Places to see in ( Bigbury on Sea - UK ) Bigbury-on-Sea is a village in the South Hams district on the south coast of Devon, England. It is part of the civil parish of Bigbury which is centred on a small village of that name about a mile inland. Bigbury-on-Sea village is on the coast above the largest sandy beach in South Devon facing south to Bigbury Bay. The tidal island of Burgh Island lies about 270 yards (250 metres) offshore. At the start of the 20th century Bigbury-on-Sea consisted of a few fishermen's cottages with fish cellars. The village grew with the growth in holidaymaking and now has a beach cafe, and by the mainland side of causeway is the Burgh Island Causeway resort built in 1998 replacing the burnt out fishermen's cottages after a controversial planning application. The resort is made up of privately owned and holiday let flats and a private leisure club with indoor pool and gym. The Devon Coastal Path runs behind the resort. The large sandy beach is very popular for wave and wind based water sports, but it lost its Blue Flag beach status in 2012 due to water quality issues. There are two large car parks with easy access to the beaches and the walk across the sand bar to Burgh Island with its Art Deco Hotel and Pilchard Inn. When the tide covers the sand bar access is by the sea tractor. Places to see in ( Leysdown on Sea - UK )

Places to see in ( Leysdown on Sea - UK ) Leysdown-on-Sea is a coastal village on the east side of the Isle of Sheppey in the Borough of Swale in Kent, England. The civil parish is Leysdown and includes the settlements of Bay View, Shellness and Harty. It is noted in the Domesday Book as being called Legesdun and the name is thought to be derived from the Saxon words "Leswe" (pasture) and "Dun" (hill). A very small hamlet up to late Victorian times, it was developed a little after the arrival of the Sheppey Light Railway in 1903, though grand plans for the establishment of a large resort with hotels never materialised. The railway was closed in the 1950s. On 2 May 1909, John Moore-Brabazon became the first resident British citizen to make a recognised powered heavier-than-air flight in the UK flying from The Aero Club's ground at Leysdown in his Voisin biplane Bird of Passage. Leysdown is located a mile to the SSE of Warden and three miles to the ESE of Eastchurch. To the SSE lies the hamlet of Shellness and to the southwest is an area of marshland known as the Leysdown marshes. The island is located partly in The Swale and partly in the North Sea with a shingle beach and mudflats extending out to sea. It is recommended in the 2009 Good Beach Guide. Leysdown is well known for its family amusement arcades adjacent to the sea. There are 6 arcades, each with its own 18-only section with high jackpots. Some arcades give tickets from their many machines which can be exchanged for small trinkets, toys and other prizes. The Spinney is an area of open space in the middle of Leysdown, with children's play area and benches. It takes its name from the woodland that was present there until the 1960s. Leysdown is also known for one of the UK's few official naturist beaches, sited beyond the town along the un-made road. The B2231 is the only road into Leysdown, with regular bus services from Arriva providing public transport links to the rest of the Island and the mainland. There was formerly a bus station in Leysdown but it was demolished in the early 1990s. The Sheppey Light Railway formerly provided a rail link to the rest of the Island but was dismantled in the 1950s. Places to see in ( Burnham On Sea - UK )

