The Ourang Medan In 1947 (or, 1948, according to some accounts), a disturbing distress call was picked up by two American ships at British, and Dutch listening posts in the Strait of Malacca. The message said, “All officers including captain are lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew.” This was followed by a burst of indecipherable Morse code, then a final, grim message The men at the listening posts triangulated the message and determined it came from a Dutch freighter vessel called the Ourang Medan. A conscripted American vessel named the Silver Star was dispatched on a rescue mission. The rescuers entered a living nightmare. After hailing the Ourang Medan and receiving no reply, they boarded the vessel. Corpses littered the decks, all of them with the same terrified expression and their arms reaching out as if grappling with an unseen assailant. Even the ship’s dog was, its mouth curled in a snarl. As they investigated, finding even more corpses in the boiler room, the rescuers made a strange observation. Despite it being over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the air in the lowest part of the hold was extremely cold. None of the sailors could explain the phenomenon. They also couldn’t find any damage done to the ship itself. The crew of the Silver Star decided to tow the Ourang Medan back to port. However, as soon as they finished fastening the tow line, they saw smoke boiling up from the lower decks, specifically from the Number 4 hold. The boarding party barely had time to cut the tow line and return to the Silver Star before an explosion ripped through the vessel. The explosion was so strong, it actually lifted the ship out of the water before it disappeared below the waters of the Strait of Malacca. One theory as to what happened on the Ourang Medan is that it carried some form of nerve gas that escaped, everyone and causing the explosion. It doesn’t account for the strange cold down below, however. At any rate, we will probably never know for sure what happened. 9. The Carroll A. Deering In August 1920, the Carroll A. Deering set sail from Norfolk, Virginia with an experienced captain and a crew of 10 men bound for Rio de Janeiro with a cargo of coal. Its original captain, William H. Merritt, fell ill shortly after departure and was replaced by Captain W. B. Wormell. Despite this sudden change, the ship delivered its cargo on schedule and set sail to return in December. So far so good! Captain Jacobson aboard the Cape Lookout Lightship in North Carolina sighted the vessel bound for its home port on January 29, 1921. The Carroll A. Deering hailed the lightship and reported that the ship had lost its anchors. Captain Jacobson took note, but couldn’t report it because his radio was out. He later described the crew of the Carroll A. Deering "milling around" suspiciously on the fore deck of the ship. Two days later, the schooner was seen stuck on Diamond Shoals, a treacherous stretch of water. Rough waters kept anyone from reaching the wreck until February 4, when rescuers discovered the Carroll A. Deering to be abandoned. Two lifeboats, personal belongings, key navigational equipment, some papers, and the ship’s anchors were also missing. Despite an investigation by the fledgling FBI, no trace of the crew or the ship’s logs were ever recovered. 8. The Octavius In 1761, a ship named The Octavius departed London loaded with cargo bound for China. It reached its destination and took on another load for the return trip. By then, it was 1762. The captain decided to take advantage of unusually warm weather and risk an attempt through the Northwest Passage. Even though no one had been able to navigate it successfully yet. No one saw the Octavius for thirteen years and people assumed it succumbed to the Arctic. On October 11, 1775 the whaling ship The Herald, while working in waters west of Greenland, spotted a ship drifting along. They boarded her only to find the entire crew below decks frozen solid. The captain sat at his desk in his cabin, frozen stiff with pen in hand apparently in the middle of a log entry. The ship was The Octavius. According to the last log entry, dated 1762, the captain’s chance at conquering the Northwest Passage had failed and the ship was locked in ice. From the MV Lyubov Orlova to Teignmouth Electron here are Most Mysterious Abandoned Ships . Would you sail to these destinations to check out and adventure through these abandoned places? 3 - Carrol A Deering This 5 mast schooner was built in 1911, yet sailed her final voyage only a few years later in December of 1920. When the cargo vessel filled up with coal and set sail from Brazil towards Virginia, no one knew the crew would never be seen again. In January of 1921, the ship was spotted by a lighthouse keeper, a crew member on the foredeck informed the keeper that the Deering had lost her anchors, but due to a malfunctioning radio, this message was never sent. Three days later the ship was found aground on Diamond Shoals off the coast of North Carolina. The Deering had been completely abandoned, the logs, navigation equipment and two lifeboats were missing. The kitchen appeared frozen in time, midway into preparation for the next day's meal. The US government launched an investigation but came up with nothing. Diamond Shoals is very close to Bermuda, the ship would have had to pass through the Bermuda Triangle to end up in this desolate location, causing many to speculate that some paranormal may have taken place which led to the abandonment of the Carrol A Deering. 