How to Sell at Rago Auctions with Suzanne Perrault
https://www.ragoarts.com/ The basics on how to sell at auction. "Welcome to the Rago Arts and Auctions Center. My name is Suzanne Perrault, I'm one of the partners here at Rago and co-director of the 20th and 21st century department. How can I find out what my property is worth? You can request a free estimate of value by sending us photos of your merchandise along with all necessary information. You can email these to us at [email protected] or send them in the mail. You can bring your property in person to us at Rago's. We do free walk in appraisals on most Mondays between 1:00 and 4:00. You can set up an appointment with a specialist at any time. If it's a large collection which we think we can use, our specialist will visit you anywhere you are. We'll advise you on what we would expect your pieces to bring and what the minimum selling price should be, also known as a reserve. We'll settle on the auction house's commission, too. The commission rate, a percentage held by the auction house to cover costs, depends on the size and the value of your consignment. Just so you know, Rago's does not charge an extra fee for photography and catalog and insurance. Many other auction houses do. You should know to ask about this. I'm ready to sell. What happens next? Let's say you like what you hear and you want us to be your agent at auction. We will send you a contract with all the pertinent information that we discussed, which you will sign and send back to us. Then it's on to delivery. We can arrange to have your property picked up if that's helpful. Once your property is in our hands, our insurance takes effect. Once your property arrives at Rago, it will be professionally photographed, cataloged, and safely stored until it is out for the week long preview. A month or so before the sale, a Rago specialist will put each item in order of the sale and give them a lot number. The catalog will go to press. We'll market your property with a combination of print and online ads, catalogs and promotional pieces. Our online catalogs alone reach over three million people before the sale. During the week prior to the auction, your property will be on exhibition at the auction house. On the day of the auction, hundreds of people will be bidding in person, on the phone, and on the internet. When the lot that contains your property comes up, the auctioneer will open the bidding. Once the bidding stops, your lot is sold. Buyers have up to thirty days to pay us. We pay you in forty-five days, the hammer price less your commission. Rago's is one of the top auction houses in the sale of 20th century design. We also sell post-war and traditional art, fine estates furnishings, silver, jewelry, coins, currency. We sell ethnographic materials and Asian art. We attract some wonderful property. Collectors, dealers and designers worldwide choose to bid with us. I think it's because we not only bring market expertise, but also a lot of enthusiasm and straightforwardness. We care about our clients and we want to do repeat business with them for a long time. Thank you for taking the time to hear about how to sell at the Rago Arts and Auction Center. If you have any questions about selling or buying from us, please be in touch. We look forward to hearing from you." https://www.ragoarts.com/

ASMR ~ Whispered Reading of Auto Auction Catalog
NOTE: I had a death in the family last weekend that has me pretty shaken up right now. If you have any nitpicking and/or unnecessary, not-really-constructive complaints, I'd appreciate it if you'd keep them to yourself, at least for now. Thanks. Also, if you have anyone special in your life that you've been meaning to visit, DO IT. I put it off too long in this case. Now instead of planning on a visit, I'm making arrangements to attend a funeral. I'd like to thank a very special subscriber who was kind enough to share this catalog with me! Thank you so much! :) This is a whispered reading of part of an auto auction catalog from January 2018.

From humble beginnings to million-dollar listings: Rock Island Auction Company
From its humble beginnings in an 800-square-foot garage in the mid-1990s, Rock Island Auction Company has become a premiere destination for the American gun collector and history enthusiast alike. The Illinois-based company has seen substantial growth in recent years – upgrading to an 86,000-square-foot facility and setting industry records with $63 million in annual sales – thanks in part to the tireless work effort of the employees and the family atmosphere. “You can interchange the words team and family here because we’re a family business. Nobody’s satisfied with the status quo,” said Kevin Hogan, President of RIAC. It’s apparent when you look at the growth that RIAC has undergone in the just the last few years alone. They continue to set industry standards for auction houses partially because they can sell guns, such as the finest known Winchester 1886, for world record prices but also because they are able to sell antique collectibles to the common man with reasonable requests. “We cut our teeth on $1,000 guns… It’s not for the ultra-elite, it’s for gun lovers everywhere,” Hogan said. The secret to RIAC’s success lies in their ability to produce world class photography for their catalog mixed with premiere customer service. RIAC runs two shifts of photography yearlong to keep up with their catalog production schedule. This results in nearly 200,000 photos a year! The result is a three-part catalog which meticulously details each gun, written by people who have done their research. “I do have a master’s in history, we have three others as well. I think it does put us on another level, we’re putting that scholarly research into [each gun],” said Andrew Padavich, Lead Describer at RIAC. For the serious collector pictures on paper just won’t do. Enter the preview room that would make any gun collector drool in anticipation of bidding. “It takes weeks for us to set the preview floor,” said Laurence Thompson, VP of Catalog Production. It becomes immediately apparent the painstaking labor that goes into all this when you walk in the room. The room is laid out by day and lot number in ascending order. This makes it very easy for collectors and regulars who have their eyes on specific firearms to find them quickly. At the end of the day RIAC has no plans of slowing down. They are starting to attract younger collectors who see these guns as a tangible and undervalued asset. In addition to drawing a younger crowd they are also looking to expand their current buyer base by selling used military vehicles. “We thought military vehicles would be a good niche,” Hogan said. “We know the military vehicle market is on a big upswing, stuff with American history is relatively cheap compared to [collector cars].” Whether you’re a gun collector with millions or just a history buff with an interest in guns RIAC’s premiere auctions are something to consider. The Quad Cities may not be the travel destination of choice for everyone, the guns and history are worth the visit and the customer service is what will keep you there.

