“Flawless” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:17
“Flawless“ from the episode “Fame and Misfortune“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S07E14). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Twilight decides to publish the Mane 6’s old Friendship Journal in an attempt to try and spread more friendship lessons across Equestria. It unfortunately doesn’t pan out quite the way she wants it to! It’s pretty interesting and neat to have an episode focused on the friendship journal again, especially so many years down the line. In addition to some fun tracks that take us through the Mane 6 going more and more insane after the book’s release, William Anderson also gives us some now older themes to bring us back. The most prominent is the full version of the “Magic of Friendship” theme, which was prominently used throughout Season 4, but hasn’t been used as much in Seasons 6 or 7. It was nice to see its reuse in a prominent moment in this episode, which centers around the book also from the fourth season. Most surprisingly, however, this episode contains another song, riding off one we heard just last week! “Flawless” is another beautiful group number for all of the Mane 6, which also features solos for each. It’s great to hear another song so quickly, even if that means we only have one more to go this season… Let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- Well, that was quick! Right on the heels of last week’s song in “The Perfect Pear,” we’re graced this week with yet another Ingram song. This one, much like the first song this season, features all of the Mane 6, with some wonderful harmonies and counter melodies, as well as solos for each. The song begins with Twilight taking the lead with the first solo, and strong acoustic guitar backed with strings. The bass enters by the second line, adding a very groovy feel to the song. A small drum fill then takes us to the first chorus, with all of the Mane 6 joining in in harmony. The hook here is incredibly catchy, helped by the off-beats on the drums and bass. Ingram and Caleb Chan add in mandolin for the chorus as well, giving it that trademark MLP sound. The strings are also used to add some nice countermelodies to the group’s vocals. The mandolin becomes prominent over the acoustic guitar as Rainbow Dash begins the next verse. Strings take a more center stage for Rarity and Applejack’s solos. The song’s energy continues to pick up into the next chous. Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Twilight take the lead for the bridge. The backing instrumentation backs off here, with the exception of some building drums, and some guitar flourishes. Some “ahhs” from the rest of the Mane 6 fill in for them. One final drum fill takes us into the final chorus. The final chorus features some absolutely beautiful counter-melody vocals from Fluttershy, and one from Pinkie Pie. They really help up the energy of the final chorus heading into the song’s end. (Watch in 1080p!) “Under Our Spell” Instrumental - MLP: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks

“Under Our Spell” (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." **DOWNLOAD LINKS BELOW** --Overall Comments-- And here it is— the second Equestria Girls movie, Rainbow Rocks! Not many people in the fandom probably wanted this, but what we received was most definitely better than the original. With improvements in just about every aspect over EQG1, this movie definitely left many wanting more. From a nice arc for Sunset Shimmer, to great comedy, to fun villains, to numerous background character shoutouts, this movie delivered in a lot of aspects. The songs and soundtrack were no exception, will Daniel Ingram and William Anderson really stepping up their game for this one! With over 10 songs, this movie was more music-packed than the original, and will leave you humming the tunes for days afterward. In terms of number and length of tracks, the BGM in the movie was a little less than the first, which is to be expected with the amount of more time the songs take up. But what we did get from the BGM was fantastic, introducing a couple new amazing themes which are reprised throughout the movie. NOTE: The songs in this movie are mixed differently than any other songs in this series. Backing vocals are in the stereo channels, but addtional backing vocals, and only a few instruments are in most of the surround channels. This means that a true instrumental for any song in this movie is unfortunately imossible. Sorry! --Track Specific Comments-- **NEW** Thanks to the wonder of the Hasbro Arcade app, we now have an actual Instrumental version for this song! Enjoy the guitar, synth, and bass in all their glory. Please note, this is only available in a more compressed MP3 version, as that is how it is stored in the game's files. But it's better than nothing! “Under Our Spell” is the second song from The Dazzlings in the movie, and accompanies a montage showing us the events of the Battle of the Bands competition. It has a similar style to that of “Battle (of the Bands)”, but with more of a pop and top-40 influence. It still has the siren-like vocals during the verses, but has much more backing vocals than “Battle” did. It has a very deliberate and strong beat complemented by some electric guitars and synth. This track has a very high production value, and is extremely catchy, just like “Battle” before it, more than likely thanks to Caleb Chan again. “Light of Your Cutie Mark" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

“Light of Your Cutie Mark" from the episode “Crusaders of the Lost Mark" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E18). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Wow. Just wow. I could just say that here and leave it at that, but I guess I need to write more. This is it! The episode we’ve all been waiting for. And wow, did it deliver. On the 5th Anniversary of MLP, no less! More pip, Silver Spoon finally stands up to Diamond Tiara, the former gets a beautiful redemption, and we cap it all off with the CMC, after 5 seasons and over 100 episodes, receiving their cutie marks! And if that wasn’t enough, it’s another musical episode written by Amy Keating Rogers with songs and score my Daniel Ingram. Like with Magical Mystery Cure and Pinkie Pride, Ingram did the score in addition to the songs in this episode, instead of William Anderson handling the score. Since there are so many songs in this kind of episode, it helps to have the score and songs flow together nicely, and they do wonderfully here! I could gush over this episode for much, much longer. But instead, let’s get right into the music, ‘cause there’s a lot to cover! TECHNICAL NOTE: The songs for this episode are unfortunately mixed differently than most others of the series, and there is no sound at all (other than effects) in the surround channels during songs. This means that for most of the songs it is impossible to get a completely clean instrumental. Sorry! --Track Specific Comments-- This song accomplishes two things. First off, it’s fast-paced and back the CMC chasing Diamond Tiara as she rushes to call out Pip’s issues. Second, it allows Diamond Tiara to fall back into her own ways, before being convinced by the CMC to otherwise. Diamond Tiara starts the first verse of this quick march, followed by a verse by the CMC. From there, the song goes into a beautiful bridge sung by Diamond. The CMC pick up with another verse, before branching into their end to the song, with more wonderful harmonies. (Watch in 1080p!) “A Changeling Can Change” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:29
