Ronn Torossian on WNBC discussing what a logo effectively communicates about a brand. The strong importance branding and a recognizable logo play in the marketplace is as important as ever. http://www.5wpr.com/new/branding-and-public-relations/ http://www.5wpr.com/ Video Transcription: what do you think that is? does it communicate something to you? It's the new logo for the new world trade center that's part of the multimillion-dollar branding campaign. it may look like just fiverectangles. but it's packed with symbolism. roseanne colletti takes a look. reporter: the new logo is the face of the port authority's $57 million rebranding campaign for the 16-acre world trade center site. It's a lot of money. reporter: the abstract image of five vertical bars will appear on all world trade signs, building entrances, uniforms and marketing materials. google's famous rainbow came from a free graphics program. nike nike's from a design student for $35. pepsi spent a million to redesign its identifying globe. It's really in the grand scheme of things not that much. reporter: the firm that created the fedex look, one for bp and for the 9/11 memorial gave birth to the new image, a challenge under any circumstances, according to douglas, a graphic designer himself. does the stylized "w" show two reflecting pools and two beams of light? it makes what is not there as important as what is. what do you see? Looks like there are three towers and then two are down and three are up. That's not what i was expecting. Looks like a bunch of dominos about to fall on each other. Trying to move on, i guess. reporter: roseanne colletti, news 4 new york. while talking about tax dollars, your tax dollars are. It is a primary task of the corporate communications department to maintain and build this identity to accord with and facilitate business objectives. It is typically visually manifested by way of branding and the use of trademarks. But also includes things like product design, advertising, public relations and the like. In general, this amounts to a corporate title, logo (logotype and/or logogram) and supporting devices commonly assembled within a set of guidelines. These guidelines govern how the identity is applied and would include approved colour palettes, typefaces, page layouts and other such... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackintosh The Mackintosh or Macintosh (abbreviated as mac or mack) is a form of waterproof raincoat, first sold in 1824, made out of rubberised fabric. The Mackintosh is named after its Scottish inventor Charles Macintosh, though many writers add a letter k (this variant spelling "Mackintosh" is now standard). Although the Mackintosh style of coat has become generic, a genuine Mackintosh coat should be made from rubberised or rubber laminated material... History Charles Macintosh patented his invention for waterproof cloth in 1823 and the first Mackintosh coats were made in the family's textile factory, Charles Macintosh and Co. of Glasgow. In 1830 the company merged with the clothing company of Thomas Hancock in Manchester. Hancock had also been experimenting with rubber coated fabrics since 1819. Production of rubberised coats soon spread all over the UK. Every kind of coat was produced with rubberized material including riding coats and coats supplied to the British Army, British Railways and UK police forces. Early coats had problems with smell, stiffness, and a tendency to melt in hot weather, but Hancock further improved their waterproof fabrics, patenting a method for vulcanising rubber in 1843 which solved many of the problems. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the company continued to make waterproof clothing. In 1925 the company was taken over by Dunlop Rubber. Revival In the mid 1990s the Mackintosh brand owner, Traditional Weatherwear, was on the verge of closing its factory in Cumbernauld near Glasgow. Around the turn of the 21st century, senior staff members acquired the company and established the traditional rubberised Mackintosh coat as an upmarket brand in its own right. The company collaborated with leading fashion houses such as Gucci, Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Liberty. The coats became particularly popular with Japanese women, and the company won a Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2000 for its success in international trade. In December 2003 the company name was formally changed to Mackintosh. In 2007 Mackintosh was bought by Tokyo firm Yagi Tsusho. With the backing of its parent company Mackintosh has continued to expand its reputation and marketing operations. In January 2011 the company opened its first fashion store in London...

What Creates Brand Trust? │ The Factors Affecting Brand Image

05:34
What creates brand trust? A recent study on factors affecting brand image for young Americans ages 13 to 36 had some interesting findings. (You can read about it here https://www.ypulse.com/post/view/the-10-brands-gen-z-millennials-trust-most). A group of 27,000 young people were shown a list of over 200 brands and asked which ones they trusted the most. For Generation Z, the top 3 brands were Oreo, Nike, and Hershey’s. For Millennials, it was Nike, Hershey’s, and Amazon. What creates brand trust for them? It’s no surprise that kids like sweet treats, and apparently Millennials do too. Most of those surveyed – 80% – said they felt the most trust and loyalty towards brands that had been in business a long time. Familiarity seemed to be one of the major factors affecting brand image. Nike sponsors practically every sports team out there, so it’s no surprise that it made the top 3, while Amazon dominates the online marketplace. Respondents said that customer service was also very important. It’s a bit disturbing how few of the top brands are known for their corporate values. Only The North Face really makes an ethical stand. Clearly we’re not moving the needle hard enough. Let’s put our trust in companies that deserve it. Before we buy from any organization it’s a good idea to do some homework first. Are there any women on the board? Is the company involved in environmental causes? What about their labor practices? If they use child labor and sweatshops they don’t deserve our customer loyalty. The website www.pursepower.com can help you make the right decisions. There are more factors affecting brand image than cost and marketing. Be clear as a company what you want to be recognized for and make the decisions that get your message out to the right people. Ultimately, what creates brand trust is integrity. Let’s choose brands that support our values.

The importance of building brand equity& reputation

05:29
Never before have companies so feared their customers. It takes only one furious tweet or indignant Facebook post to spark a firestorm that even the most skilled public relations team cannot contain. With consumers becoming increasingly vocal, companies are placing greater emphasis on the customer experience, relying on experts to help them build and protect their reputations and brand equity. Joining CNBC Africa to discuss this further is Debbie Goodman-Bhyat, CEO of Jack Hammer Executive Headhunters.