Live Auction Tips and 2 Antique German Handguns
My cat just died and to take my mind off of it I went to my first ever live gun-auction. It's a good idea to research the auction and the items you're interested in prior to showing up; here are some notes: 1) the auction-house will supply a list/catalog of what they plan to sell, 2) Use this list to figure out value and upper limit of your bid - this is important so that you know when to say "no," bring your list and your notes with you! 3) It's also a good idea to find out about the auction, in this case an estate was being liquidated - the owner was ex-military and a lifelong NRA member according to his obituary, this helped in determining some of my readiness to bid, 4) Also read up on the auction-house's rule, how much do they add on as a commission, what payments do they accept, do they provide any packing materials, 5) Don't be intimidated by buyers/bidders trying to dominate the room - just follow your list of what something is worth and how much you're willing to pay, 6) Make sure to arrive early enough to inspect everything; I would also advise using the bathroom well in advance, and dressing comfortably, 7) Make sure to position yourself in the room so that you can watch other bidders - don't sit up at the front of the auction; if you've already reviewed the items you know what you're bidding on and the auctioneer will see you, 8) don't be afraid to blurt out questions or bids - about 5% of the room was doing bidding, the rest of the people were just there to watch and are just as confused as you are. I ended up getting two German guns that I believe were bring-back guns from WWII. The first is an August Stukenbrok Einbeck - essentially a Sears and Roebucks gun. August Stukenbrok Einbeck (ASTE) was, at the time, Germany's largest mail-order company. In fact in Einbeck there is a modern monument to this fact (a sculpture of a box with items pouring out of it). The guns might not even have model numbers, instead they probably had only catalog numbers. ASTE was founded in the late 1800's and flourished until its bankruptcy in 1931 during Germany's great depression and the fall of the Weimar Republic. The gun can be described as a Parlor Gun or Salon Gun. It is the type of gun made popular by French gunsmith Flobert who made home target pistols for the growing fad of indoor target shooting in homes big enough to accommodate such an activity (this started around the mid 1800's with the advent of the smokeless cartridge). Unfortunately with its age the ASTE will have trouble accepting modern 22s, subsonics should be used. The second gun was produced by Friedrich Pickert's company Arminius Waffenworks. There was some confusion since the logo and company name was taken over by Arminius of Weirauch Arms. Pickert's company existed from the late 1800's until 1945 when it shut the doors due to its region (in the "Iron Valley" of Germany known as Thuringia) being taken over by the Soviet forces at the end of WWII. A few years later the "other" Arminius company opened up and produced sub-par revolvers that were eventually prohibited from import into the USA. Pickert's guns are considered well made and Gems and Heritage of Germany. This pocket pistol is similar to a French Velo-Dog and is obviously intended for personal carry - it has a safety and as well as a concealable trigger. The auction house called this a "Unknown 22" - the only markings on it were RANDF:CAL:22-230 and DOPP:BEWEGUNG - I determined that this meant Rimfire Cartridge Caliber 22-230 and Double Action. The only indication of the manufacture was the bearded man with a winged helmet on the grips - the German warrior Arminius who fought against the Roman invaders. Apologies for all the attempts at speaking German.

Star Trek - Beyond the Final Frontier.avi
The documentary, hosted by actor Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock), follows the creation, preparation and final execution of a highly-visible live auction of Star Trek props from all five series and movies by auction house Christie's. The documentary starts with a brief overview of the Star Trek series and movies, and Nimoy then describes how Paramount Pictures decided to partner with Christie's to release and sell a multitude of valuable Star Trek props to the general public to celebrate the 40-year anniversary. Over the course of the documentary, we follow Star Trek experts Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda as they peruse a big warehouse and uncover a variety of Star Trek props ranging from models of the ships, costumes worn by cast from all series as well as other things such as weapons, tricorders and masks. Intertwined in this documentary are short sections of interviews with notable cast and crew members such as Patrick Stewart, Nichelle Nichols and Rick Berman that describe the history of Star Trek, its cultural impact and Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's vision. In the later part of the documentary, we follow how staff members of Christie's prepare the selected props, photograph them for an auction catalog, display selected pieces at a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas before they are finally being auctioned off in New York over a period of three days. The documentary ends with house-visits of a few of the high-winning bidders as they proudly show off their recently acquired items. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mele F10-PRO Built-in Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery Air Mouse + Motion Controller + Wireless Keyboard/Speaker/Mic http://goo.gl/zg64k6

