How the autobiography of a Muslim slave is challenging an American narrative

04:56
Omar Ibn Said was 37 years old when he was taken from his West African home and transported to Charleston, South Carolina, as a slave in the 1800s. Now, his one-of-a-kind autobiographical manuscript has been translated from its original Arabic and housed at the Library of Congress, where it “annihilates” the conventional narrative of African slaves as uneducated and uncultured. Slaves To Gold: How Women Escape Rape in DRC (2013)

The High Price of Gold (2013): For women in the DRC, gold is not glamorous. It enslaves them. Driven from their land, they work in mines as slaves in a desperate bid to protect themselves from rape. "They came into houses and raped and killed children. They raped my two-year-old daughter," recounts Irene, who is now living in the UK. Since 1997, various militias have been fighting for Congo's vast mineral wealth in a bitter conflict for which women are largely paying the price. "Women are the biggest victim because they are raped every single day." Forced to work at gold and other mines in conditions of slavery, women are caught in the crossfire of competing militias who launder the minerals and smuggle them out of the region to be processed for manufacture by 'respectable' corporations. Despite the vast wealth generated by their work they eke out a meagre existence, sometimes being paid nothing at all. Meanwhile the rapes continue. With companies still not required to say where the minerals they use originate from, no one is taking responsibility. "They have to stop what is happening there. No one should suffer like that." The Slavery Detective of the South

21:42
Slavery might have ended on paper after the Civil War, but many white landowners did everything they could to exploit newly freed slaves well into the 20th century. Thousands of black laborers across the South were forced to work against their will as late as the 1960s—a new form of enslavement that went on in the shadows of rural America. VICE's Akil Gibbons traveled to Louisiana to meet genealogist Antoinette Harrell, the “slavery detective of the South," who tracks down cases of modern-day slavery and abusive labor practices. They talk to a man whose family was held on a plantation against their will into the 1950s, and Antoinette explains how she uses decades-old records to uncover how slavery was perpetuated long after the Civil War ended. Finca decries the selling of black Africans as slaves in Libya

01:13
IEC Commissioner Reverend Bongani Finca has decried the selling of black Africans as slaves in Libya. Finca is speaking in a dialogue hosted by the Nelson Mandela museum in Mthatha as it prepares for the fourth anniversary commemoration of the passing of Madiba. Finca says Madiba would be disappointed that a country that has played a huge role in the liberation of the whole of Africa, is facing a disaster of this nature. He says Madiba's values are not relevant to South Africa only, but the continent of Africa at large. For more news, visit: http://www.sabc.co.za/news

Lord Jamar: Native Americans are Really Africans, America Built by Slaves

18:32
Lord Jamar shared his thoughts on slavery and Native Americans during a recent interview with VladTV, and the New York rapper said that there is substantial evidence to support that Africans are what we now think of as Native Americans. He explained that he has read about early settlers lying to unknowing younger generations about how they took from Africa and making them believe that they weren't born in America. The conversation also brought up evolution and skin color, which Lord Jamar believes starts with the mind, not geographic location. He also disagreed with evolution, as he told DJ Vlad that Black people were in Europe long before white people. To hear more of what Lord Jamar had to say, including his thoughts on Michelle Obama referencing the White House being built by slaves, hit the above clip.

Slaves - Trailer

10:20
Think slavery is a thing of the past? Think again. In the African state of Niger, an estimated 870,000 people are born into slavery. They spend their entire lives belonging to a master, who can beat, rape or sell them at will. Despite being technically illegal, slavery is so engrained in the national psyche that a government spokesman praises it as a "cultural tradition". But in the world's second poorest country, casting off the shackles of slavery and finding a job is unthinkable for many. Slavery - Crash Course US History #13

14:25
In which John Green teaches you about America's "peculiar institution," slavery. I wouldn't really call it peculiar. I'd lean more toward horrifying and depressing institution, but nobody asked me. John will talk about what life was like for a slave in the 19th century United States, and how slaves resisted oppression, to the degree that was possible. We'll hear about cotton plantations, violent punishment of slaves, day to day slave life, and slave rebellions. Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, and Whipped Peter all make an appearance. Slavery as an institution is arguably the darkest part of America's history, and we're still dealing with its aftermath 150 years after it ended. SUDAN: INTERNATIONAL CHARITY FIGHTS TO FREE SLAVES