“A Changeling Can Change“ from the episode “The Times They Are A Changeling“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E16). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- The Changelings are back! Or, well… at least one of them! Spike befriends a Changeling, and struggles to gain his friends’ acceptance of this. “The Times They Are A Chagneling” features some fantastic score, and Spike’s first solo song of the series! Of course, he had a solo song on the Christmas album, and sang the Cloudsdale anthem previously, but this is his first true solo song in the series itself! For his first foray in the series, it turned out beautiful! The episode’s score was great, pulling on some key themes from “A Canterlot Wedding” and “The Crystal Empire,” among many others, while blending in some excellent new compositions as well. This included a nice, short montage tune, as well as some emotional and action-packed tracks throughout. Let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- Spike’s first true song in the series is a beautiful, slow, and emotional piano ballad. It begins mostly with piano and vocals, adding in a few subtle string and flute parts. As we reach the first chorus, a harp flourish signals the backing to become more prominent, giving the song some additional energy and emotion. The song’s build up continues from there into bridge, where the string ensemble comes to the forefront, and horns join the symphony. The counter melodies in the string ensemble and piano backing the bridge really add to its emotional hit. Before we arrive at the final chorus, the backing backs off a bit, leaving the piano in the forefront once again, accentuating the weight of Spike’s lyrics. The next chorus brings with it the full orchestra once again, and an extremely beautiful sound leading to its minor chord ending and next verse. This verse begins simple once again in the instrumentation, with only the piano and a one-note hold on the strings, before the woodwinds and strings come back in full, adding in some acoustic guitar and percussion as well. This leads into the final, grand chorus, which brings back the full orchestra, with more prominent horns and percussion for that grandiose-feeling ending. “A Changeling Can Change” is probably the most beautiful song of the season thus far, and one of the top ones of the series. It backs the emotional plea from Spike that the scene is representing, and progresses its part of the story well. (Watch in 1080p!) “We’ll Make Our Mark" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

This means that for most of the songs it is impossible to get a completely clean instrumental. Sorry! --Track Specific Comments-- And now for the _really_ unexpected part! After five years, five seasons, 109 episodes, and countless tries, the CMC have received their cutie marks! Now to celebrate it, the song which had a prelude at the beginning of the episode. This is a beautiful song, and incredibly catchy. We got a glimpse of it during the cold open, but we now get to hear the full thing in all it’s glory. We start out more simple with some mandolin and more percussion than the prelude, as the CMC all get their solos. As we reach the first chorus, the song quickly builds into a fantastic full orchestration with more brass on top. After this, we reach a little bridge with the CMC’s sisters. First an emotional dialogue section with Applejack, then more bonding with Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo, and a beautiful solo by Rarity. All three sisters then sing the chorus together. This part is just so emotional, and seeing these three sisters sing to their younger siblings really brings a happy tear to my eye. Next, we get a powerful bridge as we see flashbacks from the previous CMC episodes, before the song ramps up into one final, grand run of the chorus will full orchestration. And ending this episode and song with a repeat of the intro sequence is just perfect. Perfect. This describes this song and third act. One final note: Amy Keating Rogers listed “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from the musical “Hairspray!” as her inspiration for the lyrics. (Watch in 1080p!) “Best Friends Until the End of Time” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:57
“Best Friends Until the End of Time“ from the episode “All Bottled Up“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S07E02). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- And here we are again! After 7 years, MLP enters its 7th season on air, and what a way to start off! The show is doing things a little differently to start off: having two distinct, yet connected episodes to begin the season, rather than a two-parter. So, here’s we’ll be talking about just “All Bottled Up.” Score-wise “All Bottled Up” is a little more subdued than the episode it’s paired with, “Celestial Advice.” We hear some drops of Starlight’s and Trixie’s leitmotifs, as well as the return of the new spa theme from last season. The episode builds up to another emotional ending, with another wonderful composition in “A Strong Friendship.” While this episode might be a little lighter on the score, it does feature our first song of the season, “Best Fiends Until the End of Time!” It’s quite the catchy number, and a good way to start the season off song-wise. It’s sad to hear this season will only be featuring 5 songs, so we have 4 more to go. Quality over quantity, as they say. Let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- Two episodes into season 7, and we already have our first song! “Best Friends Until the End of Time” is an extremely catchy number, with a very bouncy, deliberate beat, driven by a loud kick drum. It features more traditional MLP song instrumentation, but plussed over what we’ve been offered in the past in this category. In the forefront we have guitar, both electric and acoustic. The song’s intro features a little mandolin — a staple of the show. Some soft, plucked strings back the beginning, the strings continue in the backing throughout. The mandolin becomes more prominent in the song’s second verse, including more piano. This leads us to one final, wonderful run-through of the chorus. Overall a very, very catchy way to start the season’s songs off! (Watch in 1080p!) “Friendship Always Wins” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:09