2 - Teignmouth Electron This sailboat hit the waters in 1968, when its captain, the British businessman Donald Crowhurst attempted to win the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, the world's first ever solo round-the -world yacht race. Donald lacked experience and began having troubles within days of starting the race. Donald pulled the ship off to rest along the coast of South America and began falsifying his records, making up chart positions for where he would have been had he been in first place in the race. Donald's intention was to re-enter the race after all the other boats had gone all the way around the world and scoop up first place for himself. He kept one logbook detailing his thoughts and the other was meant to be opened once he won the prize to ensure credibility. After 243 days at sea and providing month's worth of fake records sent in to the race organisers, a message informed him that nearly everyone else had dropped out of the race and he was a shoe-in to win, however, by then his mental state had declined dramatically. Later that year, the Teignmouth Electron was found in a state of disarray, abandoned and adrift. The detailed log books outlined Donald's deceit, as well as ramblings which detailed his derailment into insanity, including instructions on attaining transcendence. Donald's body was never recovered. Leaving many to wonder, did the troubled man take his own life, or could something else have happened to him out there, along on those cold waters. 1 - Mary Celeste On December 13th in 1872, this small two-masted sailing vessel entered the New York Harbor, she had a cargo of over 1700 barrels of Alcohol. But, it became apparent quickly that something was very wrong with the ship, the boat moved irrationally, despite the captain being known for his talent as a seaman. After two hours of attempted hails with no reply, the boat was surrounded and boarded. The out of control ship was found to be abandoned, all of the ship's papers were missing except the captain's log, with the last entry being dated as November 25th, stating the ship had passed the Azores. There were no signs of violence or struggle, though it was noted several times that the ship appeared to have been vacated in a substantial hurry. A six-month supply of food and fresh water was found stored in below decks. All of the crew's personal possessions as well as the cargo of the ship appeared untouched, after further investigation, 9 barrels of alcohol were found empty. Over the next 13 years, the Mary Celeste changed hands 17 times, with several tragic deaths, leading many to whisper that this ship was cursed. No one ever heard from the original crew again.

From strange and mysterious cruise ships, to the biggest oil tankers in the world; these are 10 GIANT Abandoned Ships ! HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat ! 5.Temple Hall Finding information on this shipwreck was harder than I thought ! Built in 1954, the Temple Hall changed many owners during its years of operation. On a voyage from San Pedro to Thessaloniki, the ship was stuck between a rock and a hard wave so to say. Bad weather, heavy seas, and no luck to be found, the Temple Hall, now known as the Telamon ran aground near the Canary Island, Lanzarote. It didn’t help that the maintenance record for the ship was abysmal, you can still find it at the exact same spot, some 40 years after it wrecked. 4.Zeila Shipwreck Zeila was a fishing trawler way past its prime, and its also the smallest ship on this list. Built in 1975, the trawler did its job until the late 2000s. By 2008, it was on its way to Bombay to be used as scrap metal. Unfortunately, the Zeila’s tow line snapped and the ship headed for the shore. If you follow this channel, you know my fascination with the Skeleton Coast of Namibia. Just another example of why this strange and bizarre place is worth a visit. 3.Mega One Triton With a name like that, you might expect something a bit bigger than 700 tonnes, but life aint fair kid. During Hurricane Sandy, Mega One Triton was one of the unlucky vessels that was ran aground due to the weather. Since 2012, it has become a tourist destination for those that are interested in urban exploration. This counts as urban exploration right? After all, it is RIGHT ON THE BEACH ! The local government strongly advises the public to stay away from the wreck since the ship is deteriorating very fast, but I’m not sure anyone is heeding their advice. There was plans to remove the ship from the coastline by December of last year, has it happened yet? I don’t think so. 2.Agios Dimitrios This shipwreck was also trick to find, I have some contradicting information the exact name of the ship. I found sources that listed it as MV Cornelia, and others that called it Dimitrios. So, if anyone can shed some light on the subject that would be great ! The ship was built in 1950 and its history is a bit, mysterious. Stories of smuggling cigarettes and ghosts have been circling since it wrecked in 1981. The cigarette smuggling story is much more believable, sorry ghost hunters. It goes something like this, the Dimitrios was seized at port after contraband cigarettes were found on board. Instead of paying the fines and dealing with authorities, the ship was purposefully released from the port and left to run aground, where all the evidence was set on fire. What do you think? Plausible? 1.Ocean Dream I have been WAITING to write about this cruise ship for MONTHS now ! I finally found enough pictures to entertain you with while I haphazardly try to explain its story. Built in the 70s under the name “Spirit of London” this cruise ship enjoyed a long career in the high seas, providing comfort and entertainment for many people. But all good things must come to an end, and in February 2016, the Ocean Dream met old lady fate. Whats crazy is that the cruise ship was sold for scrap metal in 2009, but before it was destroyed, another cruise company. Turns out, those guys weren’t cool at all. They left the ship near Laem Chabang in Thailand, the cruiseliner was abandoned for over a year by crew and maintenance, it finally capsized in February of 2016. I would definitely suggest NOT booking a cruise on the Ocean Dream, even though the website is still offering it ! There is evidence that a company tried to salvage the ship, but I don’t think it's happening any time soon.

