Back in August of 2017, Patrick Matamoros sat down with HYPEBEAST Radio to talk about how he met Kanye West and the resurgence of old band merch. He also described what it was like collaborating with Jerry Lorenzo and Fear of God on a collection. Now, for our docu-series, the vintage T-shirt dealer takes us through one of his typical days. When Matamoros first moved to New York City, he set up on the corner of Prince and Mercer streets, in the epicenter of Manhattan's SoHo district. He recalls nearly giving up after spending a whole day there not selling a single tee until a man purchased multiple pieces right as he began packing up. Fast forward and he's meeting with Chris Gibbs of Union and taking us on a house call with music producer Benny Blanco in Los Angeles. If you guys had to guess what do you think mine is? Just leave a comment below, let me know. I'm recording this video in advance, so I don't know what you're going to leave a comment with. But if I had to guess you're probably going to say my favorite marketing channel is Google. By leveraging content marketing, SEO, you rank at the top, you continually get more traffic, and you can do well. But you know what? That is not my favorite marketing channel. My favorite marketing channel is social media marketing. And here's what's funny, I make more revenue from Google, I get more traffic from Google, but yet I prefer social media marketing over SEO. And do you want to know why? Because it allows me to connect with you more one-on-one. The beautiful part about marketing is it's not just about releasing your message and having people hear it and then trying to make some revenue or some sales. It's about getting to know your customers, connecting with them, relating to them on a one-on-one basis. And because of social media, I'm able to do that. Whether it's responding to YouTube comments and connecting with you or Facebook comments, or LinkedIn comments, or even if it's as simple as responding to my blog comments or getting an email from you guys, or getting a message through WhatsApp. But here's the thing, if it weren't for social media I wouldn't be able to connect with you guys as much as I'm doing right now. And if I didn't connect with you guys as much as I'm doing right now I wouldn't understand your needs, your pain points and I wouldn't be able to help you solve them. I can't answer all of them, but I'm going to try, especially when it comes to marketing. And by solving them and understanding what issues you're having that data and that research allows me to build a better product and service. Yes I'm getting more traffic from Google, and it's converting better than my traffic from Facebook or YouTube but because I'm connecting with you over social media I'm able to build a better product and service, know what messaging relates to you, optimize my conversions. And that Google traffic does that much better because I've connected with you on social media and I have this understanding of what you're looking for. When someone comes to your site from Google, you don't get an understanding of what they're looking for. They don't open up and tell you everything. Sure, you could run surveys using SurveyMonkey and get some of this data, but it's not the same as social media is. That's why I truly love social media. So when you're thinking about marketing don't think about channels based on how much money they're making you. I want you to think about channels as what kind of value that they're providing. And for me, that value, a lot of it, comes to that one-on-one relationship that I'm building with people like you over social media. And in addition to that here's what most people don't tell you. It doesn't matter if someone's an expert, whether it's an Elon Musk, or a Gary Vaynerchuk, or Tony Robbins they're learning from you as well. For example, when I release a video or I release a status update and you guys give me feedback or tell me what I'm doing wrong, that makes me better as an individual. No one is perfect. You look at people like Elon Musk. He's had his ups and downs with Tesla. Overall he's come through and done alright. But no matter how smart you are you're going to make mistakes. And social media's an amazing place because not only are you connecting with people but they're giving you feedback, and they're helping you improve as an individual as well.

this medicine ball workout for abs only takes 3 moves. I did include a challenge exercise and a bonus exercise. Even I had problems with the challenge exercise. But the bonus exercise was really good for giving my core a good burn. This is a quick ab workout that you can accomplish in 10 minutes depending on the number of reps. It includes weighted situps and leg raises. I used a 6 and a 4-lb medicine ball. You can exchange the weighted situps for weighted crunches. You can also do these with a dumbbell if you don't have a medicine ball. Just be careful not to use a weight that's too heavy, but definitely try to use a weight that will really work out your abs. And that is this: ask for as much as possible. I'm not kidding. You don't know what your ceiling is. If you go by CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and views, it really puts you in a tough spot. Why? Because views and impressions have commodified to such a level that you'll never hit enough scale to match it. Most people are going to end up making $4 on their show if they go that route. It's the association that matters in the end. I don't run ads on the #AskGaryVee Show, but if I did, I would expect pretty substantial bank. But that money wouldn't be predicated on the 20,000 views I get per episode on YouTube, or the 50,000 impressions on Facebook. Not at all. The money would be predicated on the brand association. There is extra value in endorsing a product when you've never done it before. So the thing you need to think about when considering sponsorship depends on what kind of show you have. If it's a small business start-up, you need to negotiate. A price needs to be set, and you need to start high. I can tell you now that if you're talking to a media buying agency, you're already in a tough place because they are looking to buy scale. They are going to want to commodify your traffic. That won't make sense for 99.9% of the people who have shows on YouTube or iTunes. Even if you have substantial viewership, those big agencies won't make sense for you, for all the reasons stated above. My advice for you is to go a different route when it comes to sponsorship. Don't stay in the business of direct conversion, for one. What you want to be is in the brand association pricing. It's about the fact that the brand chooses