“Friendship Always Wins“ from the episode “School Daze“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S08E02). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Can you believe that My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is back for an EIGHTH season? I certainly can't! The season begins quickly with what seems to be one of the main focuses: Twilight's new School of Friendship. Surprisingly picking up where the movie left off, Twilight wants to create a place to teach kids from inside and outside of Equestria about friendship. But she runs into some trouble with a strict school board. While certainly a slightly different focus than previous seasons, the score continues to be as good as ever. Fresh off My Little Pony: The Movie, Daniel Ingram enters into season 8 with two songs for the premiere! Written by (also fresh off the movie) Michael Vogel, and new executive producer Nicole Dubuc, the songs have some wonderful vocals and a playful back and forth with the choir. Daniel Ingram also had the chance to use some live instruments during the MLP Movie's recording on these songs, specifically some of the strings and brass. You can really hear this in the brass on "Friendship Always Wins," which sounds stunning. That song really has the style of many of the mainstay songs from the series in recent seasons, while the first song, "School of Friendship" is more of a ensemble broadway musical number. William Anderson also doesn't disappoint with the score. This premiere falls more in line with some of the tamer ones, with no huge big-baddie or intense plot, which leads to some more slice of life episode-style score. New character Chancellor Neighsay receives his own leitmotif, we hear returning themes from most of the lands we have visited the past few seasons, and Celesta's leitmotif is taking through some variations throughout. Lots to discuss, so let's dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- "Friendship Always Wins" is similar to many of the big, Mane 6 songs from the past few seasons, although takes on a slightly more "school song" march to it, fittingly. It also boasts, much like the episode itself, a huge cast of performers. We begin with the Mane 6 taking turns singing the first verse, with the entire choir joining in at the end. The instrumentation begins simple, with plenty of woodwinds and strings. The song begins to pick up in the second verse, with more percussion, glockenspiel, and piano added. The Mane 6, Spike, and Starlight continue to trade off singing the melody for this verse as well. We really pick up as we hit the insanely catchy chorus, sung by the entire ensemble. I always love these ensemble choruses, and the vocal harmonies are always incredibly enjoyable. The chorus also adds in our live brass for the song, which were recorded during the MLP Movie's recording session, which leads them to have a fantastic sound. A little bridge verse comes next, with Twilight taking the solo, followed by the choir of students. The instrumentation pulls back a bit from the chorus here, with some legato strings and piano. It picks back up into a more march sound as the students join in. As we enter the chorus again, the song really gets moving by adding the brass back in a big way. I love the little trumpet part at this part, which leads into the chorus in a very pleasing way. The final chorus has the most energy of the entire song, fittingly, with the brass in full force backing the singers. Not sure what else I can say, other than this is an extremely good and catchy song for the series, especially the chorus. The live brass section really amps up the songs quality for me, as well. “One More Day” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

03:05
“One More Day“ from the special “Best Gift Ever“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S00E01). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- In My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic's first special, the friends are preparing for another Hearth's Warming Eve, and rushing to find presents for everyone. The agree to do a "Hearthswarming Helper" thing instead, with each pony buying a gift for just one of their friends, who doesn't know who has them. Not only is "Best Gift Ever" a special 44 minute episode, but is also a holiday special. It features two new songs by Daniel Ingram, and score by William Anderson, who both bring the Christmas sound to the special's music. "One More Day" is a high-energy piece to open up the episode, with the traditional Christmas song sound and instrumentation, while "The True Gift of Gifting" is a more slow, melancholy, and emotional tune about the true meaning of the holiday. It also features a rare Spike solo part. William Anderson's score takes cues from previous Hearth's Warming episodes of the show, reprising numerous motifs from those episodes. We also hear various other cues for other characters and locations, with sleigh bells added on top to give them that holiday flair. At 44 minutes, this special is basically a two-parter episode, and thus packs a ton of backing score. A lot to cover in this special, so let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- After a brief part of score at the beginning of the special, we quickly enter the first of two songs. "One More Day" is a very traditional broadway-style Christmas number, utilizing a lot of the instrumentation you'd expect from such a number. In tradition Friendship is Magic fashion, Daniel Ingram also uses mandolin throughout to tie it to much of the series' other songs. Much of the main melody is in the vocals and their harmonies, with the backing instrumental track mainly suppling support and not touching the melody. After a string and woodwind-filled first verse, we enter the song's chorus. This features more brass to start off, adding in more prominent mandolin as well. The vocals also feature a nice little talking part in between the melody, keeping the pace of the song brisk. After a second verse and chorus featuring Pinkie and Applejack, the song reaching its bridge. The percussion gives this section a slower, more march-like feel, and the vocals feature many harmonies and counter-melodies to add more layers to the sound. This then transitions to our final verse and chorus, with Spike and Twilight. (Watch in 1080p!) “You’re In My Head Like a Catchy Song” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:36