On Saturday 23 February 2013, Polair 3 were undertaking operations south of Coffs Harbour for flood relief, when they have come across an abandoned yacht located on Bongil Beach. Polair 3 landed nearby and the crew were able to board the yacht, checking for signs of life or if any person may have been aboard. The crew were able to establish that no person was onboard the yacht, and the investigation of how the vessel came to be on Bongil Beach swung into action. The yacht, bearing the markings 'WINDIGO' was abandoned at sea in November 2012. The two occupants of the vessel were rescued from the 'WINDIGO' after the vessel capsized in heavy seas. The rescue operation involved assets of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, Royal New Zealand Navy and a French Naval vessel. The Polair crew were astounded to learn that 'WINDIGO', after capsizing in heavy seas, was abandoned 435nm south-west of Tonga, and 738nm north of New Zealand. The vessel has been drifting since November 2012, and has eventually come to rest on Bongil Beach. Det Supt Mark Noakes, Commander of Polair said, "Polair has been in contact with the owners of 'WINDIGO', and they are now making plans to travel from New Zealand to retrieve their yacht. The crew of Polair are happy to have played a part in the retrieval of 'WINDIGO', after her amazing journey across the Pacific Ocean

This 1957 " Lifeboat" type ship disaster film stars Tyrone Power, Mai Zetterling and Lloyd Nolan. A stray mine sinks a luxury liner and all but thirty or so passengers drown. There are many survivors for such a small lifeboat, so the captain decides amid protest to jettison the injured, elderly or frail passengers, including women, overboard. His reasoning is that this will save the rest. Based on a true story. I DO NOT OWN THE COPYRIGHT FOR THIS MOTION PICTURE. COPYRIGHT BELONGS TO COLUMBIA PICTURES EDIT : I guess I should be amused that one or two people ( who use fake appearing aliases like "Mike Jones' "Mike Blank', etc ) have taken it upon themselves to use the film plot as a platform for libertarian/arch conservative politics .If they are that passionate about that viewpoint, they could perhaps instead post their own videos instead of using this one as a soapbox.

The ocean is the final frontier for many people. The vast ocean that covers our planet has swallowed up so many things from planes, people, and ships. The depths of the sea have turned into a treasure trove of lost things, forever preserved underwater. Because of their massive size, ships have become some of the most valued creations by man. So when a ship is abandoned, it is usually due to some sort of disaster or tragedy. Oftentimes, ships that are abandoned are too massive and heavy to move, and they are doomed to be left where they are at. Eventually, when other ships meet the same fate in the same area, the space turns into a graveyard for abandoned ships. Shipwrecks can happen both above and under water. They are hauntingly beautiful and have become the subject of numerous books and movies, all for a purpose of capturing their mystique and being a part of a story. Abandoned ships have mysteries behind them and gaps in their timeline that are desperate to be filled. Whether there was massive death, or a pirate attack, leaving these massive vessels behind is a huge loss financially, and something that should never be taken lightly. In this video are some of the most mysterious abandoned ships. Each has their own unique story that still fascinates us to this day. Will their mysteries ever be solved? Unsolved cases of abandoned ships! Mysterious shipwrecks found in the ocean. Here are unexplained abandoned boats. Support our Patreon today: https://www.patreon.com/theywillkillyou Subscribe for new videos: http://goo.gl/SaufF4 Follow us on Instagram: @theywillkillyou Voiceover by Carl Mason: [email protected] 10 Lunatic Jure Šterk was an experienced sailor who single handedly sailed around the world between 1991 & 1994 Throughout his sailing career he crossed the Pacific Ocean once the Indian Ocean twice & the Atlantic Ocean a staggering eight times. In December 2007, when he was 70 years old, Šterk embarked on a journey around the world on his sail boat. His only form of communication was an amateur radio & the last time he checked in was on January 1st, 2009. 9 Tai Ching 21 On November 9th 2008, the Tai Ching 21, a 50 ton Taiwanese fishing vessel, was found adrift in the Pacific Ocean, near Kiribati. The last transmission from the ship had been made on October 28th. The Tai Ching 21 was empty, all 29 crew members were gone. One strange thing is that no mayday call had been put out. An area of the ocean north of Fiji, measuring around 21,000 square miles, was searched by US & New Zealand aircrafts but no trace of the ship’s captain or crew was ever found. 8 Jian Seng This 260-foot tanker was spotted by an Australian Coastwatch airplane in 2006. The vessel was drifting in the Gulf of Carpentaria, around 110 miles south-west of Weipa, Queensland. Several documents were found indicating that the tanker was called ‘Jian Seng’, although a number of identifying features, including the name had been painted over. The engines were inoperable & the boarding party was unable to restart them which lead them to the conclusion that the Jian Seng had been adrift for a very long time. 7 High Aim 6 On January 8th 2003, the High Aim 6 was discovered drifting in Australian waters, around 80 nautical miles from Rowley Shoals. The ship was sailing under an Indonesian flag & had been registered in Taiwan. No crew members were found onboard despite the fact that the ship had plenty of provisions & fuel. The High Aim 6 had been sighted five days before it was boarded. At that time the motor was functional & the ship was underway. 