Places to see in ( Burnham On Sea - UK ) Burnham-on-Sea is a town in Somerset, England, at the mouth of the River Parrett and Bridgwater Bay. Burnham was a small fishing village until the late 18th century, when it began to grow because of its popularity as a seaside resort. It forms part of the parish of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge and shares a town council with its neighbouring market town of Highbridge. The position of the town on the edge of the Somerset Levels and moors where they meet the Bristol Channel, has resulted in a history dominated by land reclamation and sea defences since Roman times. Burnham was seriously affected by the Bristol Channel floods of 1607, with the present curved concrete wall being completed in 1988. There have been many shipwrecks on the Gore Sands, which lie just offshore and can be exposed at low tides. Lighthouses are hence prominent landmarks in the town, with the original lighthouse known as the Round Tower built to replace the light on the top of the 14th century tower of St Andrews Church. The 110-foot (34-metre) pillar or High Lighthouse and the low wooden pile lighthouse or Lighthouse on legs on the beach were built to replace it. The town's first lifeboat was provided in 1836 by the Corporation of Bridgwater. A stone pier was built in 1858 by the Somerset Central Railway. Soon afterwards, in 1860, a steamer service to Wales was inaugurated, but it was never a commercial success, and ended in 1888. Burnham-on-Sea railway station was the terminus of the Burnham branch of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. It opened in 1858, closed to scheduled passenger traffic in 1951, and stopped being used for excursions in 1962. The former Great Western Railway station is now known as Highbridge and Burnham. A second pier, built of concrete between 1911 and 1914, is claimed to be the shortest pier in Britain. Burnham-on-Sea is notable for its beach and mudflats, the danger they pose to individuals and shipping, and the efforts to which locals have gone in defending their town and preventing loss of life. Burnham is close to the estuary of the River Parrett where it flows into the Bristol Channel, which has the second highest tidal range in the world. The original lighthouse, known as the Round Tower, was built after the local vicar, either John Goulden in 1764 or Walter Harris in 1799, raised a subscription amongst the local population to replace the light on the top of St Andrews Church tower. The four-storey Round Tower was built next to the church. A 900 ft (270 m) stone pier was erected in 1858 by the Somerset Central Railway. Soon afterwards, in 1860, a steamer service to Wales was inaugurated, but it was never a commercial success, and ended in 1888. The pier retains its railway lines under a surface coating of concrete. Burnham-on-Sea railway station was the terminus of the Burnham branch of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway, but the tracks continued onto the jetty, where ferry services to South Wales could be boarded. The station opened in 1858 as Burnham, and was renamed Burnham-on-Sea in 1920. It closed to scheduled passenger traffic in 1951 and stopped being used for excursions in 1962. Places to see in ( Saltburn-by-the-Sea - UK )

Places to see in ( Saltburn-by-the-Sea - UK ) Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a seaside resort in North Yorkshire, England. The local council, a unitary authority, is Redcar and Cleveland. Historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Saltburn-by-the-Sea is around 12 miles (19 km) east of Middlesbrough, and the ward of Saltburn. The development of Middlesbrough and Saltburn was driven by the discovery of iron stone in the Cleveland Hills, the monies of the Pease family of Darlington, and the development of two railways to transport the minerals. Old Saltburn is the original settlement, located in the Saltburn Gill. Records are scarce on its origins, but it was a centre for smugglers, and publican John Andrew is referred to as 'king of smugglers'. The Redcar to Saltburn Railway opened in 1861 as an extension of the Middlesbrough to Redcar Railway of 1846. The line was extended to Whitby as part of the Whitby Redcar and Middlesbrough Union Railway. The coastline at Saltburn lies practically east-west, and along much of it runs Marine Parade. To the east of the town is the imposing Hunt Cliff, topped by Warsett Hill at 166 metres (545 ft). Skelton Beck runs through the wooded Valley Gardens in Saltburn, then alongside Saltburn Miniature Railway before being joined by Saltburn Gill going under the C174 road bridge and entering the North Sea across the sandy beach. The A174 road number is now used for the Skelton/Brotton Bypass. A forest walk in the Valley Gardens gives access to the Italian Gardens and leads on to the railway viaduct. On the shore of Old Saltburn stands the Ship Inn, which dates to the 17th Century. In the town there are plenty of Victorian buildings. There is also a thriving local theatre, The 53 Society, and a public library. The Saltburn Cliff Lift is one of the world's oldest water-powered funiculars—the oldest being the Bom Jesus funicular in Braga, Portugal. After the opening of Saltburn Pier in 1869, it was concluded that the steep cliff walk was deterring people from walking from the town to the pier. The Saltburn tramway, as it is also known, was developed by Sir Richard Tangye's company, whose chief engineer was George Croydon Marks. The cliff tramway opened a year later and provided transport between the pier and the town. Saltburn's attractions include a Grade II* renovated pier, the only pleasure pier on the whole of Northeast England and Yorkshire coast. The Saltburn Miniature Railway is a 15 in (381 mm) gauge railway that runs south from Cat Nab Station close to the beach, for about ½ mile inland to Forest Halt, where there is a woodland walk and the Italian Gardens. The railway station is at the end of the line from Middlesbrough and Darlington. Beyond Saltburn a mineral goods line continues across Saltburn Viaduct and the edge of Hunt Cliff to the potash mine at nearby Boulby. Unbelievable Places That Really Exist

