In the United States, child poverty has reached record levels, with over 16 million children now affected. Food banks are facing unprecedented demand, and homeless shelters now have long waiting lists, as families who have known a much better life have to leave their homes, sometimes with just a few days notice. America’s Poor Kids meets three children whose families are struggling to get by, and asks them to tell us what life in modern America really looks like through their eyes. Told from the point of view of the children themselves, this one-hour documentary offers a unique perspective on the nation's flagging economy and the impact of unemployment, homelessness and poverty as seen through the eyes of the children affected. Japanese people are known for their intelligence, politeness, and wellness. Why is this nation so unique and different from the rest of the world? It seems we’ve found the answer – they have an incredibly cool education system and unique teaching methods! There is a unique method in Japanese schools for developing creativity in kids. We believe that the whole world needs to adopt it! It’s called “Nameless paints.” In this video, we'll tell you how it works. Watch till the end – there is a small but brilliant bonus for you. As you can see, the spots are also different sizes. - In Japanese schools, students don’t take any exams until they reach grade four (the age of 10). The goal for the first three years of school is not to judge the child’s knowledge, but to establish good manners and to develop their character. - While most schools in the world begin their academic year in September or October, in Japan, it is April that marks the start of the academic and business calendar. The first day of school often coincides with one of the most beautiful natural phenomena — the time of cherry blossom. - In Japanese schools, students have to clean the classrooms, cafeterias, and even toilets all by themselves. Most Japanese schools do not employ janitors or custodians. - All classmates eat in their classroom together with the teacher. This helps build positive teacher-student relationships. - To get into a good junior high school, most Japanese students enter a preparatory school or attend private after-school workshops. - Japanese calligraphy, or Shodo, involves dipping a bamboo brush in ink and using it to write hieroglyphs on rice paper. - While some schools have their attire, traditional Japanese school uniform consists of a military style for boys and a sailor outfit for girls. - At the end of high school, Japanese students have to take an exam that determines their future. A student can choose one college they would like to go to, and that college has a particular score requirement. - Having gone through ‘examination hell,’ Japanese students usually take a little break. In this country, college is often considered the best years of a person’s life. Sometimes, Japanese people call this period a ‘vacation’ before work. The legendary characters of Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar Allan Poe come to life in this exciting, historically-based novel by Seth Adam Smith! In 1730, young Rip Van Winkle sneaks into a cemetery and comes face-to-face with the ghost of William Blaxton, the first settler of Boston. Warning Rip that the city is in grave danger, Blaxton gives Rip a mysterious gift-a pumpkin lantern with power over life and death. With the help of the stern and secretive, Jonathan Edwards and the talkative, know-it-all raven, Nathaniel, Rip travels across Massachusetts colony in search of Feathertop, a mythical, pumpkin-headed scarecrow with the power to save Boston. Along the way, Rip encounters characters like Tom Walker, Katy Cruel, Hop-Frog, Alfred Bulltop Stormalong, Captain Ahab, Amelia Simmons, Mistress Hibbins, Pearl Prynne, Roger Chillingworth, the Midnight Minister, and the traitorous Goodman Brown-heroes and villains from early American history, literature, and folklore. Pursued by witches, werewolves, and the living dead, Rip Van Winkle must race against time to save the "city upon a hill" and become a light to the world. "Be warned, Smith has crafted something you won't want to put down. So clever and fresh, this easily stands out as the most unique piece of fiction I've read in years." - New York Times Bestselling Author, Jason. F. Wright

In this video, we meet a family of 5 living a minimalist lifestyle in a 600 square foot, 1 bedroom apartment, in Ontario, Canada. Heather, Dominique and their 3 children moved from an 800 square foot suburban condo into this 600 square foot apartment to reduce their living expenses in order to pay for an early intervention therapy program for their eldest son who is autistic. The cost of the therapy program is over $5,000 CAD, per month. They’re able to save close to $2,000 each month by keeping their living expenses low, and they fundraise the rest of the money they need: https://www.gofundme.com/therapyforjacob The apartment has a kitchen and bathroom and one large living area that they use as a dining room, living room, and master bedroom for the parents. The single bedroom has a set of bunk beds, and one crib, as well as lots of floor space for toys like a trampoline. The couple have gotten into the habit of regularly donating stuff they don’t need, doing the dishes and cleaning up frequently to keep the space clutter-free, and living without things after they break instead of replacing them (like their kettle for example). The couple says they’re able to make this minimalist living situation work because they prioritize their son’s therapy and education over accumulating objects. At first, minimalism was meant to be a short-term living situation to pay for their son’s therapy for the first year, but they’re enjoying the simplicity and the savings that their lifestyle brings and they may continue after the year is up so that they can save more money for future expenses that might come up. We have used so many different