Could loyalty points save the world? | Mark Birkin | TEDxUniversityofLeeds

19:52
Loyalty cards are one of the many ways that data on individuals is stored and captured. The amount of data on an individual person is relatively tiny but when you look at the big picture, everyone's collective data can provide incredibly deep insights into our daily lives. It is incredibly important for researchers and city planners to be able to access this vital information whilst maintaining an individuals right to privacy to make effective decisions in the future. Professor of Spatial Analysis and Policy, his major interests are in simulating social and demographic change within cities and regions, and in understanding the impact of these changes on the need for services like housing, roads and hospitals, using techniques of microsimulation and agent based modelling. How stores track your shopping behavior | Ray Burke | TEDxIndianapolis

16:15
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Why are companies so intent on using technology to track our behavior? Our actions reveal what we desire, how we shop, and why we buy. Retailers can now learn so much more about shopper behavior than ever before, and while these “big data” applications create concerns about privacy, the detailed data can be used to design stores, product offerings and promotions that connect with our interests, speed up the shopping process, and help us find items we will buy. These new tools are critical to improving store efficiency and shoppability; and offer a vision of the future of retailing. Raymond R. Burke (Bloomington, IN USA) is the E.W. Kelley Professor of Business Administration at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, and founding director of the School’s Customer Interface Laboratory, a state-of-the-art facility for investigating how customers interact with new retail environments and technologies. His research focuses on understanding the influence of point-of-purchase factors–including new products, product packaging, pricing, promotions, assortments, and displays–on consumer shopping behavior. Dr. Burke has served on the faculties of the Harvard Business School and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. His articles have appeared in several major journals, including the Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing, and Marketing Science. 'How I stole great customer service - with pride!' | Lisa Ekström | TEDxLundUniversity

14:59
Imagine that your company's life indicator is running low. You need extra life. What if you could steal life, or rather, steal – or borrow – someone else's life hack to increase productivity and efficiency. Lisa Ekström, the founder of the Swedish company Kamoja knows how to steal. “Kamoj” means to borrow, or snitch, in Thai. By putting an “a” at the end, Lisa turned it into a Swedish verb as in borrowing an idea or a good story to take someone else’s success story – or life hack – to make yourself succeed. And that's what she did when she stole her way to excellent Customer Service at Scandinavian Airlines. Lisa Ekström has over 20 years of experience in sales management and customer relations. She also has documented experience from highly successful change management projects. In 2007 she won “Framgångsstipendiet” – a price awarded to someone that has shown documented and extraordinary leadership results in Sweden. Lisa did so when turning SAS Customer Relations into a core asset for improving the way the company went about its business. Lisa was selected Speaker of the year 2014 by P&P, and she is a very charismatic individual with vast experience that she shares in a very inspirational way. Facts are combined with anecdotes and laughter leaving no one untouched. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Is There a Buy Button Inside the Brain: Patrick Renvoise at TEDxBend

17:56
Patrick discovered the buy button inside the brain and spent two years researching and formalizing a science-based map to access that button. Neuroscience is exiting the hospitals to reach the aisles of your grocery store. Companies like Coke and Pepsi want to better understand how and why you decide to buy their products, movie makers want to know what trailer will best promote their films, and politicians want to predict what issue will make them win or lose your vote -- and they are all looking for answers inside your brain! Patrick received a Masters in Computer Science from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (Lyon, France). He is the co-author of "Neuromarketing: Understanding the buy button inside your customer's brain." He is currently serving as Chief Neuromarketing Officer of SalesBrain. Employees first, customers second | Vineet Nayar | TEDxAix