to be on the show, and that is what they want. The association. Not the conversions. So: start high. Price high. Don't ask for what you want. Double or triple it to leave room for negotiations. You can really miss out if you don't do that. And be in it for the brand association, not conversion. Those are my big pieces of advice for getting sponsorship. Now, you just have to contact the sponsors. Start close to home, in your field; email every business that could have anything to do with your show's subject matter. Every business. And ask. Benjamin Kickz, an 18-year-old entrepreneur who sells incredibly rare sneakers to celebrities, sat down with Business Insider to discuss how he does it all. The following is a transcript of the video. Benjamin Kickz: My name is Benjamin Kickz and I'm 18 years old and I get sneakers for a lot of celebrities and also sell them on my website to the public. I got into sneakers at 13, so like, 5 years ago, but I really started selling them heavy at 15. Basically what made me get into buying and selling shoes was because my mom bought me this one shoe, the LeBron 9 Galaxys, and everyone was like “oh this is the wave.” I just felt like I had the sauce, so I just started buying shoes. The first sneakers I ever bought was either the Galaxy Foams or the Milo 7s. And then my dad was like “oh, you must be crazy, you're out of your mind.” And then I sold them for $1,000. He was like “oh, so you found someone just as dumb as you.” Basically, I started off with DJ Khaled cause he was the first celebrity that I sold sneakers to. Then he introduced me to a bunch of other people like P. Diddy and French Montana and all of them. Before he had a Snapchat, we would just hang out all the time and do stuff. Then he made a Snapchat which obviously went viral I'm pretty sure we all know. And then from there, he just started posting Snapchats of stuff we always use to do. And people used to think it was funny and not normal but it was regular stuff we did.So he put me on through Snapchat basically and then just helped my business. How's business, you know, it's boomin'. A lot of my clients are in the music industry but I guess it's because I was always into hip-hop as a kid, like, that's all I listened to. After DJ Khaled, he introduced me to a bunch of other artists, so I guess it just went from there. Athletes too but I'm not into sports as much I'm into hip-hop. Some of my favorite artists are like Migos, Drake, Future, Lil Wayne, obviously. Manny: What is it like to hang and party with Drake? Benjamin: I mean, I don't think he's like how he is in his music because I've never been with him when he's in his feelings, so I don't know. But like … he's cool, he's mad cool. Manny: So out of all those artists who are your biggest customers? Benjamin: Probably P. Diddy. Like, he just buys like, phew. Yeah, very, very bulk. Manny: Tell me about what you think about the Under Armour shoes. I think the Under Armour shoes are amazing, I love them. I got a pair for myself, personally. The Steph Curry ones. I think the Big Baller Brand shoes, I think they're dope. Everyone's saying they're too expensive for like $500 retail price. Personally, I think it's a little high, but the shoe's dope and obviously they're some of the best players out right now so, you know, do your thing. Manny: They're getting a lot of props for just taking their own lane and making their own shoe. Is that something you could see yourself getting into? Benjamin: Yeah, most definitely. I mean, I wouldn't mind a contract depending on like, who it would be, but I would definitely do my own shoe also. What is the best way to shop for perfume / cologne? If you can find it in a store, smell it first. But don't just settle for a spritz on a card because that can be deceiving for several reasons. The cards may be tainted by other perfumes that were sprayed in the air. Cards aren't made of your body chemistry. It's best to try one perfume at a time on your skin and wait until it drys down a few minutes. You want to make sure that you don't already have any lotions or any other perfume on when you're trying out different flavors. Once you've found the scent you can either buy it immediately or write it down and save it for your wish list. What if you don't have a fragrance boutique anywhere near you? If you're not fortunate enough to live by any perfume boutique then I recommend trying to find one when you're out of town or on vacation where there is one. If that's not an option, then trust the nose of collectors and folks who know what they're talking about. There's a great website that allows you to find just about any cologne or perfume that's ever been made. It will list out ingredients and it will also have a forum where people who purchased it can chime in and offer their opinions. That website is www.fragrantica.com One of the best things about this site is once you've found a couple perfumes that you like, you can search them and based on their ingredients, the website will suggest other perfumes / colognes that you may like. What stores will I find a great variety of both boutique and regular lines of perfume / cologne? Any high end department store like http://www.neimanmarcus.com http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/Entry.jsp http://www1.bloomingdales.com http://shop.nordstrom.com or dedicated beauty shops such as http://www.sephora.com and http://www.ulta.com If you're fortunate enough to live by any one of these stores, go in and try it. If you're already wearing something and you don't want to mix fragrances, most of these places will give you samples. Don't be shy! Ask for samples, especially if you're making any kind of investment in what will be your signature scent(s). Remember! - You get not because you ask not. Notice that most of those places have a dot com. You can shop online as well as in their store. The places mentioned above are all authorized dealers of the brands they sell in their store. They usually sell at full retail and discounting is very rare. If you can get on a mailing list at any of these places, that's also a good thing because you'll get announcements of special buys and gift with purchases. Those are the best times to buy. I do love to bargain shop and I love finding great deals on perfumes that I know are expensive and hard to get but buying anywhere other than an authorized dealer is always going to a risk. That still hasn't stopped me though and I feel like I've gotten as good as if not better service from places like http://www.onestopfragrances.com and https://www.fragrancenet.com I have bought from both places and can say with confidence that the products they sell are legit.