04:12
Arab/Eng/Ger/Nat An international charity is fighting to free thousands of slaves captured from their homes in southern Sudan, who have been taken into the north by the Sudanese government's Popular Defence Force. Christian Solidarity International raises money to buy the freedom of young slave boys and girls who are forcibly taken from their southern village homes into the Islamic north where many never see their families again. Raiding parties believed to be conducted by the Popular Defence Force (P-D-F), the northern government militia, are still attacking vulnerable villages in the south, which is locked in an ongoing civil war with the north. The C-S-I is active across the world especially in areas of conflict and one of the foremost agencies which is trying to focus international attention on the slave trade in Sudan. Walking to freedom after years of enslavement, these youngsters are only a handful of the lucky few whose freedom was purchased by the Swiss based charity, Christian Solidarity International. In most parts of the world slavery and the slave trade have been consigned to the pages of history, but in the Sudan, slavery for some is a living reality. Northern Sudanese Arab groups still continue to raid southern Sudanese villages to capture people who are then sold as slaves in the north. It is believed Sudan's Popular Defence Force is the main culprit, raiding the villages and kidnapping women and children. And slaves' testimonies reveal a consistent pattern of beatings, sexual abuse, forced Islamisation and denial of sufficient food and shelter. Most will never see their families and homes again, but these youngsters are some of the fortunate ones who will get a chance to try and put their ordeal behind them and start afresh back home. C-S-I believes there are thousands of slaves in the north and only a handful get brought back to the southern region where the charity is able to purchase their freedom from slave trading middle men. These slave traders, like Ahmed El-Noor Bashir (assumed name), take great risks in buying up groups of slaves and bringing them back to the south because they know they can make money selling them back. Once back, a rate is agreed between the charity and the slave trader. Also present, is a rebel government representative of the (S-P-L-A) Sudan People's Liberation Army - a faction which has been battling the north for autonomy in one of Africa's longest on-going civil wars. The south is the stronghold of the S-P-L-A and the C-S-I need their backing in order to operate here. The cost of buying each individual's freedom is one hundred U-S dollars. The slave trader will probably have bought each slave for around 60 U-S dollars. One young girl whose nightmare came to an end was 13 year-old Akuac. She had been enslaved for six years and despaired of ever seeing her home and family again. She talked about the horror of her ordeal in slavery which included being circumsized and beaten. SOUNDBITE: (Dinka) "The master said if you are not circumcised, I will kill you because you are still holding the ideas of your people and may try to escape back to them." SUPER CAPTION: Akuac Malong (Dinka), Freed Slave Many of the other slaves had similar stories to tell, but now they at least can try to put the experience behind them. Ahmed El-Noor Bashir (assumed name) said he believed he was acting in the interests of humanity by selling the slaves back. He is half Dinka - the local people - and half Arab, but needs to make a living. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) "To others it may seem that 6,600,000 Sudanese Pounds (13-thousand U-S dollars) is a lot of money, but it's nothing in the face of human costs. I do this for humanitarian reasons." One building will be renamed Isaac Hawkins Hall in honor of the first person listed in documents related to the sale. Another will bear the name of Anne Marie Becraft, a free woman of color who taught Catholic black girls in what was then the town of Georgetown. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory. Deadliest Journeyq - Nigeria: Slaves of the Black Gold