18:02
"Millions of employees walk through our organizations every day not just to get paid but to be inspired by the vision we have for them", says Vineet Nayar, former CEO of HCL Technologies and author of Harvard Business Press bestseller "Employees First, Customers Second" (EFCS) giving a compelling account of how this idea channelized the energy and passion of 100,000 employees to increase HCL's revenues and market cap over six times! In this must watch 18 minute video Vineet shares at least 8 simple ideas that can do wonders to your Employee Engagement scores and ensure happiness, passion and growth. Not surprisingly Vineet's EFCS philosophy and its execution at HCLT has been described as the "world's most modern management" by Fortune and got him a place in the magazine's first ever Fortune Global Dream-team alongside stalwarts like Steve Jobs. Vineet Nayar is the former CEO of HCL Technologies, founder of the Sampark Foundation and author of a book that is considered as a revolution in management, Employees First, Customers Second. He not only states simple philosophical principles but also applies them successfully: his company has succeeded the challenge of tripling its turnover ($4.2 billions today). Vineet Nayar has been elected best employer in Asia. His very simple idea of « management by trust » through challenging conventional management practices, was described by the American Fortune magazine as “the most modern management in the world”.He later created his charitable organization Sampark (“to be in contact” in Hindi), focused on the training of teachers. He is thus considered as the man who is resolving India’s problems. Indeed, in a country where tens of millions of children are dropping out of school, Vineet Nayar explains that he wants to “have an impact on millions of lives”. TEDxMaastricht - Simon Sinek - "First why and then trust"

17:08
Simon Sinek (@simonsinek) created a simple model, The Golden Circle, that codifies what makes the most inspiring people and organizations so successful and influential. Beginning as a student in anthropology, Simon Sinek turned his fascination with people into a career of convincing people to do what inspires them. Through his struggle to rediscover his excitement about life and work, he made some profound realizations and began helping his friends and their friends to find their "why" — at first charging just $100, person by person. Never planning to write a book, he penned Start With Why simply as a way to distribute his message. With a bold goal to help build a world in which the vast majority of people go home everyday feeling fulfilled by their work, Sinek is leading a movement to inspire people to do the things that inspire them. Now Simon takes the next step. After why comes : trust. http://www.tedxmaastricht.com What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxMaastricht, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxMaastricht event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Please take a look at this video that explains what TEDx has become: About TED TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani,Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

Enter the cult of extreme productivity | Mark Adams | TEDxHSG

18:34
In this talk Mark shares a dramatic and powerful system that takes productivity thinking to whole new and terrifying level, allowing a person to achieve almost any goal they set themselves with rapid speed. The secret to this type of exponential success? Bin your ‘affirmations’ and ‘goals’ and instead embrace fear as your friend by making irreversible decisions. Instead of hapless resolutions members of the "Lock-In" cult contract with themselves in a way that they cannot escape from (without suffering brutal consequences). The “Lock-In" system harnesses our most primal evolutionary instinct - to avoid pain - and uses it to radically supercharge our lives. Many of the most successful people in history have used its phenomenal power to create extraordinary success. Think you're hardcore enough? Then enter the Cult of Extreme Productivity Mark Adams is Vice President and Head of Innovation at VICE, which has come from humble beginnings as a print magazine to digitally transform into a 5 billion dollar youth media empire. In this talk, Mark describes the cult of extreme productivity that he became part of alongside his brother. The cult is all about making irreversible decisions that make “manifesting” your dreams the only option because not achieving it would create indescribable suffering. How I discovered the black art of cult branding | Rob Howard | TEDxStLawrenceCollege

Customer engagement is key for the success of your business and Rob elaborates on ways of reaching such engagement. Over my 20-year marketing career, I've worked with brands big and small around the world. Some have become dependent on traditional forms of marketing and are mired in mediocrity, while others emphasize engagement and succeed in forging cult followings of loyal fans and customers. 5 years ago, I set out to unlock the genetic code of the world's most coveted, cult brands. I emerged enlightened, helped found a marketing firm (Cult Collective), a think tank, a global summit (The Gathering), and wrote a book (Fix: Break the Addiction That's Killing Brands) to help enlighten others. I think emerging marketers and business leaders would find what I've discovered enlightening too.