“You’re In My Head Like a Catchy Song“ from the episode “The Perfect Pear“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S07E13). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what to write here. This episode was amazing in so many ways, and finally visits the last of the Mane 6’s parents’ stories. Being an Applejack fan, this is an episode I’ve been waiting for them to tackle for 7 years. And I think Joanne and Kristine executed it wonderfully. In addition to the episode’s emotion and beauty itself, both Daniel Ingram and William Anderson match this beat for beat in the music department. Ingram delivers one of the most simple songs of the series, but also one of the most emotional, heartfelt, and beautiful. Felicia Day’s vocals as Pear Butter are perfect for the slow, tender, and deliberate country song, and it really hits you hard. The simple acoustic guitar instrumentation is the perfect choice for “You’re In My Head Like a Catchy Song,” and the melody is extremely catchy. And yeah, while he doesn’t sing, I would be crazy not to mention William Shatner’s guest role in the episode, delivering a fantastic performance as Grand Pear. William Anderson also delivers a hard-hitting emotional score all throughout the episode. This includes a lovely theme for the Apple & Pear couple which makes appearances throughout, and a wonderful orchestration of the episode’s song during the emotional conclusion. We also have our first credits score in a long while, which features a short instrumental of “You’re In My Head Like a Catchy Song.” There’s a ton to cover in this one, so let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- While I enjoy most of the music that Friendship is Magic has to offer, everyone once-in-a-while Daniel Ingram blows all others out of the water. This is one of those songs. It’s deceptively simple in its instrumentation, but backs itself with so much meaning and emotion to make up for it. In fact, if it contained more instruments, it would lose its heartfelt core. We’ve had plenty of country tunes in the show now seven seasons in, but none quite as emotional and slow-paced as this one. The song is certainly driven by its beautiful vocals performed by Felicia Day. Ingram adds in just a tad of vocal harmony to the chorus to help it stick out, without resorting to adding any additional instrumentation other than the lone acoustic guitar. Also of note, a shortened version of this song’s instrumental appears in the episode’s credits, and William Anderson does a fantastic job of weaving the melody into the score at the episode’s conclusion as we see the Apple Pear tree. Certainly the highlight song of the season, and one of the best of the show. It’s nice that Daniel had the chance to write a beautiful, emotional song within this season’s shortened music run. "Bats" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:19
"Bats" (Instrumental Version) from the episode "Bats!" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S04E07). (Download link below) --Overall Comments-- Well this was an interesting episode. What seemed to be a simple episode about a disagreement between friends with different views turned into a full-on dark and scary later Halloween episode! With Flutterbat taking most of the spotlight, its easy to forget about the rest of the episode. There's some great creepy BGM, and of course the second song of the season! --Track Specific Comments-- This song, much like the first song of the season "Hearts Strong as Horses" is quite the departure from the normal fare of songs in the series. It is obviously a direct homage to the works of Danny Elfman, most specifically on "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Daniel Ingram also cites "Beauty and the Beast" as inspiration for the song, most likely referring to "The Mob Song" from the movie's climax, which is reminiscent of the end of "Bats" where the Mane 6 are chanting around Fluttershy. Style-wise, this song doesn't rely much of melody or harmonies. There are no harmony or background vocals in the song, with the closest being when the Mane 6 are all chanting--but even there they are all chanting the same notes. It is nice to have another duet song between two ponies. The back and forth between Applejack and Fluttershy is great, more specifically how the tone of the song changes as each sings, reflecting their moods and arguments. On a story note, it's great that both characters pretty much have correct viewpoint and give reasonings backing them up. Truly there is not a "right" answer here. Much of what makes this song stick out is the off-tempo and the backing orchestration. Steffan Andrews definitely had some fun with this orchestration. Just listen to those quick arpeggios in the woodwind section at the beginning and throughout the song. That alone makes the song for me. The song has a very "bouncy" beat with the bass and tubas providing a very powerful bass section to the song. There is a lot of blaring horns throughout the song, especially when Applejack is singing, mimicking her loud, forceful, and tough argument. (Watch in 1080p!) "You'll Play Your Part" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

03:02
"You'll Play Your Part" (Instrumental Version) from the episode "Twilight's Kingdom — Part 1" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S04E25). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- This episode pretty much blew anything we've seen in the past from My Little Pony out of the water. From a very intense villain, to a twisting story, to being beautifully storyboarded and animated, to absolutely God-like songs and score, to an all-out DBZ-style fighting sequence. So far, this is Friendship is Magic's crowning achievement. This season has been different in many ways, including it's overarching continuity. While the majority of the season had fairly individual and "slice of life" episodes, Meghan McCarthy and her team have managed to interweave an overarching plot into them, making almost seemingly unrelated episodes come together. It was fantastic watching all of the callbacks and references to events and characters from this season, and how those individual moments each contributed to something much larger. This episode had hands-down some of the best music of the series, both songs and score. Daniel Ingram only provides two songs for this two-parter, but they surely fill the void of 10 songs. From the princesses, including Luna (!!), singing a song which I can only describe as "Godlike", to the fantastic finale song, Ingram, Steffan Andrews, and their team absolutely nailed it. And we cannot forget the music which takes up the majority of the episode: William Anderson's superb