Held on August 9 2018 This session by Gregg Christman focuses on general questions and insights regarding Oracle Basic Compression, Oracle OLTP Table Compression and Oracle Advanced Row Compression. Here is a quick guide to the highlights: 2:25 Basic vs. Advanced Row Compression comparison 4:55 Should you expect the same compression ratio with Basic and Advanced Row Compression? 8:29 Should you compress all tables and partitions? 15:50 What is the overhead associated with Advanced Row Compression? 17:06 Do I need to change my application to use compression? 17:31 Who uses Advanced Row Compression? 18:35 Is there any ongoing administration with Advanced Row Compression 20:43 When does updated data get compressed? 26:30 What role does PCTFREE play in updates and compression? 28:44 Does Advanced Row Compression work with Oracle Encryption? 29:34 Does enabling compression online or offline make a difference? 31:38 What are the typical compression ratios with Basic and Advanced Row Compression? 32:56 Are there any suggested MOS notes related to compression? 34:12 Feedback about ACO from customers AskTOM Office Hours offers free, monthly training and tips on how to make the most of Oracle Database, from Oracle product managers, developers and evangelists. https://asktom.oracle.com/ Oracle Developers portal: https://developer.oracle.com/ Sign up for an Oracle Cloud trial: https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/tryit music: bensound.com

Oracle Database 11g: Import schema objects

08:19
Import schema objects: The Export and Import utilities provide a simple way for you to transfer data objects between Oracle databases, even if they reside on platforms with different hardware and software configurations. When you run Export against an Oracle database, objects (such as tables) are extracted, followed by their related objects (such as indexes, comments, and grants), if any. The extracted data is written to an export dump file. The Import utility reads the object definitions and table data from the dump file. An export file is an Oracle binary-format dump file that is typically located on disk or tape. The dump files can be transferred using FTP or physically transported (in the case of tape) to a different site. The files can then be used with the Import utility to transfer data between databases that are on systems not connected through a network. The files can also be used as backups in addition to normal backup procedures. Export dump files can only be read by the Oracle Import utility. The version of the Import utility cannot be earlier than the version of the Export utility used to create the dump file. Importing Data from Excel into Oracle Database using SQL Developer 4.1

02:23
One of SQL Developer’s most popular features has undergone a significant upgrade. Users can quickly define and recall delimited or Excel files to be imported to a new or existing Oracle table. Data preview and validation is provided for each column, as well as ‘best guess’ data type and date format mask mapping. This process can now be automated via the SQL Developer command line interface (SDCLI) ‘Import’ command. NOTE: This is a video only. There is no audio. Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. How to Exclude Schemas and Tables using Export and Import. /* Step By Step */

08:33
Today I am showing you 1. How to perform Export and Import with Exclude Schemas and Tables in Oracle Datapump utility. When we take a Export Full database Backup but I don’t take a backup of Scott and System Schemas. That time we can use Exclude command. We can Export Scott Schema but exclude EMP , DEPT Tables. If the expdp exclude parameter is used directly from the command line (and  not in a parameter file (parfile)), the special characters (quote marks) in the exclude clause may need to be escaped with  backslash (\) character . Because of this, it is recommended that you always use a parameter file (parfile). In Windows we used round bracket ( ) in IN clouse. But In Linux, we used { } bracket. Exclude Schema: expdp system/admin directory=mydump FULL=Y dumpfile=full.dmp exclude=schema:\"=\'SCOTT\'\“ expdp system/admin directory=mydump FULL=Y dumpfile=full.dmp exclude=schema:\”In{\'SCOTT\‘,\’SYSTEM\’}\“ Exclude Tables: expdp system/admin directory=mydump schemas='SCOTT' dumpfile=scott.dmp exclude=table:\"=\'EMP\'\“ OR expdp system/admin directory=mydump dumpfile=scott.dmp schemas=‘SCOTT’ exclude=:\"IN {\’EMP\',\’ DEPT\‘}\“ It is very easy to understand.

Working with the Trace File Analyzer Collector

28:22
The Trace File Analyzer (TFA) Collector Tool is a utility for collecting first failure diagnostics when creating Service Requests with Oracle Support. Using TFA Collector to make diagnostic collections removes questions about what files to collect and upload. TFA knows about all the well known Oracle and operating system diagnostic locations and collects only files that have been modified proximate to problem time specified from any of those well known locations. Larger files are also pruned proximate to problem time specified to reduce the size of the upload. If the system is a clustered environment TFA collects relevant diagnostics from the remote nodes as well. All of this can be accomplished with one simple command. Key features of TFA Collector include: RAC and single instance non-RAC support Time-based collection of relevant files OS Clusterware ASM DB OSW and CHMOS etc Large file pruning Cluster-wide time-relevant collections Analytics for key files DB alert logs Clusterware alert logs ASM alert logs system messages OSWatcher top and slabinfo data Flexible command-line interface Copyright © 2014 Oracle and/or its affiliates. Important topic of database Indexing like need of indexing in database management indexing, Why we do indexing in files in database, How we do indexing in dbms, Types of indexing, Methods of Indexing, Advantages of Indexing, How to access a file fast in database, Single level Indexing in database file, Multilevel indexing in database file structure in dbms, Primary Indexing in database, Clustered Indexing in database, Secondary Indexing file in dbms, Advantages of using single level Indexing in database are discussed. Single level index: This means we create index file for the main file, and then stop the process. Multiple level index: This means, we further index the index file and keep repeating the process until we get one block. Multi-level Index helps in breaking down the index into several smaller indices in order to make the outermost level so small that it can be saved in a single disk block-0, which can easily be accommodated anywhere in the main memory. A.) PRIMARY INDEXING- i)Main file is always sorted according to primary key. ii)Indexing is done on Primary Key, therefor called as primary indexing B.) CLUSTERED INDEXING: - i)Main file will be ordered on some non-key attributes ii)No of entries in the index file = no of unique values of the attribute on which indexing is done. iii)It is the example of Sparse as well as dense indexing C.) SECONDARY INDEXING- i)Most common scenarios, Suppose that we already have a primary indexing on primary key, but there are frequent query on some other attributes , so we may decide to have one more index file with some other attribute. ii)Main file is ordered according to the attribute on which indexing is done(unordered). iii)Secondary indexing can be done on key or non-key attribute. iii)It is an example of dense indexing.
