And for this they don't have to make great discoveries or compose symphonies. They simply do absolutely incredible things in a different way. They challenge themselves and the forces of nature to show that the human body is capable of great things. Seeing these characters in action is more interesting than any popular television series. But, like any good series, these stories are still great if you see them some time after they appear. So who are these people who have achieved the impossible?

Check out our new website for more incredible history documentaries: HD and ad-free. http://bit.ly/2O6zUsK Nelson’s Trafalgar examines the man behind the legend, his affair with Lady Hamilton – one of the great romances of history, and the dark side of a hero whose exploits were described by his contemporaries as both ‘glorious’ and ‘a stain on the national honour’. Admiral Horatio Nelson is Britain’s greatest naval hero. His determination, daring and humanity became a legend even before his overwhelming victory and death at the Battle of Trafalgar when he was elevated to the status of Godhead. Courageous, charismatic, passionate, ruthless, a true statesman – according to his admirers. Vain, self important, melancholic, irrational, a modern day suicide bomber – according to his critics. Born in Norfolk, he experienced the death of his beloved mother at the age of nine, a loss he felt for the rest of his life. He went to sea at the age of 12, was a full captain at 21 and become overall command of British Naval forces in the West Indies by the time he was 28. He was one of Britain’s first national heroes receiving much adulation wherever he went. His victory over the French at the Battle of the Nile on 1791 established him as an immortal hero and he became known as ‘Nelson of the Nile’. It was at the Battle of the Nile where he first met Lady Hamilton, who he had an affair and then an illegitimate daughter with. On returning to Britain he bought a house for himself and Lady Hamilton in Merton, which her husband ‘Sir William Hamilton’ also lived with them until his death in 1903. His victories, however did not come without injury, most famously he lost the sight of his right eye, and his right arm was amputated during battle without the use of anaesthetic. He predicted his death at Trafalgar, and had a coffin specially made. When he was shot he said ‘I believe they’ve done it at last’. He survived his horrendous wounds for three and a half hours – just long enough to learn that victory had been won. He was 47 years old. Content licensed from Digital Rights Group (DRG). The boat insurance people who share your passion…http://www.boatinsure.co.uk http://www.boat-zone.com/mbm Great Motorboat Tour adventurer John Boyle is an underwater film maker for National Geographic - so this compendium of the best encounters with the wildlife they met around our shores is a 'must watch' episode. John nominates the Farne Islands as his standout location - simply because of the amount of wildlife and the fact that you can get so close to it. But there's so much more to enjoy - from brilliant underwater footage of fish, sea ferns and corals to seals, dolphins and sharks as well as just some of over 180 different species of bird that can be seen around our wonderful coastline. Sponsored by leading boat insurance specialists Haven Knox-Johnston (http://www.boatinsure.co.uk) For Full Video Transcript: 31/32 – Close-up on Britain’s brilliant sea life Sponsored by Haven Knox-Johnston, the boat insurance specialist. Before setting out on our trip, the last thing I’d expected was the amount and diversity of coastal wildlife that we would see. We were amazed and surprised by the concentrations of birds on remote rocks and headlands. Healthy colonies of seals and memorable encounters with intriguing sea creatures. Valerie Galpin started the Manx Whale & Dolphin Group many years ago and has been studying closely the Isle of Man population of up to 200 Risso’s dolphins. Many of the pod had, in her words, “gone missing”, around the time we spotted these off Kinlochbervie. The clips from our film that I sent her may prove that these were members of the Manx population, taking an early season holiday in the North. The Rissos were one of three different species of dolphins that we saw on our trip. On several occasions we encountered small groups of bottlenose dolphin, and occasionally we came across large pods of common dolphins. And no-one could forget Fungi, the friendly lone male dolphin that made his home in Dingle almost thirty years ago, and who has unknowingly made a huge Fungi-watching industry. Gannets are one of the UK’s seabirds that seem to be thriving. Between March and September, Britain is in fact home to nearly 70% of the world’s breeding gannet population. The colony on Skellig is one of the most spectacular, with around 30,000 nesting pairs at the height of the season. As an underwater filmmaker, I regretted not having time to stop and dive in some of the unique locations that we passed through. I’d recommend anyone to at least put on a snorkel, and check the amazing underwater life around our coasts. Basking shark are the second biggest fish in the planet’s oceans. 2011 was a bad year for spotting basking shark – we only saw one small one in the whole of our trip. I later learnt that this was because the plankton layers on which they feed were deeper than usual. These shark are year-round residents of our coast, and are usually easy to spot in the early summer months. The chance of snorkelling with them is an unforgettable experience. It’s also surprising how often you come across whales when at sea. This was a Giant Fin Whale that we spotted in Falmouth Bay later in the season. Many cliffs and sea stacks were crammed with birdlife. But the Farne Islands where, for me, a highlight of the trip. Not only because of the massive concentrations of birds, but also how close you could get to them. Sponsored by Haven Knox-Johnston, the boat insurance specialist.