score—some of his best work! I wasn't sure if he would top his score from the season 4 premiere , but he delivered and then some. Not only did he hit on all of the reoccurring themes throughout the season, but he "plussed" them so much it was amazing—Please see the episode's crowning-BGM "Friendship is the Key." --Track Specific Comments-- It has some stiff competition, but this song is climbing the ladders towards my favorite of the series. Celestia's Ballad probably still holds the title for "most beautiful" song, but this is certainly a close number 2. A lot of songs have a hook in the chorus to pull you in, but this entire song is a hook...I can't get it out of my head! We start out with some well-needed singing from Twilight as she explains how she feels. Complementing a great tune here is some fantastic acoustic guitar, quickly adding some strings and glockenspiel in the background. The song continues to build and add more instruments as Twilight sings, including more percussion, woodwinds, and choir. After the second verse, Celestia joins in, singing for the second time since last season's finale, and Nicole Oliver's voice is just as amazing as ever. The backing track here resemble's "Celestia's Ballad" from season 3's finale quite a bit. Next, the fandom explodes as Luna gets her first-ever singing part in the series, and who better to sing for her than Rarity's singing voice Kazumi Evans. Evans does a superb job here differentiating this singing from Rarity's, which is not easy. Cadance joins in, singing for the first time since "A Canterlot Wedding." The backing track builds adding the full orchestra in by the time we get to the chorus. And holy crap the chorus. These harmonies are simply God-like. The three singers here just nail it. The backing track perfectly adjusts, adding a moving yet upbeat rhythm to the song. And can I say that Britt McKillip's part in the second bridge is absolutely beautiful. I didn't think Ingram and Andrews could top the first chorus, but as we get to it for the second and final time, he manages to add so much emotion to it via a key change and some great brass. I won't lie—the final chorus made me tear up, it was that emotionally strong. “Your Heart Is in Two Places” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:11
“Your Heart Is in Two Places“ from the episode “Surf and/or Turf“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S08E06). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Just six episodes in, and we’re already getting the chance to revisit Seaquestria and Mount Aris in the main show! What a pleasant surprise. As an aside, big props to the show’s artistic staff for adapting the locations to the Flash-animated series. With these grand locations comes some pretty wonderful score from William Anderson throughout. After a few episodes of more subdued score, this episode is jam-packed with score right in the forefront. He doesn’t waste any time implementing some fantastic leitmotifs for Mount Aris, Seaquestria, and our new character Terramar. Each one sounds beautiful, and encapsulates the settings wonderfully. In addition, we cannot overlook that this is also a Map episode, and of course features the map’s “Mission Complete” motif at the episode’s conclusion. But wait, there’s still more! This episode is just jam-packed from end-to-end with music, and also includes our third song of the season from Daniel Ingram, “Your Heart Is in Two Places.” This is a lovely duet, or more like duel, song between Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, both of which I’m excited to hear more solos from. Way too much to talk about this week, so let’s dive right in! …Literally this time, I guess. --Track Specific Comments-- After a few episodes lighter on the music-side, this episode comes out full-throttle with our third song of the season, “Your Heart Is in Two Places.” This one features a nice lyrical duel between Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, both of whom I’m happy to hear solos from! We being simply, with solos from each of the CMC. After the introduction, the song begins to pick up slowly, backed by some lovely mandolin, piano, and strings. We continue to pick up through Sweetie Belle’s solo, as she points out all of the pros to living on Mount Aris. More acoustic guitar is added with the mandolin here to lead to a more full sound. Scootaloo then takes us under the seas to Seaquestria. The energy of the song really picks up here. The mandolin is is replaces with more prominent percussion and strings. The score becomes much more orchestral. From there, we enter a back-and-froth between Sweetie and Scootaloo, with the instrumentations from both of their solos also switching between. This all builds up to the song’s finale, with a travel up the scale cumulating in a big, angry ending topped off by some brass finally being added to the instrumentation. On a side note, Scootaloo features a new singing voice actor for this song, with Arielle Tiliao taking the place of Madeleine Peters (Watch in 1080p!) “In Our Town" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:22
“In Our Town" from the episode "The Cutie Map — Part 1" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E01). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- It’s back! It’s here! After almost a YEAR hiatus, My Little Pony finally returns for it’s fifth season! And boy, what a way to start it out! We got probably one of the darkest, most phycological episodes of the series, with some pretty heavy undertones that might pass over kids’ heads. On top of that, we have probably the most complex villain the show has had thus far: Starlight Glimmer. But I’m not here to talk about the episode as a whole, I’m here to focus on the music and score! And it did not fail to impress either. First off, we have a new song, the very creepy town anthem “In Our Town”, which can definitely be counted as another villain song for the show. It includes some of the darkest lyrics of the show hidden in an otherwise upbeat march. Then, there’s of course the BGM. William Anderson and Kelly Davidson continue to push the show’s music forward into new levels of greatness. The premiere includes many new beautiful themes that we will hopefully hear again throughout the season. It also reprises some relevant motifs from the season 4 finale, including “Princess Twilight Sparkle’s” theme. This is definitely a well-thought out move to tie this in with that episode, since it seems like season 5 picks up not too long after season 4 time-wise. Overall, the music in this episode blew me away, and I’ve been dying to rip it ever since Saturday. There are 25 tracks of BGM—A record for any Pony episode I’ve ripped, more than Rainbow Rocks, and tied with Equestria Girls. Enjoy! --Track Specific Comments-- Our first song of the season, something that rarely happens in the first episode! A “national anthem”-style of march, this song seems upbeat on the surface, but has just the right amount of “off-ness” in the instrumental to make you realize something is wrong. The lyrics accentuate this even further, with some lines that are a lot darker once your dive deeper into them, especially “You can’t have a nightmare, if you never dream”. Mixed with the visuals on screen, this is probably one of the best song sequences in the series in terms of story-telling, lyrics, and feeling. (Watch in 1080p!) “Friends Are Always There For You" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:14