6 Resolven Sailors from the HMS Mallard found the Resolven merchant brig drifting at sea on August 29th 1884. They tried ignaling its crew but didn’t get a response & decided to board the ship. They found that all Resolven crew members were gone even though there were signs that the ship had recently been lived in. 5 Sea Bird The grounded Sea Bird was discovered at Easton Beach, Rhode Island in 1750 or 1760. The Sea Bird appeared to have been abandoned in sight of land. Food was laid on the table & coffee was boiling on the stove in the galley. 4 Baychimo The Baychimo became trapped in an ice pack, near the town of Barrow, Alaska. The ships cargo consisted of furs & when the crew returned to retrieve them the ship had broken free. On October 8th 1931, the vessel became mired again & some of the crew were taken by aircraft while 15 men stayed behind. They intended to wait out the winter. The Baychimo didn’t sink. It was spotted many times over the next few decades. 3 Koreas Ghost Boats Over one hundred ill-equipped small wooden boats were discovered in Japanese waters between 2013 & 2017. The only clues regarding their origin were signs written in Korean. The most troubling aspect of this discovery were the contents of the mysterious vessels. Nobody knows what happened to the sailors, who were all dressed in civilian clothing. 2 Carrol A. Deering The Carrol A. Deering became derelict in unknown circumstances on January 28th 1921 after passing a Cape Lookout lightship in North Carolina. Three days later the ship was found run aground on Diamond Shoals, off the coast of Cape Hatteras. Its crew was gone, along with their belongings, the ship’s log & navigation equipment. 1 Mary Celeste The Mary Celeste is perhaps the most famous abandoned ship in history. Since it was discovered adrift in the Atlantic Ocean, it has been the inspiration for numerous documentaries, plays, films & novels. On November 7th 1872, the Mary Celeste left New York City & set sail for Genoa, Italy, with a cargo consisting of over 1,700 barrels of alcohol. 10 people were onboard, including Captain Benjamin Spooner Briggs, his wife Sarah & their two-year-old daughter Sophia Matilda. During the course of the next two weeks, the vessel reportedly encountered harsh weather. The last log entry was marked November 25th & indicated that the Mary Celeste was approximately 9 nautical miles from the Azores Islands.

You never know where you might across some of the biggest ships while your walking along the beach. No longer with of crew of their own, some were too heavy and sunk to the bottom of the sea. Other, washed ashore after intense storms. From some of the craziest places to scuba dive, to cruise ships that kinda tipped over, here are 12 biggest abandoned ships Learn about the BIGGEST of everything Monday, Wednesday, and Friday just subscribe! 5. Costa Concordia This luxury ship had a total of 4 swimming pools and 1500 cabins. While people were preparing for a beautiful 7 day cruise from Civitavecchia, rome’s closest port, it hit a rock near Isola del giglio. This massive italian cruise ship was left with a giant gash. This ship wrecked off the coast of italy in 2012 and capsized just a few moments after making contact. There was unfortunately no possible way to save the ship from complete doom and they were forced to abandon the ship. Almost half of this massive vessel was left underwater and a year and a half later, they finally decided to scrap it for parts. 4. Mv Panagiotis The Navagio Beach, also lovingly known as “The Shipwreck Beach” lies in an enchanting pool of Ionian Sea water, and it’s been named by some as “the most beautiful beach in the world”. The wrecked ship that famously lies on it’s shore was a ship suspected of selling contraband cigarettes. It was trying to swiftly escape the Greek Navy when it crashed into a rock during bed weather in 1980. It gives it a touch of character, wouldn’t you agree?? It looks sugary sandy from above, but the beach is actually covered in pebbles. It’s the most famous beach in Greece and unfortunately, it can only be accessed by boat. If you’re looking for alone time, this isn’t the beach for you. The only way to shuttle in is to ride on a boat full of other tourists in order to make it to the cove. If you like to meet new people, then this may just be your paradise. 3. Angola Beaches There are too many big abandoned ships here to just name one. The scariest thing about Angola’s beaches is that no one knows exactly which beach is going to be the most dangerous which has led to many shipwrecks. As you’re walking along the fine sand beaches, you may encounter some big rusting ships like we see in this photo but if you’re unlucky, you may encounter some landmines. Here in this photo, we see the Praia do Santiago which has become completely rusted over. Captains in these parts have found the seas difficult to navigate, especially at night. Many surfers are impressed with Angola’s beautiful waves and 77 miles coast line but this stretch of land is slowly becoming a ship graveyard. Angola didn’t become an independent nation until 1975 and it was around this time when many boats were left abandoned. Many efforts have been made to remove the ships from beaches but they’ve become somewhat of a tourist attraction in any case. Many Portuguese ships can be found getting consumed iron ingesting microbes 2. The Duke of Lancaster The duke of Lancaster was a British passenger ship that was operational between 1956 to 1979 and is currently beached in Northeast Wales. This was one of the last British steamships to ever take the seas and commonly traveled to places like Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain. With advancements in the 1980’s there were cheaper options for cruise ships and this massive vessel just became a little too expensive to maintain. During it’s final days, it