48:27
Hidden deep in the mangrove swamps of the Niger Delta lie hundreds of illegal refineries, “cooking spots”. It’s the stronghold of hostage takers and armed groups. For some ten years these men have been spreading terror in the region. Few cameras have been able to penetrate the closed worlds of these oil thieves. For one month?with the assistance of one of their number?we managed to film the everyday existence of the traffickers. On the one side, Nigeria. An extremely unstable region with economic and political stakes on a global scale. It’s the biggest oil producer in Africa and one of the ten biggest producers in the world. 95% of its revenues derive from this “black gold” On the other side, Western countries, major consumers of fuel, for whom oil is indispensible. Between the two, the inhabitants of the Niger Delta, cast aside from this manna and the enormous profits generated by the “black gold”. Driven by a sense of dispossession, they engage in increasing armed action to deviate a part of the oil production. Nicknamed “Bonny Light”, it’s one of the purest crude oils in the world. It is so pure, they say, that you could run an engine with it without any refining… exactly as it is extracted. However, the robbers of the Delta still have to refine it. They put the “crude” into drums that have been cut in half, heat it and sprinkle it with chemical products. It’s a dangerous operation. It can explode at any moment. So that their clothing doesn’t catch fire and turn them into human torches, the traffickers work naked, in a choking atmosphere, without the slightest protection. They have no other choice. To survive, they must take risks. Once refined, the fuel is put into buckets before being transferred into cans. It is then refined by traditional methods and distributed on the parallel markets of neighbouring countries. This “black gold” road passes via Cameroon, Benin, Togo and Ghana. However, in the Delta, oil is above all a plague. The water is filthy. The earth, fields and forests are polluted. Here, oil is a curse. All the villagers live below the poverty line. In the village of Okrika there is no drinking water or electricity. So, in order to survive, most of the farmers have a strange occupation. They fish for sand. Such is the case of Daniel, 55, who in order to feed his family tirelessly scours the beds of rivers for sand. It’s an unthinkable job, harsh and exhausting, for this new Nigerian slave. Every day, and sometimes at night too, and totally naked, he dives to depths of 5 metres to fill his buckets with sand. When his boat is full, he has to deliver it far away, at the mouth of the river. Once his boat has been unloaded, he must start his labours all over again. Once the oil has been stolen and refined, it has to be delivered. Neighbouring Benin is a major consumer. In the south of the country, along the border, oil trafficking is a real industry that supplies 70% of national consumption. Every day, 25 year-old Antoine risks his life to transport stolen oil on his motorbike. A real “bomb on wheels”, he carries more than 700 litres of oil on each trip, with the sole protection of the Voodoo gods!

Muhammad: The White Prophet with Black Slaves (David Wood)

09:51
Western Muslims are shocked to learn that Muhammad was a white man who bought, owned, sold, and traded black African slaves! Many people who don't read the Muslim sources assume that Muhammad, the self-proclaimed prophet of Islam, was dark-skinned. This myth has been spread both by orthodox Muslim preachers trying to deceive Western listeners and by racist cults such as the Nation of Islam (and its early activists, such as Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X, and Muhammad Ali). However, according to Islam's most trusted sources, Muhammad was white. These same sources show that Muhammad also owned black slaves. How can we reconcile these facts with the spread of Islam among African-Americans in recent decades? Perhaps we should ask Louis Farrakhan! David Wood discusses the issue. Black Slave Owner and Breeder in South Carolina ~ The Interesting Story of William Ellison

04:38
https://www.facebook.com/hiddencolumbia/videos/10150197461001481/ ....William Ellison was one of the wealthiest men in the South as well as being a black, former slave. He owned cotton gins, plantations, and 68 slaves. And from accounts of the time, he wasn't very nice...At the peak of slavery in the United States, large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large. In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to the U.S. census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some 8 million of them lived in the slaveholding states. The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves. Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the country (or 4.8 % of southern whites owning one or more slaves, however, around 30% for free blacks owned slaves). In the rare instances when the ownership of slaves by free Negroes is acknowledged in the history books, justification centers on the claim that black slave masters were simply individuals who purchased the freedom of a spouse or child from a white slaveholder and had been unable to legally manumit them. Although this did indeed happen at times, it is a misrepresentation of the majority of instances, one which is debunked by records of the period on blacks who owned slaves. These include individuals such as Justus Angel and Mistress L. Horry, of Colleton District, South Carolina, who each owned 84 slaves in 1830. In fact, in 1830 a fourth of the free Negro slave masters in South Carolina owned 10 or more slaves; eight owning 30 or more.

Nigerian Girls Scattered Abroad As Sex Slaves

03:06
Funding, weak legislation and poor law enforcement are some of the issues hindering the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria. A new report by the United States Department of State revealed that while the Nigerian government has made efforts in eliminating trafficking in persons, there were a number of standards yet to be complied with. The report says "In 2012, a total number of 60 girls aged 16-25 were rescued from slave masters in Ghana and Ivory Coast. While in 2011, 104 Nigerian girls used as sex slaves were evacuated from Mali where they were paid as little as 500 CFAs, that's N150 for sex". In the just released 2013 US Department of State Trafficking in Persons Report, Nigeria remained in tier 2 status because the "government of Nigeria does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking". Channels Television correspondent, Doris Okenwa examines the trend of trafficking of young ladies as sex slaves. For more information log on to www.channelstv.com.

