Language localisation

08:33
Language localisation is the process of adapting a product that has been previously translated into multiple languages to a specific country or region and the English term locale, "a place where something happens or is set"). It is the second phase of a larger process of product translation and cultural adaptation to account for differences in distinct markets, a process known as internationalization and localization. Language localization differs from translation activity because it involves a comprehensive study of the target culture in order to correctly adapt the product to local needs. Localization can be referred to by the numeronym L10N. This video is targeted to blind users. Attribution: Article text available under CC-BY-SA Creative Commons image source in video

Localization and Internationalization in Java Tutorial Part 1

03:39
Using Locale and ResourceBundle Class L10N I18N using Netbeans Localization refers to the adaptation of a product, application or document content to meet the language, cultural and other requirements of a specific target market (a locale). Internationalization is the process of designing an application so that it can be adapted to various languages and regions without engineering changes. Resource bundles contain locale-specific objects. When your program needs a locale-specific resource, a String for example, your program can load it from the resource bundle that is appropriate for the current user's locale. In this way, you can write program code that is largely independent of the user's locale isolating most, if not all, of the locale-specific information in resource bundles. This allows you to write programs that can: be easily localized, or translated, into different languages handle multiple locales at once be easily modified later to support even more locales. 5 Reasons Why Language Localization Fails

00:28
Localization is a process through which any product and its content are made adaptable and culturally appropriate to a certain extent that it appears to be created solely for the target audience. Localization of products, marketing collaterals (brochures, websites etc..) & online applications is an important step before you decide to explore new markets. Companies have understood the importance of localization but still many have failed to channelize it in the right direction. Following are the 5 reasons to language localization failures - 1. Wrong resources- Who knows about the culture better than a local? Your localization team must have at least one local or native speaker of the target market. This is the only way your team can ensure the most accurate, localized experience for your end-users. Never forget about the term “local” in localization. 2. No first impression- The first impression about your product or service is decided by its name, the colour scheme, numbers and overall style including the UI in case of applications. Certain names, colours and numbers are a taboo in few countries or markets. You need to add a lot of efforts by creating a strong image from the start. It is the first impression that helps your potential customers to decide between you and your competitors in that market. 3. Same techniques- If you had success in one market, it doesn't mean that the magic formulae will work in other markets too. You will have to localize your product/service related content, images, colour scheme and overall flow of ideas based on what people in your new market need. McDonalds India menu is a classic example of perfect localization. 4. No local presence- Make your presence felt in the local market by being a part of the community. Be aware of the current events and happenings in the community and contribute in the best possible manner. Seek out moments of importance where you can connect with the community, your potential customers and ways to give back to the local community. 5. Old technology- Just having your desktop website and brochures localized is not enough. Did you check how your website appears on smartphones or tablets? Why not make a simple localized mobile application for each unique market. Educate your existing and potential customers via regular updates. Localized newsletters with greetings on local festivals are a great way to be in touch. Learn more about language localization in our latest FREE EBook. Get a copy now - http://bit.ly/cmmebook

AI vs Human Translation in Localisation | Search Elite SEO Conference

32:24
If your company is entering a new market where your potential customers speak a different language, one of the things at the top of your preparation agenda should be the language of your website. Don’t get lost in translation Does your new target audience speak English? If not, adjusting the content of your website will not only help it rank on the local search engines but it is also far more likely to convert your visitors into customers. It’s a simple fact that customers are 4 times more likely to buy your product or services if the content of your website is in their own language, but that doesn’t mean poor quality is sufficient. Localisation is often misunderstood, or the resource requirements underestimated – so in this session, Gianna Brachetti-Truskawa will show you what to expect when it comes to localisation and will help you decide why or when human translation might be a better fit than machine translation. Who is Gianna Brachetti-Truskawa? Gianna Brachetti-Truskawa is the Senior International SEO Manager at bold ventures GmbH. Her specialities are managing multilingual websites, hreflang implementation, schema.org, Rich Results and localisation (DE, EN, FR, IT). Her insatiable curiosity covers more topics than there are hours in a week, but her special passion is language in all its different quirks and features – and food of course. What is Search Elite? Search marketing continues to be the biggest and most powerful form of digital marketing. Search Elite is a conference designed exclusively for experienced search marketers. All the sessions are fast-paced, Q&A-packed, always informative and delivering the most forward-thinking digital strategies and tactics. Using App Store Localisation To Improve International App Marketing Success

14:46
Stefan Bielau - Managing Partner, Dynamo Partners presents at App Promotion Summit London 2014 on the topic of 'App Store Localisation: How Can You Internationalise Your ASO Strategy?' covering: - What Elements Of Your App Store Presence Can Be Localised? - What Impact Can You Achieve With Localisation? - How To Manage And Deliver Localisation Effectively "Well hello everybody, thanks James, thanks Moritz. It makes it much more easier for me to get started with my presentation today. A few words about myself. I run Dynamo Partners, a consulting firm based in Berlin, Cologne as well as in Warsaw. Together with three other folks we advise usually in four fields. The first one is dedicated to figuring out what kind of content service idea you want to actually mobilize, what's the technology behind, what are your expectations, your goals? We break that down into a business plan as well as a product concept. Move into the second part which is taking the lead during development, turning that concept into an actual product. The third one, user acquisition covering media planning, media buying, localization services, user acquisition in terms of the App Store environment and so on and so forth. And last, but not least, we can help you out with everything related to analytics, figuring out who's the user, what does he like, what does he not like? And bring that back to the product. We work pretty hands on across all major categories, we work with fitness apps, security apps, games and so on and so forth. Today's talk basically will cover three questions. The first one, why I should actually care? I mean Moritz just gave some quite nice impressive numbers at the end why and how localization helps to be more successful in the App Store. The second part, what are the differences between the major stores when it comes to actually localizing your metadata, what can you imply, what works and what does not work? And last, but not least, what I've learned over the last couple of years working with developers on my own, in terms of localizing the App Store details. So, what better opportunity to answer the question, "Why should I care about it, what's the reason why?" than using actual case studies and I'm more than happy to share some of those here today. This is Real Boxing, a great, great 3-D sports game on Android as well on iOS. Built by some Polish development house called Vivid Games and [inaudible 00:02:27]. Currently runs, I think, around 3.5 million downloads so far. Actually turned freemium two weeks ago, and those guys did last year a major effort in order to conquer three major Asian markets. So, we're talking Korea, China and Japan. And what they've done, they took all the assets, keywords, title, description as well as the artwork, like the screen shots and the videos, in the stores plus added of course a language set in the app itself which catered to Korean, Chinese audiences as well as Japan as a market." Indoor Localisation, Tracking and Navigation Global Positioning System (GPS) provides accurate outdoor positioning and navigation, but the satellite signals cannot penetrate indoors to provide service. In view of infancy and commercial potential of indoor location-based services (LBS), the LSCM R&D Centre has developed a Wi-Fi based interactive indoor positioning system with advanced techniques to enhance the localisation accuracy. The platform project is now under trial run in the Hong Kong International Airport.