methods of travel in Thailand. Airplane, train, tuk tuk, grab, songthaew, public taxi's, sleeper trains, water taxis, uber, bicycle, and bus. Today we try a new form of transportation. After spending time at Kata Beach in Phuket we are leaving to visit some more islands. We booked a ferry from Phuket to Phi Phi Island (yes it's pronounced pee pee to all you immature gigglers our there.) The ferry was a fun experience for us land lubbers. We checked into our hotel and explored the island. It's known as a party island but it wasn't too crazy as we are here during slow season. Phi Phi island is breathtaking with it's emerald waters, white sand beaches, and steep lush green cliffs that rise abruptly out of the sea. It is a place we won't forget as it is different than anywhere we have ever been. Join us as we continue to chill on Thailand's islands. ---------------------------------LIVE YOUR GOOD STORY!---------------------------- Airbnb $40TRAVEL CREDIT: www.airbnb.com/c/marisaj489 ---------------------------------------ABOUT US---------------------------------- We love adventure and living our lives to the fullest! At the end of our lives, we would love to have a life worth reading about. We started our "Good Story" by selling most everything and traveling the U.S. in our "tiny house" RV for a year. After our RV trip we lived as expats in the Dominican Republic volunteering for an organization we are passionate about, Operation Underground Railroad. For a shocking number of students, the college experience means living in your car to avoid massive debt. These two students showed us how they get by while homeless and in college. » Subscribe to NowThis: http://go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe 1 in 5 college students at Humboldt State University in California are homeless. It's among the worst-affected public colleges in a nationwide crisis. This is what they face every day. Jasmine is a 23-year-old kinesiology major at Humboldt. She's been living homeless amongst her peers for a year and is open with friends about it to learn who is going through something similar. She has a full ride academic scholarship. She carries what would be her bedroom closet in a shoulder bag. California's unaffordable housing crisis and the rising cost of college are putting students in a rough spot. An estimated 50,000 students in the California State University system are experiencing homelessness. Nolan is a junior at Humboldt state studying geology but you'd never know that he's homeless. Nolan lives out of his car. According to Jasmine, 3 or 4 students can be seen sleeping in their cars in the parking lot overnight. Chante Catt, off-campus housing liaison at HSU, blames the local student homelessness on the housing stock, Airbnb, and the policies and practices of the property managers in the area. Nolan and Jasmine have avoided taking out students loans to pay for housing because of the future financial burden. Marta Barceló lives in a 47 square meter (505 sq ft) apartment in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. She first moved in with her husband. Then they had a son so they built him a bed under the stairs. Then they had a second son, so they put the living room on the roof, built a closet under the stairs and put their sons in bunkbeds in the old living room-turned-bedroom. "Life of a Farmer" features farmers of different ages on farms of different sizes and types. The documentary features the values and traditions they have in common and the challenges of adapting to new technologies, passing the farm to the next generation and lessons learned from a life on the farm. The families are not related, but their lives are all devoted to farming some of Ohio's most common crops on farms in Urbana, St. Paris, Delaware, New Paris and Plain City. Through five different stories, this special Our Ohio documentary seeks to tell one story: the life of an Ohio farmer. The five farmers profiled are Abe Hostetler, a 90-year-old retired farmer; Kenny Lensman, a 53-year-old farmer; Tim Jordan, a 22-year-old farmer; Luke Davis, a 14-year-old aspiring farmer; and Randi and Randy Dibert and their three-month-old daugher, Lydia.

Deep in a forest in North Carolina lies a community of people who've left their jobs, given up their cell phones, and seceded. At age thirteen, using money from summer lawn-mowing jobs, and bartering (electrical wiring help in exchange for cleaning out a garage in one case), Iowa's Thill completed his tiny house- one that he calls the practice precursor to a future "real" tiny house he plans on designing and eventually living in. “La Sape” is a unique movement based in Congo that unites fashion-conscious men who are ready to splurge money they don’t really have on designer clothes. Dressing in stark contrast with their surroundings, these elegant ambiance-makers become true local celebrities… but this fame comes at a price. The Republic of the Congo in Central Africa can’t boast of high standards of living. Yet, there are men here who are prepared to spend a fortune on designer suits. They call themselves “sapeurs” – members of the “La Sape” movement. “La Sape” comes from French and stands for “The Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People”. For its adherents, it’s all about style and elegance, the right combination of colours and textures, brand-names and the highest quality materials. They derive true joy from showing off their attire on the streets of Brazzaville – the country’s capital and the centre of the “La Sape” movement. Walking down dusty streets lined with clay houses, they turn heads and feel like kings. And there’s no price they won’t pay for this. In fact, behind the image of success these dandies project, there are often stories of significant financial troubles caused by their extravagant hobby. To afford the price tag of their designer clothes, “sapeurs” have to save, borrow and even steal money, sometimes bringing ruin to their families. But even