served as a ferry vessel that would transport cars and a maximum of 1800 passengers. Despite some of the paintwork beginning to rust, the Duke of Lancaster is still in decent condition and there are some discussions about turning it into a one of a kind art gallery. There’s a noticeable amount of graffiti on the ship now that it’s abandoned and seems to slowly be becoming giant piece of art Titanic This massive, infamously wrecked ship must make this list due to its sheer size. The civilian cruise liner made records when it first hit the seas, measuring in at 890 feet. This is 100 feet larger than the 2nd biggest ship at that time, known as the lusitania. It was considered to be unsinkable but you better believed they jinxed it! The captain couldn’t avoid striking a massive iceberg in the middle of the North Atlantic and the devastation was unimaginable. The glacier itself was over 100,000 years old and wasn’t going to lose the battle. Tragedy struck and 1500 people were among the victims and only 700 people lived to tell about it. The water was below freezing at 28 degrees fahrenheit. Trying to find a wrecked ship 12,500 feet below the surface of the ocean is no easy task. Various artifacts were recovered including this watching, frozen in time.

10 Mysterious Abandoned Ships! From ghost ships in the night to strange ships floating around the ocean for 40 years…stay tuned to number 1 to find out the most mysterious ship disappearances in the world! This top 10 brought to you by Zero2Hero!! Don't forget to subscribe here! https://goo.gl/NXuChu Click here to see our list of the Top 10 CRAZIEST Facts About Yellowstone! https://youtu.be/6ido-Gq_Zlg Number 10: The Lunatic PIran. There was a notion once (that sadly still persists to this day) that the Earth was flat, and thus, could be traveled by ship very easily and in a quick amount of time. After this was verily debunked, it soon became a challenge to sail all over the world. Though it's been done many times by many people, some still aspire to do it with their own twist on the tale. Such as Jure Sterk, who actually had already sailed around the world one in 1991-1994. Time went on, and Sterk grew older, but that didn't settle his love of the sea, or his desire to sail again. For at the age of 70, he decided to do one last trip around the world, and in doing so, be the oldest man to ever sail around the world without touching land. In 2007, he began his journey, and in April 0f 2009, his ship, the Lunatic PIran was found. But this is where it gets odd. For it was found on the coast of Australia, and there was no sign of Sterk. What's more, the sail of the ship was ripped up pretty bad. Examination of the boat led to the finding of Sterk's log book, which only deepened the mystery as the last entry was from January 1st of that year. What happened to Sterk that would cause him to leave the boat, yet not have the boat sink? No one knows. Number 9: Mary Celeste. Is there any greater mystery than not truly knowing what happened to a place or a people? Well, in the case of this ship, the mystery honestly goes as deep as the waters themselves. For this is the tale of the Mary Celeste, a ship from 1872 that was abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean. The ship was actually a merchant ship, so it being abandoned like it was is a bit odd in its own right. But trust me when I say that this gets weirder. So let's ask the question, "Why was it abandoned?" Was it because it was raided? And that raid led to the passing of the crew and the sinking of the ship? Well...no, that's not what happened. It did sink, yes, but all of its cargo was intact, and untouched. Adding to the mystery, there was no clue as to where the crew went, and they were never found, and thus couldn't tell their story. Still not enough for you? Well, there was apparently six months worth of provisions on board, so there's no way that it was starvation of lack of supplies that caused the crew to flee. So where the heck did they all go? No one knows. It's a true maritime mystery, one that still hasn't been solved, and likely never will be. There are many guesses of course, including some beyond the scope of what is logical. But the fact remains, the ship is there, and the crew wasn't, so what happened? Number 8: The Caleuche. Before we talk about the Caleuche, take a moment to like this video and join the Zero2Hero community by using the buttons below! Who says that all abandoned ships have to be from the realm of the living? In Chile, there is a legend about a ship called The Caleuche. This is a very special ship in numerous aspects. First of which, it arrives every night in Chilean waters, and roams them for souls. The souls of what you ask? Well, according to the stories, The Caleuche is a ferry of sorts, it looks for and finds the souls of all people who have drowned in the water, and then takes them over to the other side. Here's where the "ghost ship" aspect really comes into play. For it only stays visible for a very little while, some say even seconds, and due to this, you might catch a glimpse of it, blink, and then it's gone. Which no doubt has built up the legend of The Caleuche even more. But there's a twist, for while this may sound like a simple ghost ship, many sightings of The Caleuche have been reported. And all of them say that the ship is brightly colored, and full of lively music. Number 7: St. Patrick. The Bering Sea is known as one of the most treacherous sets of waters in the world, bar none. The show Deadliest Catch takes place there, and shows the struggles that the fisherman of the area have to go through in order to get the catch they're after. However, there are many tales of ships that have sunk in these waters, and one of the most haunting tales was of the scallop vessel the St. Patrick, and how it was abandoned.