“Friends Are Always There For You" from the episode “The Cutie Re-Mark, part 2" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E26). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Holy crap, this episode! Probably the most intense, darkest, and most complicated episode of My Little Pony to date. We get to travel through multiple timelines, see all of the major old villains reprised, and see how they would have taken over if not for the Mane 6. Plus, we get some more of the awesomeness that is Starlight Glimmer, who is consistently one step ahead of Twilight at every turn. And of course, her much awaited backstory and motivations are also revealed. This episode just blows most others out of the water with its scale, story telling, animation, and music. Being able to see all the different versions of the mane cast through each timeline was amazing, and just the idea of answering the question “what would happen if Twilight and the rest of the mane 6 never got together/the rainboom never happened” is something many have been awaiting for a long time. William Anderson's score of this episode was simply fantastic. It is filled with reprised motifs from previous episodes, both from this season and previous ones. Each villain’s motifs are reprised for them, some of which we haven’t heard since the first two seasons of the show. I have so many themes to point out in this episode, I’m probably going to miss a few! To top the entire two-parter off, we have an awesome song that starts out a little slow, but builds into a fantastic final part with most of the main MLP cast showing up in what can only be described as a series finale that isn’t actually a series finale. I can’t wait to see what season 6 and the movie have in store, as somehow even after the phenomenal season 4 finale, the MLP staff have found a way to raise the bar for themselves yet again! Thank you all for all of your support this season! If this season was any indication, another amazing 26 episodes of MLP await us on the other end. See you for season 6 and the next Equestria Girls movie! --Track Specific Comments-- Much like the season opener, only one song for this episode, with the rest filled with tons of story and amazing score. However, the final song doesn’t disappoint, and gives Starlight another chance to have a solo, this time also singing with the Mane 6. The song itself is about how friendships, like shown in the episode, have the power to change your life and others. The song starts out as fairly standard MLP fare, with plenty of woodwinds and mandolin, and with Starlight’s solo. As we reach Twilight Sparkle’s solo part, the song slowly begins to pick up with some more bass, additional percussion, and strings. After this we reach the bridge to the first chorus, the rest of the mane 6 chorus joins in, and the song really begins to pick up and find its original footing. This brief bridge ends in a fermata on the last note as the Mane 6 and Starlight jump into the air (although the song begins again on-beat, so not really a fermata. But If this was being performed live, I could definitely see that being used in the notation). We then reach the chorus, which begins the best parts of the song in my opinion. The melody and lyrics of this part are super-catchy and upbeat, helped by the bass and fantastic percussion parts, as well as always great harmonies from the mane 6. As we enter the ending parts of the song, some great horns and eventually trumpets are added to continue to build the song until its end. After a fantastic buildup to the final note, the instrumentation silences and we’re left with just some beautiful piano arpeggios and chimes. Mixed with the group shot of the main cast, this is just such a wonderful way to end the episode. The more and more I hear this song, the more it grows on me. “It’s Gonna Work" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:29
“It’s Gonna Work" from the episode “Spice Up Your Life" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E12). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- It’s hard to believe that we’ve already reached the mid-season finale of My Little Pony, Season 6! It feels like just yesterday we were watching “The Crystalling,” or heck, “The Cutie Re-Mark.” Time sure flies—and now here’s our final music until the second half of the season, or “Legend of Everfree,” whichever comes first. First off, the Cutie Map is back! After a noticeable absence since the Season 5 finale, one that is nicely even pointed out by the Mane 6, Twilight and Starlight are able to use a spell to re-activte the map. And after a little rebooting, it quickly calls Pinkie Pie and Rarity to Canterlot to solve an issue. (Yay, another episode this season with these two!) While in Canterlot, we’re treated to reprises of the Cutie Map motifs from Season 5, plenty of Indian-style score (with ample sitar), and another new song! That’s a song two weeks in a row (an academy record!) Both the score and song tread new ground music-wise for the series; it’s always fantastic to see MLP continue to branch out into new genres. Plus, this episode has something that I don’t believe we’ve heard since Season 1’s “Winter Wrap Up”: an instrumental reprise. So, let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- For this week’s song, “It’s Gonna Work,” Daniel Ingram & team once again dive into a new music genre for the series, and nail it. A Bollywood musical number, this one has plenty of woodwinds, strings, sitar, and percussion, backed with a heavy bass line. In addition, this also marks Rarity’s first duet song, and the first between her and Pinkie Pie. Both of them receive their own solos during the song as they explain their methods, leading to the nice duets during the chorus, with Rarity taking the lower harmonies. “It’s Gonna Work” is certainly one of the series’ more unique songs, and expands on the already large number of genres the series has covered. This was one of the funniest and most entertaining episodes of anything I have ever seen. Sure, it was an over-the-top fan-pandering episode, but