Morning & Evening Prayers : Read in Monotone out of the Jordanville Prayerbook#1/2

13:51
These are Morning and Evening Prayers for the Eastern Orthodox Church. This book is of Russian Orthodox Origin and most of the prayer were written by very Holy Men who had attained the Knowledge of God through Theoria. (When we say "knowledge of God" do not think of it in relations to human reasoning. God is known in a man's Nous - Nous is a Greek word which is often wrongly translated as "mind" in english. The Nous is "The Eye of the Soul", or it is, "The Purest Part of the Soul"). These prayers were chanted in monotone by the Russian Monk of the Holy Cross. You can buy the CD with the Prayers on it at their gift-shop online and also the "Psalter", and "The Preparation for Holy Communion". The online text of the PrayerBook is here: myriobiblos.gr/texts/english/prayerbook/main.htm

The Orthodox Faith ... FULL AUDIO BOOK Damaskus Religion

08:40:13
Saint John of DAMASCUS (c. 676 - 749) , translated by Rev. S. D. F. SALMOND (1838 - 1905) The Orthodox Faith is the classic epitome of the Early Greek Fathers. Writing just before the last of the truly Ecumenical Councils (787), he remains to this day, the last of the Eastern theologians whole-heartedly received by the West. This work, then, is an ecumenical touchstone that remains authoritative in Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism (through Peter Lombard's Sentances) and in all Reformation Churches interested in purging late medieval accretions and returning to the developed orthodoxy of Creedal Christianity.

Orthodox Prayer, How to pray? An Orthodox perspective

09:58
Arise, you, O children of the light, to praise the Lord of Hosts, that He may grant us the salvation of our souls. When we stand in the flesh before You, take away from our minds the sleep of forgetfulness, and grant us alertness, in order that we understand how to stand up before You at the time of prayer, and send up to You the appropriate doxology, and win the forgiveness of our many sins. This video shows how a Christian should pray as i was taught from my Father of Confession.

The Orthodox Study Bible -- An Overview and Critique

36:40
A review of the Orthodox Study Bible, ISBN: 978-0-7180-0359-3 (9780718003593). The book contains the New King James Version (NKJV) New Testament and an Old Testament modified in the direction of the Septuagint, along with notes, book introductions, and articles about Eastern Orthodox theology and piety. This hardback has a glued binding, very thin pages, lots of ghosting, and an Old Testament text that frequently departs from the Septuagint; but on the plus side the notes and articles are interesting and informative. By the way, as of 21 December 2018, this is by far my most disliked video! Yet the comments are largely positive. If you dislike this video, please explain why in the comments!

Why Orthodox Christians Pray To Saints

02:53
Why bother praying to saints when you can go to Jesus Christ directly? Praying to saints has been a mainstream part of the Christian faith for over 2,000 years, yet for many it raises a lot of questions. In this video, Fr. Peter Kavanaugh will explain the biblical and Christ-centered meaning behind this tradition. We ask the saints to pray for us in the same way we ask one another for prayers. Our God is not the God of the dead but of the living (Mark 12:27). In Jesus Christ, nothing separates us (Romans 8:38), we are all alive and one. The Orthodox Church is continues to live and teach the same life and doctrines since the first century. Come join us in worship!

Orthodox Nativity ending with Carols - "1985" St. Peter and St. Paul Orthodox Church, Chicago IL.

01:57:35
"Orthodox Nativity" (1985) St. Peter and St. Paul Orthodox Church A Russian Orthodox Church from 1933 to 1978, Chicago, Illinois A Parish of the Orthodox Church in America Diocese of the Midwest since 1978 to present. Burr Ridge, Illinois The Nativity Hymn... Thy Nativity, O Christ our God, Has shown to the world the light of wisdom. For by it those who worshiped the stars, Were taught by a star to adore Thee, The Sun of Righteousness. And to know Thee the Orient from on high, O Lord, Glory to Thee! Video done In memory of the departed Very Reverend Father Nicholas Semkoff Church Choir directed by Mr. John Sutko Recording and Compilation by Mr. Gregory M. Spontak History: For more than 50 years as a Russian Orthodox priest, the Very Rev. Fr. Nicholas Semkoff served St. Peter and St. Paul Orthodox Church in Chicago, Illinois alongside the Very Reverend Peter Semkoff, his father and founder of the church. His bond with the church was established the day he was born. Father Semkoff's father placed his own prayer book in the hands of Fr. Nicholas when he was just hours old. + May the memory of Fr. Nicholas be eternal. The traditional Russian Orthodox greeting at Christmas is "Khristos rodyvsya!" which translates to Christ is born! Answered with "Slavite Yoho!" which translates to Let Us Glorify Him! The Nativity according to the flesh of our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ, also called Christmas, is one of the Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church. The original date of this celebration in Eastern Christianity was January 6, in connection with Epiphany, and that is still the date of the celebration for the Armenian Apostolic Church and in Armenia, where it is a public holiday. As of 2013, there is a difference of 13 days between the modern Gregorian calendar and the older Julian calendar. Those who continue to use the Julian calendar or its equivalents thus celebrate December 25 and January 6, which on the Gregorian calendar translate as January 7 and January 19. For this reason, Ethiopia, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia, and the Republic of Moldova celebrate Christmas on what in the Gregorian calendar is January 7. Eastern Orthodox Churches in Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Antioch, Alexandria, Albania, Finland and the Orthodox Church in America celebrate Christmas on December 25 in the revised Julian calendar, corresponding to December 25 also in the Gregorian calendar.

Pan of worshippers attending mass STORYLINE In Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip Christian worshippers gathered to celebrate Orthodox Palm Sunday. According to the Orthodox faithful, Palm Sunday marks the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem and was greeted by cheering crowds bearing palm fronds. Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem led a Palm Sunday procession through the streets of Jerusalem before holding mass. Worshippers lit candles and prayed during busy Sunday's services. In the ancient Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Ethiopian Orthodox followers held energetic and vibrant Palm Sunday celebrations. Prayers were read and men and women wrapped in white robes bowed their heads during the ceremonies. At the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, worshippers gathered for mass in the Church of the Nativity, the traditional site of Jesus' birthplace according to believers. The church is a sacred place of pilgrimage for Christians of all denominations. Mass was also held for Orthodox believers in the Gaza Strip. Clergymen wearing ornate robes read prayers by the light of candles held by alter boys. Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week for the Orthodox Church, culminating in celebrations next Sunday with Orthodox Easter.