The Islamic View of Black Slaves: Islam and Slavery in the Hadith

03:53
While Western preachers of Islam insist that Islam is a religion of freedom and racial equality, the Muslim sources tell a very different story. Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, bought, owned, sold, and traded black African slaves, and his followers institutionalized African slavery long before countries like the United States even existed. Consider a sahih hadith. In Sunan an-Nasai 4625, we read: **It was narrated that Jabir said: “A slave came and gave his pledge to the Messenger of Allah to emigrate, and the Prophet did not realize that he was a slave. Then his master came looking for him. The Prophet said: ‘Sell him to me.’ So he bought him for two black slaves, then he did not accept the pledge of anyone after that until he had asked: ‘Is he a slave?’”** Disturbingly, the heading of this hadith describes the content as: "Selling Animals for Animals of Different Amounts or Quality." Hence, Muslim sources describe trading slaves as trading animals. What else can we learn from this hadith? David Wood discusses the issue. Slaves of Dubai

Most people know Dubai for its massive skyscrapers and luxurious hotels, but few know that the city was built by modern-day slaves. -- For months, the BBC's Ben Anderson hung out around the glittering, insane towers springing up in Dubai trying to infiltrate the community of expatriate workers who are putting them up. What he found when he finally got in was that the jewel of the Arab world is almost entirely built upon imported slave labor. The Horrible Life of an Average Roman Empire Slave

08:54
Whatever you need a website for, create yours today with Wix: https://www.wix.com/go/infographics2019 What was life like for Roman slaves? Let's look at this historic era of ancient Rome and see how they treated their people. Slaves in ancient Rome weren’t all laborers working hard under the hot sun as some wicked slave driver stood behind them with a whip in his hand. Many of the slaves were domestic servants, some were skilled artisans, others were even said to be highly educated physicians. The ones who did generally have a very hard life were those that were doing their time as property of a Roman as a punishment. Life for these people was brutal and often very short. For that reason there were sometimes slave revolts, with the one you all probably know about being led by the slave Spartacus. This former gladiator and military leader took part in what are now called The Servile Wars. But what about the average joe slaves? So, as Roman slaves lived such diverse lives, let’s start with the great Spartacus. The Greek writer Plutarch tells us that Spartacus was “a Thracian by birth, who had once served as a soldier with the Romans, but had since been a prisoner and sold for a gladiator.” If he was indeed Thracian, that would mean he came from what we now called Bulgaria, or possibly Greece or Turkey. While sources differ, it’s said that Spartacus was first captured by Roman legions and then trained in gladiatorial school. If you’ve seen our show on what sometimes went down in the Roman Coliseum, you’ll know that gladiators didn’t exactly have an easy life. What do we know about the schools? Well, these prisoners of war were kept often two to a cell. They were in fact in prison, but each day they would train outside of their cells in an arena. Gladiators had different kinds of skills and training methods, and Thracian gladiators practiced in the art of swordsmanship. National Geographic tells us that the slaves were not allowed out of the fortress unless being taken to the coliseum or another arena. But while the cells were not exactly a great place to live, it’s said there were heated floors for winter, baths, an infirmary, and the slaves lived in confines that were equipped with plumbing. Historians say these gladiators were highly valued slaves, and so they were kept in good condition so they could fight well. These slaves, we are told, would not usually die or even be treated too badly in their prison. They occupied a 32-square-foot (3-square-meter) cell, which as we said, was probably shared with one more person. Close of posters with photographs of "New Blacks" 15. Wide interior of house where the "New Blacks" cemetery was located STORYLINE Underneath a modest house near Rio de Janeiro's port, the remains of tens of thousands of slaves have sat forgotten for centuries after being dumped into a common grave. But this week African-Brazilian religious leaders are giving the slaves the semblance of a proper burial. The bodies of the slaves who died shortly after arriving from their horrific sea journey from Africa were thrown into a fetid, open-air cemetery, often chopped up and mixed with trash. On Wednesday, a museum built around the remains, known as the "cemetery of new blacks", was opened to the public as a reminder of Brazil's tragic past and hopes for the future. Afro-Brazilian spiritual leader Edelzuita Lourdes de Santos Oliveira, or Mother Edelzuita, blessed the bones of the around 20-thousand men, women and children interred beneath the museum. "The time has now arrived for everyone to be aware and give value to our ancestors," she said. Visitors to the museum are able to view the remains through glass pyramids placed over exposed ground. The remains were discovered by accident, when a couple bought the property in 1996 and started refurbishing it. Owner Ana de la Merced Guimaraes and her husband Petrucio, have been instrumental in promoting research about the find and bringing attention to the remains. The cemetery was part of what was once the busiest slave-trading complex in the Americas. Up to a million men and women first stepped onto the New World here and were then held in some 50 warehouses nearby until their sale. Many of the slaves died before being sold, weakened by the cross-Atlantic trip, and their bodies were buried in the cemetery of new blacks, which operated in Rio between 1769 and 1830, though it was closer to a dump than a cemetery. Bodies of such "new blacks," called that because they had just arrived, were thrown into mass graves, burned, and their bones chopped up to make room for more. Plantation Slaves - MGTOW