that’s what it’s supposed to be. They took that concept, cranked it up to 11, yet still gave it a heart and good moral. I don’t think there’s been an episode of MLP which kept me laughing for so long and so consistently. And all of the fan references, shoutouts, jabs (both at the show and the fans), and background characters were thrown into this story so wonderfully, it’s hard to no appreciate what M.A. Larson and crew were able to pull off. On top of that, we got some fantastic score in this episode as well. From reprises of old themes, to some beautiful orchestral ones, to an absolutely jaw dropping cello / dubstep duet with Vinyl and Octavia. I could talk for days about this episode, and still want to watch it more — but for now, let’s get to the BGM! And happy 100th episode MLP — I never thought this show would have gone this far, nor that I would be here now doing what I’m doing! What a great way to celebrate! --Track Specific Comments-- Well this is technically not a song, I’m going to count it as one at least in terms of how my rips are organized. It’s the focus of the scene, isn’t behind dialogue, and is just a joy to listen to, and is almost 3 minutes long. Close enough for “song” status if you ask me. This is something which has been hinted at before, but now we finally get to hear it in all it’s glory: a dubstep / cello duet between Vinyl and Octavia. And William Anderson, with help from cellist Tina Guo, did not disappoint! We start out with Octavia playing some standard wedding songs on her Cello, before Vinyl steps in and attempts to spruce it up with some wubs. While not working at first, the both quickly find their groove, and give us one of the best and most unique things to come out of the series musically. And this isn’t just a quick come and done musical number, it goes on and on through an entire “chase” scene. Daniel Ingram took on dubstep in the Rainbow Rocks shorts, and here Anderson succeeds at doing the same. Tina’s cello part is fantastic, and everything mixes so well. Much like the rest of the episode, there’s not much else for me to say — it left me speechless. It’s really great, and fun to listen to! (Watch in 1080p!) “The Magic Inside" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:21
“The Magic Inside" from the episode “The Mane Attraction" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E24). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- It’s finally here: the episode we’ve all been waiting for. The final regular episode of the season, Amy Keating Rogers’ final episode, and special guest Lena Hall And boy, what an episode it was! A great story, some spectacular animation and effects, and four diverse and unique songs, all filled with beautiful vocals from Lena Hall. All leading up to the final version of the song number that many of us have been anticipating since this year’s Comic Con. Not much more to say overall. Thank you to Amy Keating Rogers for all of the wonderful episodes you’ve given us over the years on this show, and we all are looking forward to more stuff from you in the future! --Track Specific Comments-- Well, here it is: the big number! The song we heard earlier in the year, now complete in non-camrip quality and fully animated. And boy, does it ever deliver. This might be my favorite song of the series thus far, and definitely the most beautiful. It’s simple, and is not anywhere near the most complicated song in terms of its instrumentation. However, that is what makes it so great. A fantastic piano part, mixed with Lena Hall’s breathtaking vocals makes this song something special, and something really only this series could pull off. Seriously, would you hear something like this on any other animated (or, for that matter, even live-action) show currently on television? Amy Keating Rogers stated that the song was a homage to Lady Gaga’s acoustic versions of her songs. In many ways, from the lyrics and topic, to the melody and style of the song itself, the song also bears much resemblance to Christina Perri’s song “Human”. (Where the chorus’ lyrics are “But I’m Only Human”, very similar to “I Am Just a Pony”). That song builds up with more production and percussion as well, more like how Daniel Ingram stated this song was originally produced. I definitely recommend giving that song a listen, ‘cause the similarities are fun to hear. “The Magic Inside” definitely wins out, in my opinion! The song begins in its simplest form, just Rara playing the piano and delivering a smooth, satisfying vocal performance. Strings are slowly layered more and more on top of this throughout the song, but never overtake it. The vocals and piano remain the focus, with the rest backing them up and providing additional emotional punch. Daniel Ingram stated on Facebook that there was originally more production near the end with a full orchestra, and while I’d _love_ to eventually hear that version as well, I’m glad they kept it the way it current appears. It’s just perfect. One thing that didn’t come through as clearly through the camprip in the echo-y hall from the showing at Comic Con was the wonderful arpeggios during the chorus, especially at its end, as well as the string backing during the second verse. And enough credit cannot be given to Lena Hall, who just blows away this song’s vocals. It’s quite an honor to the show to have a talent such as herself deliver such a number. If this is what Ingram is able to produce for the show, I cannot wait to see what he has in store for the movie with a full orchestra! If this song doesn’t win that emmy, then there’s no hope left for those! (Watch in 1080p!) “Out On My Own" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:08
“Out On My Own" from the episode “On Your Marks" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E04). