrador, Canada, woke up early one morning to set sail from William’s Harbour to go crabbing as they often did. On this particular day, however, they were going to encounter something that was unlike anything they’ve ever seen… ►For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] ********************** ►Support our channel PATREON: https://goo.gl/HJbzyf ********************** Our Social Media: ►LIVE CHAT 24/7 : https://goo.gl/iezQKY ►Website : http://www.nollygrio.com/ ►Facebook : https://goo.gl/6tZAV8 ►Twitter : https://goo.gl/iEnbXy ►Instagram : https://goo.gl/gDuPqy ********************** Video Credits: ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com ►https://soundcloud.com/day7official ►https://www.facebook.com/Day7Chill/ ►https://twitter.com/Day7Chill #nollygrio

Local Warming! alarming rise in ocean temperatures confirmed by NOAA

02:49
The heating up that is taking place is MASSIVE. Link for the seawater temperatures: http://www.knmi.nl/datacentrum/satellite_earth_observations/NOAA/ (archives go back till 1995). Beam activity and sudden temperature rises may be related as well as beam activity and unexplainable fires. It seems highly likely to me: http://www.youtube.com/user/N3anderthaler#grid/user/7E379B4174C2882D Note the circle in the first video, then the ones in the second video (burned peat) plus the fire tornado you clearly see after 32 seconds. This rare occurance indicates an electric discharge. In the last video you can see how these fires start in different places -always at the same time-. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTAow64YC6k&feature=BFp&list=WL1F4E804C9C992BFE&index=9 Are these beams at the same time the temperature rise occurred related: (??) Ocean heating USA: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/ "Ultra-fast pulses from a powerful laser can create droplets of water out of thin air, according to a new study. With the right conditions and large enough droplets, the researchers say, the technique could be used to make rain on demand. Rain forms when water condenses around tiny particles in the atmosphere. Most of the time, dust or pollen do the job, but humans have long attempted to speed the process by seeding clouds with chemicals like silver iodide. Those chemicals provide the so-called "condensation nuclei" that trigger the consolidation of water into raindrops. Unfortunately, such methods are difficult and could have environmental side effects, said Jérôme Kasparian, an optical physicist at the University of Geneva, Switzerland who was on the team that demonstrated the laser-triggered condensation. The study was published online May 2 [2010] in the journal Nature Photonics. "The potential advantage of laser is that it can work continuously," Kasparian said. If lasers can trigger rain on a large scale, he said, it would also be more efficient and cheaper than spraying silver iodide out of airplanes or shooting it into the sky from rockets. Researches have long known that short, strong laser pulses can ionize air molecules, creating pathways of ionized gas called plasma channels. Kasparian and his team wanted to find out whether those plasma channels could be of use to wannabe rainmakers. "Our idea is to use the laser to ionize the air, and the ions that are produced can then serve as the condensation nuclei," Kasparian said. To test the idea, the researchers first used an atmospheric cloud chamber, a box that enabled them to vary temperature and humidity. After saturating the air in the chamber, the team flipped on a several-terawatt laser (one terawatt is a trillion watts) and watched with surprise as visible water droplets formed. Three seconds after the laser pulsed, the droplets swelled to diameters of 80 micrometers, smaller than a raindrop but larger than expected. 🌏 Earthrise - Cryocoral Conservation

11:25
Coral reefs are the most biologically diverse marine habitats in the world. As well as providing vital protection against storm damage and coastal erosion, millions of people rely on reefs for food. Yet years of unsustainable fishing practices, pollution and rising sea temperatures means that up to one-fifth of all coral reefs around the world have already been destroyed. So the battle is on to safeguard their future. Dr Mary Hagedorn of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute has been on a global mission to create a seed bank to protect the world's highly-threatened coral biodiversity. Using technology and techniques similar to those used in human sperm banks, Hagedorn and her colleagues were the first on the planet to cryogenically freeze the sperm and stem cells of coral. Russell Beard travels to Oahu, Hawaii, to join Dr Hagedorn's team on a spawn gathering trip to gather and freeze endangered coral sperm and cells for future use.

Smyths Toys - Aqua Dragons Sea Friends Octopus Garden

00:25
Aqua Dragons are real live aquatic creatures that you can hatch and grow at home. The Sea Friends Octopus Garden is a full colour supersized tank and has twice as many eggs as our usual Aqua Dragons items, for double the hatching fun. With built in bubble pump to oxygenate the water, eggs, food and spoon. Just follow the full instructions, add water and they miraculously hatch within just 2-3 days. Initially your hatchlings will be microscopic but within 5-7 days you should be able to see them. They are fascinating to watch as they swim and play graciously in their aquatic underwater world. The Aqua Dragons Sea Friends Octopus Garden includes an invite to download the free Aqua Dragons Investigator App with augmented reality, a game and educational content. AQUA DRAGONS FAQ 1. Are they really alive? Yes, the Artemia salina (which is the scientific name for what we call Aqua Dragons) are live organisms and they need you to care for them. 2. What temperature should the water be? The ideal water temperature range for hatching is 21 to 27ºC. It is important that the water is at this temperature in order for your Aqua Dragons to hatch and during the first delicate week of life. 3. How many Aqua Dragons should hatch? A difficult question; it depends on the water, the temperature, the number of microscopic eggs that were in the packet, so could be between 10 and 50. 4. Do I have to change the water? No, the water has a special ph and salinity level that is established by the contents of the eggs sachet. So don’t change the water! However the water does evaporate so you can fill up, slowly using room temperature bottled spring water in small quantities each time. Do not use tap water. 5. How do I oxygenate the water? We recommend that you shake the water before adding the eggs so that it is oxygenated well from the start then begin using the pipette to oxygenate the water. Squeeze and release the pipette to let air into the chamber. Put the pipette tip in the water and then squeeze again to blow the stored air into the water. Repeat this for 30 seconds every few days. 6. How often should I feed my Aqua Dragons? The amount you feed should correspond to the number of Aqua Dragons you hatch. If you have only a few Aqua Dragons, feed every 4-5 days. If you have a large hatch of 20+ Aqua Dragons feed every other day. 7. Do Aqua Dragons like sunlight? Yes they love it, just make sure you don’t leave them in the direct sun where the water would overheat! 8. Do Aqua Dragons bite? No... actually they don’t have a mouth; they eat through their wings which work like gills. 9. How long do Aqua Dragons live? Each Aqua Dragon can reach adult hood at one month and can live for up to 90 days, however if you care for them well you may see that they reproduce so you could have life in the tank for much longer. 10. How big do Aqua Dragons grow? Up to 20mm but this may take up to two months. 11. What do I do if one of the dragons dies? When an Aqua Dragon dies it will float down to the bottom of your habitat and slowly biodegrade. In effect they become part of the habitat so it is not necessary to remove them. 12. Initially I had lots of hatchlings but now I am left with just a few adults? Not all the Aqua Dragons that hatch will survive into adulthood, otherwise we´d be overrun! It´s normal and natural for many to hatch and for only some to make it through to adulthood. 13. The water is dirty, what do I do? This is normally due to over- feeding.