Sometimes ships sink because of various reasons but these mysterious abandoned ships disappear without an explanation. Subscribe to World5List http://goo.gl/cpJSA6 Find us on... -- http://www.boredbadger.com -- http://www.facebook.com/world5list Most Mysterious Abandoned ships The ocean is a very large and fairly unknown part of our planet, and odd tales come from sailors about crewless boats. Coming upDisappearing crews, ghost ships, and more. Join us as we explore the most mysterious abandoned ships! World Discoverer When you set out to explore a place shrouded in myth and legend, the journey might not treat your boat so well. The aptly named World Discoverer was a giant cruise ship that first left port in 1974, and was the first ship ever to cross the Northwest Passage successfully, doing what the fabled Titanic could not. High Aim Six When a ship washes up on shore with a full cache of supplies but no crew, it’s probably going to get people talking. The High Aim Six was found eighty miles from the Rowley Shoals, near Australia, floating adrift, full of food, water, and gas… but with no one on board. Teignmouth Electron Traveling around the entire world by boat is an… ambitious goal, and doing it solo might well be described as crazy. This didn’t stop the Golden Globe Race, a British sailing competition with that goal in mind. Mary Celeste When it comes to mysteries, sometimes it’s best to trust the classics. The Mary Celeste is probably the world’s most famous abandoned ship, and its strangeness has lasted the test of time. It was found adrift in the Atlantic in 1872, and all that was missing was a lifeboat. Jian Seng It doesn’t have to be an old-timey two masted ship to be considered spooky and well, haunted. The Jian Seng was just your run of the mill oil tanker found abandoned off the coast of Australia in 2006. T.T. Zion If you want to own a personal yacht, the odds are pretty good that you’ll have to be, well, rich. But wealth doesn’t mean you won’t end up as an integral part of a mystery. The American Star Sometimes the wreck of the ship can be as magnificent as the seaworthy version. The SS America Star was built in 1940 as a beautiful, gigantic ocean liner. This ship carried several names in her lengthy career of fifty four years. SS Valencia If your ship decides to kick the bucket in it’s pretty likely it’ll end up as a mystery. The SS Valencia was an iron-hulled steamer built in 1882. Kaz II When it comes to misadventures, sometimes what happens at sea, stays at sea. The Kaz II was catamaran crewed by three men on a pleasure voyage. When it was discovered near the Great Barrier Reef, alas, there was no one aboard. Ourang Medan If the mystery is too terrifying, the best answer might be just to let it, well, blow up and sink. The Ourang Medan was a Dutch merchant ship that was floating through the Strait of Malacca in June of 1947. This wraps up our list of the most mysterious abandoned ships. What haunting sea story did you like most? What eerie shipwrecks did we miss? Let us know in the comments below.

From ships purposely sunk to create coral reefs, to shipwrecks of Spanish galleons, here are abandoned ships in the Caribbean Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 5. Abandoned Ship Turks Caicos The corals reefs are evidence that things which are beautiful, can also be deadly. Some estimate that the Turks and Caicos are home to over 1000 shipwrecks including this cargo ship known as the mega one triton. This is a recently wrecked ship that washed up ashore after hurricane sandy and has been rusting away ever since. Many consider it to be an eye sore and a possible hazard to beach goers, while others would argue that it’s kind of cool and want to stay. This is also found not too far away from the Governors residence in waterloo so it’s likely it’ll be removed one day. The beach here doesn’t get overly crowded and seems like a nice island getaway. The ship is mostly above water so you have to imagine it would be a good place for crabs or birds to take shelter. Maybe even pirates? Who knows. 4.Spanish Galleon shipwreck Found near the Dominican, this is the type of discovery archeologists dream of! About 4000 feet deep lies two shipwreck complete with cannons, musket balls as well as large amounts of wine and gin to go a long. Oh yeah and don’t forget about the quicksilver that helped spain mine for gold. Due to the depth, the ship has for the most part been completed. The wreck was discovered during an oil and gas survey, looking for the next place to build a oil rig. Most of the wood was eroded but the copper frame was still in tact, as well as the kitchen. What exactly was the ship’s origins? Some claim it might have came from pirates from Texas around time of the Texas Revolution or Mexican American War. The research will act as a time capsule from the past and give us a better understanding of the daily lives of whoever manned this boat. 3. SS Antilla The title for the largest shipwreck in the caribbean is the MS Antilla, which is found in Aruba. Once used as a german freighter ship, the crew had decided to set it ablazed to prevent the allies from seizing the goods in 1939. Their route home back to Germany was blocked by the US British at French and the dutch were sent to seize the vessel. All detainees however, were taken on a banana boat to jamaica. Today it serves as a huge scuba diving hotspot and even serves as a hawksbill turtle sanctuary. The ship went on to take more damage from a hurricane in 1953 causing it to break apart. Many feel as though the ship is no longer to safely be explored. Would you take the chance of scuba diving in a possibly dangerous shipwreck? 