07:53
From the unreal Yoro Park in Japan to the Bergpark Wilhelmshohe in Germany, here are Unbelievable Places That Really Exist. Learn about the BIGGEST of everything Monday, Wednesday, and Friday just subscribe! # 8 Yoro Park The town of Yoro located in the Gifu prefecture of Japan is relatively small and unremarkable with a population of just 33,000. However, many people are attracted to this place because of the Yoro Park Site of Reversible Destiny. It is a strange “theme park” that doesn’t have the roller coasters or rides that most theme parks offer. Instead, it boasts surreal landscaping, perfectly round domes covered in grass, and architecture that will make you scratch your head. It was originally designed to incorporate the 100 waterfalls in the area into a unified place. # 7 Beppu, Japan The Japanese island of Kyushu is home to many things, but is also known to be a very active hotbed of geothermal activity. Hot springs have bubbled up over the city of Beppu and are so hot they create huge steam clouds that rise above the rooftops, making it look like the entire city is on fire. These springs are colored a deep blue or deep orange but are too hot to bathe in, ranging in temperature from 50 to 99.5 degrees Celsius. This hot water is piped through the city to be used in homes, restaurants, and even in places where it is cooled down enough to help with physical therapy. # 6 Village of Monsanto Voted the most Portuguese village in Portugal and built to be intertwined with the landscape is the village of Monsanto. Looking at pictures might be shocking because it looks as if the village was crushed by a landslide. The village was built between, underneath, and around these boulders which have been there for as long as the village has. Monsanto was built in the 12th century and sits on top of a mountain, giving a spectacular view of the Italian countryside. # 5 Marble Caves of Chile Chico This stark rock shape is located in a peninsula bordering Lake General Carrera along the Chile-Argentina border. It’s one of the marble caves of Chile Chico, a giant outcropping of solid marble that has been slowly carved by water pushing up against it. The marble caves are very far removed from any established paved roads and require a 30 minute guided boat ride to get to. The parts that have been polished by the water reveal a beautiful pearly, swirling pattern hidden inside the rock. # 4 The Natural Bridge Most bridges are man-made marvels, but this one was made completely by Mother Nature. It was carved by Cedar Creek which flowed through it over the course of thousands of years. It’s a 65 meter high bridge that is sacred to the Monacan tribe and was later surveyed by American colonists. One of these colonists was George Washington who allegedly carved his initials into the rock. # 3 The Blue Forest The Hallerbos, or Blue Forest, is a dream-like forest in Belgium. Most times of the year it’s beautiful, but unremarkable as far as forests go. However, every spring, the forest takes on a whole new quality that makes it seem straight out of a dream. The forest floor blooms with blue bell flowers, completely saturating the place with the densest meadow of bluebells in all of Europe. # 2 Atlantic Ocean Road We’ve all heard of taking the “scenic route”, but the Atlantic Ocean Road takes that to the next level. This winding road curves over and around the brutal Norwegian Sea. The road connects several tiny islands together to unify the country, and to do this it crosses the beautiful scenery of the Norwegian coasts. Despite several arched bridges and elevated roads, the water will still occasionally crash over the road during storms. If you are lucky and brave enough to cross this road, you will be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views in the world. # 1 Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe This image has been circulating on the internet for at least four years now and is frequently captioned as being somewhere near Poland or Germany. While this actual image is just a photo mockup, there is a similar waterfall castle that actually exists in Kassel Germany. The Bergpark Wilhelmshohe is an old water park that was first built in 1696. It’s equipped to handle 92,000 gallons that flow through the three-century-old pneumatic devices. The water most notable flows down a 350-meter long cascade/slide that makes it look like a castle sitting directly on top of a water park. You can still visit the Bergpark Wilhelmshohe despite its age as it was designated a UNESCO world heritage spot in 2013.

It lies on the north side of the Thames Estuary, 40 miles (64 km) east of central London. It is bordered to the north by Rochford and to the west by Castle Point. It is home to the longest leisure pier in the world, Southend Pier.[2] London Southend Airport is located 1.5 NM (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) north of the town centre. Southend-on-Sea originally consisted of a few poor fishermen's huts and farms at the southern end of the village of Prittlewell. In the 1790s, the first buildings around what was to become the High Street of Southend were completed. In the 19th century, Southend's status of a seaside resort grew after a visit from Princess Caroline of Brunswick, and Southend Pier was constructed. From the 1960s onwards, the town declined as a holiday destination, Southend redeveloped itself as the home of the Access credit card, due to it having one of the UK's first electronic telephone exchanges. After the 1960s, much of the town centre was developed for commerce and retail, and many original structures were lost to redevelopment. Liverpool Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