UK to send new aircraft carrier loaded with F35 jets into South China Sea The United Kingdom will deploy its new aircraft carrier, loaded with two squadrons of F-35 aircraft into the politically-fraught South China Sea. British Defense Minister Gavin Williamson confirmed in a speech that the Royal Navy’s HMS Queen Elizabeth will sail into waters that are the subject of dispute between China and other nations. At an address given to the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London, Williamson said Britain was the second largest investor in the region and it must display “hard power” and “lethality” to help protect interests. The £3 billion ($3.9 billion) carrier’s outing will also sail into the Middle East and Mediterranean and will be officially a mixed U.K./U.S. deployment. “Significantly British and American F-35s will be embedded in the carrier’s air wing. Enhancing the reach and lethality of our forces (and) reinforcing the fact that United States remains the very closest of partners,” Williamson said. The U.K. defense minister did not confirm exact dates for the mission. China has laid claim to almost all of the strategic South China Sea which is viewed as important for shipping lanes and potential resources. United States destroyers USS Spruance and USS Preble sailed close to the Spratly Islands, territory disputed by China and the Philippines. China claimed that the ships entered without official permission but a spokesman for the US Navy’s 7th Fleet told CNN that the operation was to “challenge excessive maritime claims and preserve access to the waterways as governed by international law.” China is in the process of developing its own aircraft carrier capability, with currently only one considered combat-ready. According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) the country could have as many as 6 carriers by the 2030s. Source www.cnbc.com

Excerpt courtesy of Yorkshire Film Archive This is a wonderful amateur film of family days out at various seaside resorts on the east coast of Yorkshire, Blackpool, Southport and Skegness, filmed in Kodachrome in 1956. All the joys that made these resorts such great attractions in the post-war period are on display, from paddling in the sea to puppet shows on the beach; and showing that rides for children don’t have to be of the giant theme park variety to be great fun. This film is one of over sixty films made by amateur filmmaker Fred Brackenbury between 1948 and 1966. Fred was a member of Harrogate Cine Club, and made all the films with a 16 mm cine camera, virtually all in Kodachrome. He made films for Harrogate Council, and other documentaries on Yorkshire, some with a separate soundtrack with commentaries by his wife, Nora. They also had a love of flowers, hence their visit to the Southport Flower Show, which has been running since 1924, and continues to this day. Yorkshire Film Archive collects, preserves, and shows film made in, or about Yorkshire. Our collections are non-fiction, dating from the 1890s to the present day, and providing a rich and visually compelling record of all aspects of lives, cultures, landscape, industries, major events and everyday activities, many of which are available to watch, free of charge, on our website. South china sea : Britain’s planned naval base seen as ‘muscle-flexing’ against China SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Britain’s plan to build a new military base in Southeast Asia is likely to further complicate the strategic landscape in a region already fraught with maritime disputes and geopolitical rivalry between Beijing and Washington, Chinese analysts warn. The plan was unveiled by British defence secretary Gavin Williamson during an interview with The Sunday Telegraph this week, with possible sites including Singapore and Brunei. If it goes ahead, the move could cast a shadow over China’s relations with its Asian neighbours and would risk further inflaming tensions between Beijing and London after a British warship sailed close to the disputed Paracel Islands in the South China Sea, according to the experts. “It is clearly a muscle-flexing gesture targeting China and shows closer engagement of external powers in the South China Sea disputes,” said Xu Liping, a professor at the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Williamson said Britain would open two new military bases in “a couple of years”, including one in the Caribbean, saying it would help the country to return as a “true global player” after Brexit. “This is our biggest moment as a nation since the end of the second world w.ar, when we can recast ourselves in a different way, we can actually play the role on the world stage that the world expects us to play,” he was quoted as saying. British companies in China optimistic about Brexit’s effect The move marks a policy shift from Britain’s withdrawal from military bases in Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf in the 1960s. Ni Lexiong, a naval expert at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, also said the plan was more evidence of Britain and other key American allies increasingly aligning themselves with US President Donald Trump’s hardline approach on China. “It is a complementary step to Washington’s Indo-Pacific... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because vicious political infighting between the Tory and Whig politic parties made it difficult to pass new tax laws, Harley turned to a private financier named John Blunt to help find enough money for England to keep up with its expenses for the year. Using Harley's government resources, Blunt instigated a series of get-rich schemes that drove artificial demand for unsustainable land and lottery investments with tremendous short term gains. Before the year was done, Blunt had successfully covered the shortfall for the government that year - albeit at the cost of driving England's already outrageous debt even higher. ___________ Get the intro music here! http://bit.ly/1EQA5N7 *Music by Demetori: http://bit.ly/1AaJG4H Listen to the outro music here! http://bit.ly/1ERCS9G __________ Extra History - Warring States Japan: Sengoku Jidai Chapter 1: Battle of Okehazama: http://bit.ly/1xgZxfi James Recommends - City Building Games Across the Ages Anno Series (Dawn of Discovery): http://bit.ly/18mJxPg

Britain to Send Gunboat into South China Sea BRITAIN is sending a warship through the South China Sea Mr Williamson said HMS Sutherland would sail through the area on its return from Australia, where it was headed after leaving the US military base in the Chagos Islands, whose residents were told recently by a British court they could never return. He told The Australian newspaper that the gunboat’s voyage would make “it clear our navy has a right” to sail through the South China Sea. Source : https://goo.gl/GTmWjR

The United Nations has ruled that Britain must give up the strategically vital Chagos Archipelago, and Bible prophecy shows that it will likely do so soon.