2. Northern Light Shipwreck Also known as the Elbow Wreck, this ship once travelled from the Great Lakes and through the mississippi river before making its final resting place in key largo florida. It was even one of the first american steam hull ships built in the late 1890’s. The large ship was about to transformed into a formidable traveller of the 7 seas in the 1900’s but the owner changed his mind. During the economic hardships of the Great Depression, they decided to set the ship ablaze and collect insurance money. However this idea would turn out to be a failure and the insurance company never paid the scammer. Today, experienced scuba divers plunge about 150 to 190 feet underwater to take a look at the broken ships. Many claim this is one of the best scuba diving spots in the Florida keys for tourists to take advantage of, but of course, it might still be dangerous. 1.Spiegel Grove Wreck The key largo community set to sink another ship, this time it was the spiegel grove, a US Navy Landing Ship Dock. This was a 510 retired ship that could be used to create an artificial ecosystem for coral and fish. It was formerly apart of the mothball fleet which were a bunch of abandoned naval ships that were being kept as surplus. The ship was relocated and during this process, it sank during a storm. Luckily, no one was injured, and it still sank in a good spot. Many scientists and biologists are excited to see the results of this potential habitat and scuba divers are lining up to drop in. There's even an american flag still attached to the top like you see in this photo.

From ghost ships and deep ocean wrecks; to forgotten airplane locations; These are 9 Strange Abandoned Ships and Planes ! HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat ! 9. Lady Be Good 8.Lyubov Orlova Lyubov Orlova was named after the famous Russian actress by the same name. Built in 1976 by the USSR she served as an expedition cruise ship, traveling around the Arctic and Antarctica often. In 2010, Lyubov Orlova was seized at St. John’s Port, Newfoundland because of accrued debts amounting to 251 thousand dollars. It stayed at that Port for the next 2 years, and when it was being towed to the Dominican Republic to be scrapped, something happened. Not even 1 day into the journey, the tow lines broke and the ship drifted away… Incredibly, she was captured again by a Transport Canada tug boat and dragged away to international waters…. Where she was cut loose. The last time Lyubov Orlova was spotted was in 2013, near the coast of Iceland and Ireland. By the way, I foolishly tried to find her on the marinetraffic website, but then I decided to check out some other ships, and as it turns out, for the LOW LOW LOW price of $157/year you can pick your favorite ship and never miss a beat !... or if for some reason you want to act like a pro and track up to 50 ships in real time, it will be $9,000 a year. What a steal haha. 7. Kee Bird 6.TSS Duke of Lancaster The TSS stands for Twin-Screw Steamship or Steamer… meaning it has two screw propellers compared to a Single Screw steamer… which has one. The More you know ! From 1955 to 1979 the ship provided services for travelers around the United Kingdom until it was forever beached near Mostyn, North Wales. At this point; The Duke of Lancaster was branded as the “Fun Ship” becoming a tourist attraction, but local politics made it almost impossible for the owners to operate the business. 5.US Navy Vought F4U Corsair airplane 4.MS World Discoverer The World Discoverer was a cruise ship that operated from 1975 to 2000. Visiting such great spots as Antarctica, Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands, the ship was loved by many… but on April 30th, 2000, the ship hit a huge uncharted rock near the Solomon Islands. All passengers were transported to safety while the Captain stayed on the ship, steering it into Roderick Bay. At that point, the ship was considered a loss… and to this day, the World Discoverer remains at the same location. It has become somewhat of a tourist destination, being visited by other cruise ships in the area…. Which is kind of unsettling. 3. Atka B-24D Liberator 2.S.S. America After its illustrious 54 year career, the S.S. America was being transported from Greece to Thailand to become a five star docked hotel ship. The journey began on New Years Eve 1993 and a few days later, during a massive storm, the tow ship Neftegaz 67 lost control of the cruise liner. The S.S. America, now renamed the American Star found its way to the coast of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands and ran aground. Within 48 hours the harsh waves of the Atlantic Ocean split the ship in 2, she was declared a total loss and left to rot. At this point, there is almost nothing left from the ship, only a distant memory. 1.Murmansk The Cruiser Murmansk was built by the Soviet Union in 1955; and it served proudly until 1989. A few years later; the Russians decided to sell the cruiser to India for scrapping; during the move the ship ran aground near the Norwegian Coast. Shortly after; this haunting picture was taken, the ship looks like its in almost perfect condition; except for you know, being almost sideways...If only someone tugged on the big chain, it might have been an easy fix… or maybe thats not how this works. Anyway, No one wanted to deal with the clean up until 2009. Thats when everyone realized that due to the extremely harsh weather; the ship would have to be dismantled piece by piece. So thats what the Scandinavian contractor AF Decom did; in style. They built a dock around the ship and emptied out the water; this picture was taken during the process, you can see it that it REALLY was a team effort ! Don’t forget to tell me what you thought about this video in the comments below; subscribe for more awesome World Unearthed and check out the video coming up next !