11:02
Plantation Slaves - MGTOW MGTOW Mystery Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIT-qf-cu-k Hi Everyone Sandman Here, This video is brought to you by a donation from Adam MGTOW and here's what he has to say: "Hey Sandman, I remember you saying you were being attacked by the swirling sisterhood but that's another topic for another day. Nonetheless, I remember in an older video you mentioned you would eventually make a video on mgtow and slavery, namely how hypergamy and female nature affected and in a way promoted racism. You mentioned a theory that perhaps the promotion and propagation of slavery was a result of of white men trying to please their wives. The wives who basically established the racial hierarchy. If you could do a video on this topic it would be great. Could you also go over how black women still exhibited female nature. You could focus on the United States, but also examine other countries like Brazil with Chica da silva. Peace brother!" Well Adam MGTOW thanks for the donation and topic. I would have to say that my very first hint of a red pill came to me back in 2011 when I visited New Orleans and went to a few plantation homes outside the city. The one that really got me thinking about women and how well they were provided for and protected during the days of slavery and how I began to see them as the real masters and the white man of the house was simply their lacky keeping them living in the lap of luxury while they did absolutely nothing. So back in 2011 I was at the San Francisco plantation home in Louisiana. While visiting when I went upstairs I learned that the lady of the house had her very own mechanical toilet. Remember it was for the lady and the man of the house still had to go outside in the heat and use the outhouse. So who was the master and who was the slave? That's when I began wondering just how much privilege women had compared to men in the past. The place like many plantation homes was on two levels. Upstairs was the house where the bedrooms and all the valuable art and furniture were stored. Downstairs the whole floor was designed to be flooded as the waters of the mighty Mississippi would rise and recede. The white lady of the house wouldn't have to deal with flooding, working the land or even cooking because the slaves would bring her all the food she wanted each day. In the meantime her husband would have to manage the slaves and conduct the business of running the plantation. Sure it was great being a slave master when compared to a slave. But the top of the pyramid was reserved for his wife. She was safe from the hot sun, flood waters and work. Her food would be brought up to her into the house by slaves that were forced to whistle while carrying her food because they couldn't whistle and eat her food at the same time. 10 images licensed and paid for through BigStock.com. Women kept as slaves in London are 'traumatised'

01:45
Detective Inspector Kevin Hyland says he has "never seen anything of this magnitude before" as police rescue three women alleged to have been held against their will in a south London house Three "traumatised women" kept as slaves have been freed after spending three decades imprisoned against their will in a city home, police said. A 30-year-old British woman, a 57-year-old Irishwoman and a 69-year-old Malaysian woman are believed to have walked to their freedom from a property in south London after media coverage on forced marriages gave them the courage to contact a support charity. Two people in their 60s have been arrested at the home this morning as part of the investigation into slavery and domestic servitude, Scotland Yard confirmed. It followed a call to police last month, from a charity on behalf of one of the alleged captives, who said she had been held captive for more than 30 years.
