Fiat Piston Installation Part 1

15:55
Fiat X19 Piston Installation Part 1 points out key elements when installing the wrist pins and rings. For this build I am using 1500 used piston heads with wrist pins, my original 1300 piston rods and end caps, and chrome rings for a 86.4mm bore. I am not a mechanic, consult your service manual, technicians and qualified YouTube Creators to install your engine parts. I am pointing out key elements, I am not teaching how to install engine components. It is vital that the piston identification numbers on the piston rod and it's end cap end up on the same side of the engine block. To accomplish this, I set up the installation so that the piston rod number would be on the same side as the piston head valve reliefs, or scallops as I call them. The service manual indicates these numbers on the rods should be on the side of the auxiliary shaft on the engine. The Haynes manual does not indicate this. Checked with a mechanic who specializes in these engines and he indicated does not matter which side of engine the rod numbers are on as long as they are all on the same side of engine. Next on the Fiat X19 piston installation part 1 video, I ordered new 86.4mm chrome rings from Midwest-Bayless to fit the new 1500 piston heads. I had to ensure that the shear gaps and end gaps where within tolerances for all rings in all pistons. To keep the rings organized I set up bags labelled for each ring for each piston. I used my dremel to make a ring gaping tool to ensure the ring ends remained parallel when removing ring material. Only the top rings needed to be gaped as they were .010 and needed to be between .012 - .015 Spend the money on piston ring expanding pliers. They are cheap and will prevent breaking the rings which will cost you far more. All parts from midwest_bayless.com Check out all my 1978 FIAT X1/9 restoration videos and like, comment and subscribe. Engine Assembly Crankshaft & Pistons #DarkMatterPikachu #FairmontProject

45:03
Check out Kalvinator Engines: http://www.kalvinatorengines.com After all the preparation of balancing, checking clearances, and painting, it's now time to assemble my engine. In fact, this is the only part of engine assembly we were able to get on camera. Because everything else took so long, we were not able to recored the cylinder head and the rest of the assembly. Still, there's a ton of useful information in this video about bottom end assembly and the types of things you want to consider with a boosted application. As you'll see in the video, you build an engine for boost very differently than you build a naturally aspirated engine. No matter what, you'll walk away with great information form this video and a deeper appreciation for my machine shop, Kalviantor Engines. Thanks to Kevin Frische for his help in this video. Your 2009 Yamaha YFZ450R top end rebuild parts are here: http://bit.ly/yamaha-YFZ450R-top-end-rebuild-parts-list The top end rebuild on our 2009 Yamaha YFZ450R continues here in part two of our three part series. In this video, we start with the top end torn down and now we’re building it back up. John will show you how to position the piston rings correctly and then connecting the piston. Once the piston is in place, we’ll install a new cylinder. Our original part was worn, so a new cylinder seemed like the best option. Then, we’ll work up the motor and install the head. That will include setting the cam timing on our YFX450R and getting the chain tensioner in place. Finally, we’ll bolt on the valve cover and replace the spark plug. How To Check Piston Ring End Gap.MP4

06:50
Piston ring end gap is and important measurement to verify during engine assembly. Do this to ensure that the ring ends won't butt during engine operation and damage the cylinders. Also keeps cylinder pressures more consistent from bore to bore which means better effiiciency and power.

Installing piston rings and a piston into the bore is part of a build playlist to add performance mods to a mini bike engine. Installing piston rings and a performance piston will allow you to have less horsepower robbing drag, and let you reliably rev to very high rpms. These cylinder assemblies are an economical option for your top end rebuild. Cylinder assembly includes a piston, rings, piston pin, circlips and cylinder. Cylinder bore is NiSi coated for long life. These pistons have a thin coat of molybdenum, which helps reduce friction and wear during the initial break in period. Piston rings are made from ductile cast iron, so your chances of breaking them during installation are greatly reduced. Hurricane Engine Rebuild Chapter 8 – Pistons and Cylinders

13:10
I feel like this is one of those jobs where having the special tool is totally optional. As it was, the piston ring compressors I'm using aren't a very good fit for the job, and I'd have been better off using a set with narrower bands so that I could get them around cyls 2&3 That said, there's really nothing wrong with just using your fingers to jam the rings in. If you don't want to spend the hundred bucks or so, that's definitely the next best thing My old shop manager used to call fingers the 'million-dollar tool' For one thing, they do more jobs than any other... ...for another, even if you've got a million bucks, you can't replace one if it goes missing Don't use your hands as a hammer! 5 Things You Should Know When Building a Turbocharged Engine

If you're thinking of building a turbocharged engine, the information in this video will save you a lot of headache and sorrow. It will also save you some money. I spent almost 2 years building my turbo Fairmont and I love the way it turned out. Sometimes though, I wish I had never gone for a turbo. Turbos are great, but they can be a real pain to set up properly. If you do decide that turbo is the way you want to go, I hope this video helps you on that journey. How To Balance an Engines Rotating Assembly #DarkMatterPikachu #FairmontProject

35:07
Check out Kalvinator Engines: http://www.kalvinatorengines.com Extended Version of this video available here: https://www.ericthecarguy.com/exclusive-videos/73-exclusive-videos/1731-how-to-balance-an-engines-rotating-assembly-darkmatterpikachu-fairmontproject-extended-version-exclusive-video For those of you not aware, the engine in my #FairmontProject has a name, #DarkMatterPikachu. Here's how it got that name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euGuucHprZM In this installment of the Engine Build Series of the #FairmontProject, Kevin Frische shows us how to balance a rotating assembly. Some may know this as 'balancing the crankshaft' however, this is something of a misnomer in this case because we also include the flywheel and harmonic balancer. Honestly this is one of my favorite videos in this series as it covers something I've never seen done before. So the next time you're getting an engine build, I'd highly recommend getting your rotating assembly balanced. Especially if you're going to be using an aftermarket crankshaft. If not, it could mean a short life for your new engine. If you do opt for this service, you'll have a smooth, fast revving engine. Flex Hone Demonstration Video

02:56
http://www.baileysonline.com -- FREE CATALOG of Firewood & Woodcutting Tools, Chainsaws, Tree Climbing Gear, Arborist Supplies and Outdoor Power Equipment -- If you take your engine repairs seriously, you're going to want a set of these. Flex-hones are used to lightly surface the bore of your cylinder, creating a cross hatch of scratches that helps your rings seat tightly to increase compression. They also smooth over imperfections around intake and exhaust ports. This type is 240 grit aluminum oxide (AO), recommended for cylinder coatings such as chrome and Nikasil. We also offer the more industrial 320 grit silicon carbide (SC) which works on all surfaces including cast iron cylinders. Honing is done by attaching a well oiled flex hone to a hand held drill (at 600-800 RPM) and oscillating the hone up and down 8 to 10 strokes for approximately 15-20 seconds. Hones are slightly larger than bore size.