21 Beautiful and eerie photos of things abandoned underwater from shipwrecks to sunken cities only found by scuba diving. 9. Underwater Sculpture Park Jason de Caires Taylor gained international recognition for creating the world’s first underwater sculpture park. Located off the coast of Grenada in the Caribbean, the sculpture park is situated 25 feet below the ocean’s surface. His sculptures are used to create artificial reefs in the hopes that the interventions promote recovery and hope while highlighting the need to understand and protect our natural world. The sculptures are located in clear, shallow water so divers have easy access, while snorkelers and paddlers in glass-bottomed boats can still see the park. 8. Neptune Memorial Reef Located 3.25 miles off the coast of Key Biscayne, Florida, the Neptune Memorial Reef covers 16 acres of the ocean floor. Divers are able to visit the site located 45 feet below the ocean’s surface to visit the final resting place of their loved ones. This artificial reef attracts both human visitors and the growing sea life native to Florida’s coastline. Many reefs around the world are dying, meaning there is nowhere for the coral to grow. This memorial reef serves as a starting point for coral to develop, creating a healthy ocean. 7. New Ireland Boat Wreck Resting on her port side, the wreck of a fishing boat lies in a watery grave in New Ireland. It may be considerably smaller than some of the large ocean liners and military vessels on this list, but it is a popular diving location for those keen to explore the haunting remains. 6. Atlit Yam This ancient submerged Neolithic village is located off the coast of Atlit in Israel and is around 8 to 12 meters beneath sea level. It is estimated to be around 9000 years old. The 10-acre village features a stone circle comprising of seven megaliths weighing up to 600 kilograms each. It has been so well-preserved that it stands exactly as it was first erected. Dozens of human skeletons still lay undisturbed in their graves. Atlit Yam is one of the largest and oldest sunken villages ever found. 5. Shipwreck Aeolian Islands An archaeological team using a mini-submarine made a remarkable discovery while exploring the waters around the Aeolian Islands of Panarea, Lipari, and Pantelleria. They found a 2,000 year old sunken ship along with dozens of plates, amphorae, anchors, bowls, and a sacrificial altar. The shipwreck was found at 130 meters deep near the island of Lipari. Around the shipwreck were a large number of anchors, which suggest that the area was used as a stopping place along the ancient routes in the Aeolian archipelago. 4. Hedonistic Sunken City of the Caesars The sunken city of the Caesars, originally called Baiae, was lost for over 1,700 years under the waters of Italy’s west drift. Baiae was once a trendy resort city, but was abandoned when volcanic activity resulted in most of the city being lost to the ocean when the coastline withdrew by 400m. The city has been opened for jumpers and divers who have discovered many important features. The villas, mosaics, and sanctuaries are all still in place and are an eerie insight into the richness and abundance experienced in this territory. 3. Baltic UFO This 200 foot wide, 26 foot high object was discovered 300 feet below the Baltic, baffling oceanographers since its discovery in 2012. It is estimated to be around 140,000 years old and is made from pieces of angular metal. Some believe it is the remains of a UFO and others think it could be an anti-submarine device from WWII. This object was found when Swedish explorer, Peter Lindbergh and his team were searching for shipwrecks. Satellite and electric diving devices cut out when near the object. Sonar found drag marks behind it, proving it is not a geological formation. 2. Tar Lilies Volcano Researchers in the Gulf of Mexico made an amazing discovery while searching for a sunken ship. On the seabed, more than a mile beneath the surface, they found two rare tar volcanoes. These ocean floor vents don’t spout lava, but rather asphalt. These volcanoes erupted in the shape of a blooming flower, leading the researchers to name them tar lilies. Each tar lily measures 20 feet across and 10 feet high. Tar volcanoes were first found in 2003, and have been found along the coasts of Mexico and U.S.A. 1.Sculpture Park Jason deCaires interpretation of La Diablesse down in the depths with other underwater sculptures in the Caribbean waters of Granada. This is a representation of Grenadian folklore specifically La Diablesse, translated as “female devil”, with her signature brimmed hat. It’s beautiful but eerie with her skeletal appearance looming in the dark waters. Her lore is a warning to people, men in particular, not to fall for someone based on their looks or you might end up lost, starving, and alone.