Britain's Foreign Minister Boris Johnson and Defence Minister Michael Fallon have said the country plans to send their two new aircraft carriers to the disputed South China Sea, a move likely to anger Beijing. On an official visit to Australia, Johnson said on July 27 that sailing through the Straits of Malacca would be one of the carriers's first missions, and that all parties should "respect freedom of navigation and international law".

The South Sea Bubble is one of the oldest asset bubbles out there and the first ever documented market manipulation example. At first it seemed that the newly formed South Sea Company might put an end to Great Britain's debt problems and Robert Harley, the man in charge of Great Britain's finances, was extremely excited. The South Sea Bubble was possible because people fell for the lies John Blunt fed them about the profitability and potential of the South Sea Company. In reality however, the South Sea Company was anything but a good business and as such, the South Sea Company Asset Bubble ended up leaving a lot of people bitterly disappointed. Just like all other asset bubbles, the South Sea Bubble represents a fascinating lesson when it comes not only to economics but also human nature. When Parliament initially balks at transferring responsibility for that much money to Blunt's insolvent South Sea Company, he bribes them with special deals on his own stock. Despite a legal clause that should have locked the stock price until the company began paying off the debt, Blunt keeps introducing new plans to inflate the stock price and pocket the money for himself. He does everything from selling stocks on layaway to loaning people money so they could buy more stocks from him, creating an artificial demand for South Sea Company stock that drives the company's worth up to 300 million pounds: a staggering ten times the initial value of the already stunning debt it had assumed. His success, founded entirely on speculation with no actual revenue from trade, not only starves out other businesses across Britain but exceeds the total amount of money in the country's entire economy. The state-run China Daily newspaper has said a showdown between the British and Chinese navies in the disputed South China Sea could derail the two nations' trading relationship after Brexit. Business Insider reports that according to Reuters, the incident saw a British warship, HMS Albion, sail through waters claimed by China close to Chinese-occupied territories in the Paracel Islands. The incident happened in late August. The Chinese navy instructed the British vessel to leave the area. The situation did not escalate further. The episode caused outrage from Beijing. It accused the UK of violating international law. https://www.businessinsider.com/uk-china-post-brexit-relationship-threatened-by-south-china-sea-showdown-2018-9 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Reuters reports that the United States and Britain held their first joint drills in the South China Sea since Beijing built island bases in the disputed waters. According to a US Navy press release, the Arleigh-Burke guided missile destroyer USS McCampbell and the Royal Navy Type 23 frigate HMS Argyll conducted joint operations in the South China Sea from January 11 to 16. The two vessels reportedly carried out communication drills, combined maneuvers, and personnel exchange during the week ‘to address common maritime security priorities.’ The USS McCampbell is based in Japan, while the HMS Argyll is on a tour of Asia. According to a U.S. Navy spokesman, such drills have not been conducted in the South China Sea since at least 2010. RUNDOWN SHOWS: 1. According to a U.S. Navy spokesman, such drills have not been conducted in the South China Sea since at least 2010.” “CNN reports that the move is expected to antagonize China, which lays claim to the entire area based on a nebulous nine-dash line.” “This claim is contested by the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan, who all have overlapping territorial claims based on geographical proximity.” “The U.S. regularly holds freedom of navigation operations to challenge China’s excessive maritime claims, such as when the USS McCampbell sailed within 12 nautical miles of the Paracel Islands earlier this month.” “The British warship HMS Albion also sailed close to the Paracels last August, prompting Beijing to accuse London of engaging in ‘provocation.’” “In both instances, China responded to what they perceive as hostile gestures by deploying aircrafts and ships to challenge the vessels.” “Chinese state media CCTV reported on January 8 that DF-26 ballistic missiles capable of targeting medium and large ships have been deployed to the northwest plateau.” “According to the Japan Times, the UK-US joint drill also comes on the heels of a trilateral anti-submarine warfare exercise on December 21 to 22, involving a U.S. navy submarine, the Royal Navy’s HMS Argyll, and Japan’s JS Izumo helicopter destroyer.” SOURCES: U.S. Navy, Royal Navy, CNN, Reuters, Japan Times https://www.cpf.navy.mil/news.aspx/130413?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_content=100000433432418&utm_campaign=Misc https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-latest-activity/news/2019/january/16/190116-argylls-us-link-up-south-china-sea https://edition.cnn.com/2019/01/16/asia/uk-us-south-china-sea-intl/index.html https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-usa-britain-southchinasea/u-s-uk-conduct-first-joint-drills-in-contested-south-china-sea-idUKKCN1PA0PJ https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2019/01/16/asia-pacific/u-s-british-navies-conduct-first-joint-military-exercises-disputed-south-china-sea/#.XD_ra88za8o ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health.