the grim consequences of their indulgent dressing habits often don’t stop “sapeurs” from spending money they don’t really have. They are in constant competition with each other and investing in their image is more important to them than improving their living conditions. Dressing smartly becomes a true addiction that is very hard to conquer. However, some “sapeurs” do strive to find a balance between looking chic and being reasonable with their spending. They insist that the “La Sape” movement isn’t about designer suits but rather developing impeccable taste. They make an emphasis on learning to dress well but within one’s means. This way, style and elegance will demand fewer sacrifices from their devotees and will be accessible to more sophisticated men. Watch Video here: http://tinyurl.com/jr2efug Our Story Life is crazy! The tide smashes even the best-laid plans to sand… and so it goes! This is a story about two people, who met by chance, were bound by fate and who continue to let the quirky side of life guide their paths! How else could a young man from a tiny town in Albania and a farm girl from the mountains of Montana meet in the middle, with a life guided by adventure? We met in Rome. Engjell was a waiter in a little Roman restaurant down by Trevi Fountain and I was a student abroad, spending a year in the Eternal City. There are some pretty cheesy movies about the giggly American girl meeting the handsome foreigner abroad, who then spend all their time bombing around ancient ruins on a shiny moped, hair blowing in the wind and smiles from ear to ear. And yet… serendipity delivers! We did fall in love and he did have a moped… In 2006, we moved back to the United States. We returned as a family of three, as little Fiona had been born in Rome at FateBeneFratelli, the hospital on an island… where all the Roman babies have been born for centuries! We moved often, looking for the perfect place. In 2010, we found an opportunity to open our own restaurant in Bigfork, Montana. We spent seven years and thousands of hours bringing the flavors of Italy to rural Montana. We were doing well! We were successful and busy and had finally bought our own home… we had a mortgage and car payments and a full-time, ultra-demanding job! We opened a second restaurant! We even added two more family members with the addition of Hugo and Remy! We were living the dream! Or were we? On the outside, it looked like we had it all… that success had reached out its hand and we had graciously accepted. But in reality, we were working 80-100 hours each per week, we rarely saw our three beautiful kids who knew the nanny better than they did us, and we were burned out… from too much work, from too little time spent together as a family, from life! We had bought into the well-oiled idea of success and were realizing quickly the fatal flaws in our plan. So we decided, together, to give it all up! We took the giant, terrifying, leap and sold it all to travel on a shoestring budget and let life teach us again, teach us anew, of what it looks like to be a successful human being! We are just beginning on this wonderful adventure! We have been traveling the U.S. for a year as a family in a motorhome. We are every day astounded by the diversity and creativity of both humans and Mother Nature. In July, we will set off for a one year trip around the world! This time, too, food and wine lead our adventure. We hope to dig deep into every culture as we go, unearthing culinary tradition everywhere we go! We plan to travel to places where we can stage and work in restaurants and vineyards to learn more and to ultimately be able to take what we have learned and start fresh…inspired, changed… wherever we end up. This trip is about re-defining success! It is about food and wine…about a plate of pasta or a shared bottle of wine, about experiences! It is about family and figuring out how we all fit together and what life’s REAL plan for us is! We invite you to join us in this crazy adventure as we travel the world! Engjell, Kaleigh, Fiona, Hugo and Remy

I think this goes without saying, but this video contains Spoilers. Download the song on Bandcamp: http://animatedjames.bandcamp.com Here's the song on soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/animatedjames/marvel-musical I haven't done a solo project in a LONG time. The last one I did was my first video: Getting Noticed. But where as that video sucked this one is... better. Back in April, with Iron Man 3 coming out, I wanted to do a tribute to Phase One of the Marvel movie universe, because these movies are some of my all time favorites. Yeah, even Thor and Iron Man 2. So I was wondering how I could pay tribute to these movies in a way that will surely be entertaining... well, Jon Cozart is really popular on the web, so I decided to make a musical out of the 6 movies. Plus, I always wanted to show off my semi-good singing/composing skills. Besides, I'm a New Yorker. I LOVE Broadway musicals, but if you don't like musicals, or if you're just homophobic... you might not wanna watch this. Now with this out of the way, Time to work on the project that EVERYONE has been constantly telling me me to do ... Sonic Lost World Plot. (Kidding... Amy VS Pinkie is the next cartoon.) L.J. has been living in her vintage 1977 GMC Vandura camper van conversion for 3 years while working a 9-5 job in HR. She bought the van for just $500 and enjoys the van life because it allows her to save money and live on a budget, but mostly she loves the freedom of parking wherever she wants, and of being able to travel on weekends. She's recently quit her job and is planning to travel for a year in the van, and overseas to the Philippines and Indonesia. We love how simple L.J.'s van is — no power, no heat, just the basics like a bed, a swivel seat, a cooler, and some books. She makes the lifestyle look easy although she does splurge during a couple of the coldest winter months to sublet an apartment. Thanks for watching!
