Watch this amazing talk about the new Elm-based library Style Elements! The Style Elements library is a new set of primitives for working with layout and style in Elm. The most common goal when working with your view is usually to set or to adjust your layout. HTML and CSS make this difficult because there's no central place that represents your layout. You're generally forced to bounce back and forth between multiple definitions in multiple files in order to adjust layout, even though it's probably the most common thing you'll do. The Style Elements library makes layout a first class idea, which makes working with style and layout a breeze. Use a CSS Class to Style an Element, freeCodeCamp review html & css

06:14
This challenge introduces CSS classes. A class allows you to specify which elements you want to receive certain styles. This comes in handy when you do not want to apply the same style to like elements. For example, you might want to apply a style to your first heading tag and to your first paragraph tag. And a different style to your second heading tag, and paragraph tag. You can give the first 2 tags the same class which contains the specific style you want applied. While the next heading and paragraph can have a different style applied through their specific class. Class names are created by you, so give them good ones.

CSS Tutorial — Selectors, Element, Class and ID (3/13)

06:35
CSS Tutorial — Selectors, Element, Class and ID (3/13) So we just looked at a basic CSS statement and it starts with a selector. So what the hell are selectors, again? Say you are brangelina, and you have a bunch of kids, you wanna dress them for school except only one of them is old enough for school. So first you have to pick the right kid, then dress/style them. That’s what selectors are. Choose which kid you wanna prepare for school. Or since you’re not brangelina, Choose which element you wanna style. It all starts with the selector. There are different kinds of selectors. In our example, we used what’s called an element selector because it targets your styles based on the element type, That’s the most basic selector there is. By using the element type. Like a p tag. Cool? Cool. The problem with element selectors is that you might not want to turn ALL your paragraphs blue. What if you had 3 paragraphs and you only want one of them to be blue? The element type is an identifier but in this case it’s too general. I wanna show you an example. Look at this thing on atom’s website. See these two sections? One of them has a white background, the other one is beige. If you inspect it you’ll see they’re both divs, here they are, so clearly the dudes who made this couldn’t have said oh select all divs and change the background to white or beige. They needed to be more specific. You can select elements based on other kinds of identifiers. Classes and ID. Class is the most common and useful one, in fact that’s exactly what Atom is using. Take a look. They have wrapper class on one, and highlight on the other. If you click on highlight, you’ll see that class has a beige background on it. So let’s do one ourselves. Let’s say you have 4 paragraphs and you want to alternate between dark and light. So dark, light, dark, light. In other words you wanna reuse a style for multiple elements. In this case you can use a CLASS selector. The way you write these in CSS is you write the name of your class, this could be whatever you want, just can’t have spaces and some special characters, say DARK, and you put a DOT in front of it. Why a DOT? Well, I dunno what to tell you. There’s no good explanation why, that at least I know about. It’s just syntax that you have to remember. This tells the browser hey this is a CLASS selector. Then of course you have to add the class to your element in HTML. This means “hey select all the elements that have a class attribute and the value is dark. Let’s try it: DEMO 4 - I’m gonna cover ID selectors too just for the sake of it although we don’t use them much. ID attributes are specific to one element only. If you have a style that you want to apply to only one element, for some reason, you can add an ID to that element (for example: my-blue-paragraph), then use an ID selector in CSS to style it. ID selectors are just like CLASS selectors, except you put a # in front of the name instead of the DOT. That becomes the CSS selector for the element with that ID. So let’s try it. DEMO 3 - The problem with ID is that it’s limited to only 1 element. Remember IDs can’t be shared between elements. So you can’t reuse my-blue-paragraph ID for multiple elements. So those are the 3 basic selectors. Element, Class and ID. “Element” to style the elements of that type. ID to target only one specific element. And Class to reuse for multiple elements. We’ll be using all of them from now on. Selectors can get much much more complicated and they will, but now you know the basics. So next, we’re gonna look at some of our options when it comes to style properties, like color, so far that’s all we’ve used so I’m gonna talk about it in detail. Later, fonts, sizes, background, border, animations, display types, flexbox, where’d everyone go? I was talking.

And your website layout in general. Okay. Inline elements are basically elements that flow, that flows one after each other, for example, add one p tag and add some text inside, as you can see we can add our span, which is an in-line element and says this is span and you can see that our text is inside the text it this text wrap its around, so nothing special, you just add some in-line elements. For example, let's add the big is this is an inline element and say this is big text, and that's it. Inline elements are elements that are inside the text and the text flows around them. Okay, let's move to block elements. Block elements are, for example, our div is a block element and I will explain on this example. Let's add to our div some styling, some styling, I prepare some styles over here in the comment just cut it inside add some width to be 100 pixels, and the height also, and background color to be white. Just to add hex code... and now we can see our div element. For example, if you add, we can add in the span elements, we can add another span element, for example, this is a big text big, we just copy and paste it and it will be in a line, but if we add another div elements, just copy this one here, it will go in another line. Just add some margin so we can better see margin to be up 20 pixels. Okay, so we can see our, our div element so let's add another div element. okay, there's another div element. As you can see the block elements are one below another and our in-line elements are next to each other. But, we have tricks, we can just mash up some these things, and just let's say that are div elements, which are naturally block elements, let's say display, display inline, so they act like inline elements. And what happened? As you can see something is wrong. And that's because inline elements don't support height and width of the elements. Just check this out: if we add to our big, just say it's add to our big element, let's add height for example 100 pixels nothing happens. Width also 100 pixels nothing happens. Because inline elements don't support width and height, but block elements do, so we just need to display these like inline-block. As you can see now our elements are acting just like in-line elements, just like this one, and that but there block elements. What will happen if we add to our in-line elements display to be displayed like a block? They will just fall down ok? I will just add background color so we can see better. And as you can see we changed to block height in the width now have a purpose and we had these white background block but if we add inline-block they will flow next to each other the flow next to each other. So the main difference between the div and in-line between the block and in-line elements is that in-line in line with text and block acts as a block and just add display in-line block or display block to change behavior of that element. So everything can be in-line and everything can be a block element by just by adding these rule display. And this is it, thank you for watching and bye-bye.

8 Inline CSS style is nothing but a element Attribute

04:54
This was yet another Aha moment .For centuries together ,i could just not figure my head about understanding the style definitions written internally .This again is not good practise and it's always better writing the style sheets and Javascript in seperate folders for the same .However ,it serves well to know how they are written lest you need to analyse a code where style's have been written internally .Like discussed in teh video ,the common attribute key here stays as style and then the attribute value like any other attribute value is within quotes where we basically define the CSS properties

Styling HTML element tags - Webflow CSS tutorial (using the Old UI)

04:00
In Webflow, HTML tags give us an easy way to control the default styling for a particular element, without creating a unique class. For example, you can define the default styles for all paragraphs by editing the All Paragraphs tag. Adding a class with styles will override these default styles. Here’s what we’ll be covering: 1. Accessing tags 2. Styling tags versus classes 3. Example 1: All H1 Headings tag 4. Example 2: All Links tag 5. Example 3: All Images tag ---------- Get started with Webflow: https://help.webflow.com/courses/getting-started http://webflow.com http://twitter.com/webflow http://facebook.com/webflow