Detroit, The USA's Cheapest Houses
American Roadtrip http://www.overlander.tv Watch our other Detroit videos including an interview with Pinky about urban farming http://www.overlander.tv/tag/detroit/ I interviewed Pinky Jones about MUFI, the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative. She had just bought a house in the same North End Detroit neighbourhood as the Urban Farm for $3,000. In this video she takes us for a short tour of the two story, 6 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 kitchen property. Pinky bought her house with her brother at a Detroit City Tax Auction. Detroit City has auctions of vacant homes as a result of tax lien foreclosures, in which homeowners failed to pay their property taxes and other municipal fees. Pinky and her brother are yet to get Utilities and Water connected in their new home. Pinky believes many in Detroit have trouble paying these bills and many go without heating, electricity and water, even through the harsh Michigan winter. Many Beautiful historic homes are available in Detroit for very cheap prices. Many DIYers buy houses and surrounding vacant blocks to grow urban veggie gardens. Detroit is becoming quite a hub for young artists, attracted by the cheap rents and properties, and the unique post industrial landscape. Wirral Property Auctions. Thinking of selling your Wirral Property via Auction?
Thinking of selling your Wirral Property through auction? We pay higher prices than what you would achieve if selling via a Wirral property auction. No auction fees No solicitor’s fees Cash in the bank in 14 days No waiting for an auction date Call us today 0151 652 5289 www.wirralresidentialbuyers.co.uk What Are the Disadvantages of Selling Your Home Via a Wirral property Auction? Using a Wirral property auction can be a very quick way to secure a buyer for your Wirral Property, however, it is a method of sale that does have one major drawback - the price you'll sell for! Wirral Property sellers frequently take their property to auction when they are in desperate need of a quick sale, or when the property needs work and will not sell well on the open market. Buyers know this, and will often attend an auction with the express purpose of buying a property at a bargain rate. Is Your Wirral Property the right property to try and sell via a Wirral Auction? It is important for house sellers to note that certain types of property sell better at auction, such as: Properties in need of work, thus available at a bargain. Rare / unique properties. Unusual properties that would not sell well on the open market. un-Mortgageable properties. A property auction is not the best option for a seller who has an "everyday" type home as they would stand little chance of receiving full market value. Before Selling Via a Wirral Auction - Do Your Research! If you are considering selling your Wirral property via auction, get hold of some auction catalogues, or attend a couple of Wirral property auctions. This will give you an idea of the type of property that sell well at auction, and how your property compares. The three main auction houses that sell Wirral property are. Smith & Sons Address: 51-52 Hamilton Square, Birkenhead CH41 5BN Phone: 0151 647 9272 http://www.smithandsons.net/ Venmore Address: 9 Dale St, Liverpool L2 2SH Phone: 0151 236 4400 http://www.venmoreauctions.co.uk/landing_page/index.php Sutton Kersh Address: 2 Cotton Street, Liverpool, L3 7DY Phone: 0151 207 6315 http://www.suttonkersh.co.uk/auctions-property/ How Much would it cost to sell your Wirral property via auction? Auctioning your Wirral Property can also be one of the most expensive ways to sell a property. There are no hidden costs, but an auctioneers commission currently stands at around 2% - 2.5%+VAT of the property’s value, and if your property does not sell at auction you will still have to cover the auctioneer’s costs. Costs incurred by house sellers at a property auction include auctioneer’s fees and listing costs. As well as this there will be legal expenses, as you must pay your solicitor to be present at the auction, to handle last minute details and legal queries. Remember, once the gavel (auctioneers hammer) falls on the highest bid the sale is legally binding and you may not renegotiate the sale price. Other Disadvantages of Selling via a Wirral Auction Another disadvantage voiced by many house sellers who have sold properties via auction, is that auctioning a home results in a greater invasion of privacy than other methods. With a traditional Wirral property sale, you can arrange and moderate home viewings. When auctioning a home; viewings open to the public are common, and you are obliged to allow any potential bidders to view your home, as well as any private surveyors working for the bidders. Property auctions have an element of instability in that; any property may entice a bidding war thus resulting in it auctioning off at well over market value. Inversely a home may get little interest, resulting in you selling your Wirral property for well under market value, sometimes as much as 40% below. Wirral House sellers can secure themselves against this loss by setting a reserve price (lowest bid an auctioneer will accept) however this should be chosen very carefully, as if the reserve price is set too high the property may not auction off at all. Obtain a property valuation before setting a reserve price. Top Auction Sale Tip Ensure that you place your house for sale via a Wirral auction, with an auctioneer that specialises in the sale of your particular type of property. As they will know how to get the best price for your home, and will be able to guide you through the auction process.