07:57
Get to know Liverpool, England, where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. This charming city is filled with maritime history, Beatlemania, and places of worship. Begin your English adventures at the Three Graces, which include the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building, and Port of Liverpool Building. These iconic and architecturally magnificent structures sit in Pier Head, overlooking the River Mersey. View the buildings in all their glory at the nearby Museum of Liverpool. Then head to U-Boat Story to explore a previously sunken German submarine, followed by a trip to the Merseyside Maritime Museum, where you’ll learn boatloads of information about ships of the past, from the Titanic to the Lusitania. As long as you’re in Liverpool, explore the fabulous four’s old stomping grounds. The Beatles played more than 300 gigs at Cavern Club, while the Casbah Coffee Club is where Beatlemania took off. To learn more about the epic band, roam around the memorabilia exhibits at The Beatles Story, a museum where you can marvel at John Lennon’s glasses and George Harrison’s first guitar. What’s more, you can visit the grave of Eleanor Rigby—who inspired the famous song—along with the bandstand that prompted the “Sergeant Peppers” album. Still looking for more adventures? Dabble in the city’s religious side and check out the Anglican Cathedral. It was engineered by a 22-year-old architecture student who won a design contest. Afterwards, visit the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, known as “Paddy’s Wigwam,” which exudes the free spirt and charm of the 1960s. Both of these structures boast magnificent designs and are considered architectural splendors. There’s much more to Liverpool, though. Its football fans are die-hard, while the estates, such as Sudley House and Croxteth Hall, are historical treasures. However you decide to spend your adventures in this English town, check out our Liverpool travel guide for more tips and recommendations. http://www.expedia.com/Liverpool.d6046241.Destination-Travel-Guides -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on social media: Twitter: https://twitter.com/Expedia Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/expedia Instagram: http://instagram.com/expedia Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/Expedia/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Expedia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow us on our travel blog, Viewfinder: http://viewfinder.expedia.com/

UK weather: Sea walls breached in Ilfracombe

00:42
Sea walls are breached in Ilfracombe, north Devon, as south-west England, Wales and Scotland experience more floods, high tides and strong winds Heavy rain, strong winds and high tides are causing widespread flooding across North Devon this morning. Exceptional weather conditions combined with high tides led to 16 of the most serious severe flood warnings, where there is a "danger to life", being issued across across North Devon, the South West, Gloucestershire and Wales at 10am while Scotland and Northern Ireland are also on flood alert. The storms have heaped more midwinter misery on travellers with road journeys and rail services disrupted. Many major roads were flooded, while trains to and from Gatwick Airport in West Sussex were among those affected by storm-related problems. Forecasters have warned there would be no respite from the bad weather and floods this weekend as high tides, strong winds and heavy rain continue. 28 STRANGE Sights on Google Earth

10:01
Every year we come across bizarre and strange sightings that have been picked up by the Google camera, and today we have a look at some of the stranger sights spotted by their satellites. Learn about the BIGGEST of everything Monday, Wednesday, and Friday just subscribe! 13 - Refreshes like nothing on earth… This giant Coca-Cola sign is visible from the air and was captured by Google earth in Chile. Sometimes referred to as maptervising, this giant logo was put in place to celebrate their 100th Anniversary. Whether this was the first time maptervising was used, I’m not sure – but we know of several companies who use giant adverts to advertise their products. The unique fact about this one though, is the sign is made from 70,000 empty Coke bottles. 12 - Free Hand… It looks like an intriguing piece of artwork, but it’s actually an aerial shot taken by Google Earth cameras. This one is located in the middle of the desert in China. Of course, speculations ran high as to what it could possible be. Some suggested underground testing facilities, while others thought it could be military runways. The truth wasn’t quite as exciting, but not bad anyway… they are roads used for test drills. 11 - Connect the dots… These are oil fields with connecting roads located in Rio Negro in Argentina. This is a spectacular image which we can thank Google Earth for! 10 - The dark knight rises… Over in Okinawa in Japan they have a very special sight that can only be viewed from above. It’s the Batman symbol, and you’ll have to fly over the roof top of the Air Force’s 44th Fighter Squadron. It’s not new though, and has been around since the 80’s… it’s only come to light recently thanks to Google Earth. 9 - Look closely… You’ll have to stretch your imagination for this one. A guy in Sweden truly believes that this obscure image from Google Earth is the real-life Nessie. 8 - Crawl back into your shell… You’ve probably heard of the massive Japanese Spider Crab, they’re literally enormous but they’re nowhere near the size of this crab that was spotted on Google earth. It’s earned the nickname Crabzilla, and is roughly 50-feet wise. It was spotted in Kent Harbour in the UK. Legit or not, I’ll let you decide. 7 - Stranger Things… The second season of Stranger Things sees an underground complex network of roots emerge. When I see this image that was captured by Google Earth, I think of that – and it leaves me feeling a little unsettled. 6 - All ears… We head to Alberta in Canada and meet the Badlands Guardian. This geological marvel looks like a man with a headdress wearing an earphone. It’s obviously not that, but rather a road and an oil well that have been installed on the site. If you go and view this image on Google Earth, and you scroll further to the left, you’ll spot another face which looks like someone is yawning and waking up from a deep sleep. 5 - Shrouded in mystery… Could this possibly be the remains of a pyramid that has not been excavated yet? Google Earth captured this image somewhere across Egypt, and reports suggest that due to the current economic situation in Egypt, they’ve limited the number of sites being excavated and researched. Others who have spotted this image believe it to just be a natural part of the landscape. I’m leaning towards pyramid, how about you? 4 - Blast from the past… In more ways than one! This is the world’s best-preserved meteorite on earth and it’s located a few minutes from Interstate 40 and Route 66. It's’ said an asteroid hit earth at 26,000 miles per hour 50,000 years ago and those are the remains! The crater is roughly 1 mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and 550ft deep. You’re welcome to go and visit the site yourself! Its open to tourists! 3 - Hypnotising… These fields captured by Google Earth are seriously hypnotising, and remind me of a patchwork quilt. 2 - You decide… Sand banks? Aliens? Wake of water? Deep sea creature? No one seems to have legitimate answers, so if you can shed some light on that bizarre image captured on Google Earth, please share it with us down below!

Tombstoning, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Podcast, UK

03:27
Part of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency monthly podcast series. 'Tombstoning' has claimed the lives of people and seriously injured others. The craze has been fuelled by internet video clips, but they don't show the other side of the story. Several years ago when Nick Biddlecombe was just seventeen, everything suddenly went horribly wrong when he was injured because he just dived into the sea without knowing what was beneath him. He talks to BBC Radio One Newsbeat's Andy West. About us: Focus are a UK based multimedia communications agency specialising in audio and video. We help businesses use video and audio to maximise their sales impact and keep ahead of their competitors. We have a fully equipped ISDN studio and green screen facilities in Southampton, Hampshire. See our portfolio for examples of web video for business, podcasts and webinars produced for health and safety, training and employee communications, product launches, tourism, science, technology, aerial and the maritime sectors. Under The Sea Globe Nail Design Using Bubble Rose Technique

20:51
Hey, everybody. In today's video, we are going to do something a little different. We are going to experiment with the new bubble flower craze that everyone's going on about, but ours is gonna be different and it's gonna have a beach theme. So, the first thing I'm gonna do is apply four wonderful colours to my tip. We have Snow White, Looking Glass, The Doctor and Abyss to create a sea effect on the nail. I'm gonna work with the darkest and then move my way up to the lightest. After creating the waves, we are going to add white to give it a seafoam effect and when we've fined with the waves we are going to use the colour Butterscotch to create a sand effect at the top of the nail and then I'm gonna sprinkle a little bit of the clear acrylic powder to create the sand texture. There you go, guys. I hope you enjoyed this video if you did please remember to subscribe, like it and share it around. I will see you in the next video! Full Time Motorhome by The Sea at Castillo de Baños

09:02
The Happy Travellers move pitches and get really close to the mediteranian sea. Living in a Motorhome Fulltime, Steve, Wendy, and Pippin enjoy travelling around the UK and soon to be Europe when time allows. We took a year off and travelled around the UK seeing places that we had no idea existed until we stumbled upon them. Our first adventures took shape in a 10 year old Caravan; a Coachman Pastiche 540/4 which we towed behind a trusty Audi Allroad 3.0TDI Quattro. A beautiful combination of tow car and living space. We purchased the car in January 2016 and the Caravan in March 2016 and set off on a journey to Essex in memory of Wendy’s mum who’d passed away in January 2016. In July 2017 we decided that we’d buy a new motorhome and so we now travel around in a Hymer T678CL Golden Limited Motorhome. We work at a caravan part in the North West of England part time and so get at least 4 days a week when we can be free to travel. This channel is all about our journey and our lives as Fulltime Motorhome Dwellers.