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Four episodes in to season 6 and it is already time to tackle the Cutie Mark Crusaders and where they go post-Cutie Marks! This marks one of the first, if not the first episode where none of the Mane 6 appear at all. What starts out as a CMC episode quickly turns into a character episode for Apple Bloom, which has repercussions for the entire group. The score to “On Your Marks” offers quite a bit of new pieces, including some awesome callbacks to some of the classic Season 1 CMC music. Plus, some great new tango and jazz music for the dancing scenes! And, of course, we also have our first song of the season, “On My Own” an amazing Apple Bloom solo country song! This episode has a lot to offer musically, so let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- Four episodes in and we have our first song of the season, a stunningly beautiful Apple Bloom solo (a first for the filly). “On My Own” unsurprisingly is a slow and deliberately paced country tune with some musical theater influences. While we’ve certainly had some country songs in the series before, they’ve up to this point been more upbeat. It’s great having the season start out with another different type of song for the series. The song begins very simply, with just Michelle Creber’s amazing vocals and some guitar. As we arrive at the first chorus, some soft, subtle strings are added in, along with some beautiful harmonies to Apple Bloom’s vocals. A second verse comes next, with some additional woodwinds added in on top, as well as a little harp. The song continues to slowly pick up pace as we reach the second and final chorus with the song’s full instrumentation now it place, before the solo guitar leads us to the song’s conclusion. I absolutely love the simplicity of this song, and how it slowly picks up throughout. The additional instrumentation added throughout blends in so seamlessly as the song progresses, you don’t consciously realize it’s presence, but certainly feel it emotionally. Enough can’t be said about Michelle’s fantastic, emotional filled singing, as always! Overall a beautiful way to start off the season musically! (Watch in 1080p!) “The Pony I Want to Be" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:43
“The Pony I Want to Be" from the episode “Crusaders of the Lost Mark" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E18). Sorry! --Track Specific Comments-- I wasn’t prepared for this. A heart-filled and somber Diamond Tiara solo song? I was not expecting this, and it is simply beautiful. I’m so happy that Chantal Strand got a solo song here, as her singing voice as Diamond Tiara is great. The song begins with a simple piano backing. As we reach the first chorus, some woodwinds and strings are added in, as well as some harmonies for the vocals. We pick up more during the second chorus with some slow percussion and further instrumentation to end the song. This is a fantastic song, and really drives the emotion home. Still can’t believe I’m feeling bad for Diamond Tiara… According to Amy Keating Rogers, the lyrics for this song were inspired by “When She Loved Me” from “Toy Story 2”. (Watch in 1080p!) "Equestria Girls (Helping Twilight Win the Crown)" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Equestria Girls

03:06
"Equestria Girls (Helping Twilight Win the Crown)" (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Well, here we are: Equestria Girls! I'll preface this by saying the movie surprised me. I went in with low expectations (I never was a fan of the obvious corporate concept), and came out entertained. It was fun, and while not amazing, it was by no means bad, or even mediocre. Plus, the songs and BGM were all FANTASTIC and top-quality. I'll note that if you are for some reason not a fan of "pop" music, you probably won't be thrilled with the songs in the movie. But you've gotta admit the quality and production of them is great. This is it! The big number from the movie: "Equestria Girls." That's the name it's given in the credits, although many know it as "Helping Twilight Win the Crown" or simply "Cafeteria Song," which I think is what its called on the DVD. This is probably the most catchy song the series, and Daniel Ingram & team, have produced. The hook is very, very strong with this one. It's a straight up ensemble pop song, with the entire Mane 6 taking part, with a few solos interspersed. Plus, the animated sequence that goes with it is probably just as addicting. I've seen some criticism leveled at the movie for the animation overall, but you've gotta admit the animation and storyboarding for this scene was wonderful. I could watch a loop of just the dance during the first chorus for hours. In this instrumental version, you can really hear what makes this song so addicting, besides the good lyrics. Listen for the awesome guitar backing melody during the chorus, as well as all of the little staccato electronic parts. These all blend in quite a bit in the full version, but probably have the biggest affect on the feeling of the song more than anything else. The production talents of Ingram & his team really show in this song--especially in this instrumental. Enjoy! (Watch in HD!) "You'll Play Your Part" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

03:02
"You'll Play Your Part" from the episode "Twilight's Kingdom — Part 1" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S04E25). Not only did he hit on all of the reoccurring themes throughout the season, but he "plussed" them so much it was amazing—Please see the episode's crowning-BGM "Friendship is the Key." I'll be sure to point out as many musical callbacks and meanings as I can in the tracks' descriptions below! Enjoy, and see you for Equestria Girls 2! --Track Specific Comments-- It has some stiff competition, but this song is climbing the ladders towards my favorite of the series. “Make This Castle A Home" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:33
“Make This Castle A Home" from the episode “Castle Sweet Castle" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E03). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Season 5 doesn’t waste any time giving us the Twilight and The Golden Oaks Library sendoff episode! And what an emotional, from-the-heart episode it was. But what did surprise me is the amount of fantastic humor in it as well! The Golden Oaks Library finally gets a name-drop, as well as it’s proper sendoff for the series, including some beautiful renditions of the Golden Oaks Library theme. The standout from this episode music-wise is most certainly the song and its reprise. Just a beautiful piece of music all around! New MLP writers Joanna Lewis & Kristine Songco have definitely quickly grasped the characters and concepts of the show, and picked up just like they’ve been writing for the series all along. --Track Specific Comments-- Second week of season 5, and we already have our second song! This song is just beautiful, and screams “MLP”. From the guitars, to the amazing orchestra, to the trademark mandolin, this song is an instant classic. Each pony gets a solo part in the song, which all lead up to some great harmonies as they all join in together. I really love the bridge, with the really driving drums backing up the vocals. Unfortunately, it seems like orchestrator Steffan Andrews couldn’t assist with this season, but Caleb Chan does a fantastic job with the orchestration on this one, allowing the strings to really add so much to the overall feel of the song, and really build it up at part. David Corman also returns to add in the guitar and mandolin parts, which really shine like they did in “The Ballad of the Crystal Empire.” After last week’s amazing song which once again expanded the genre reach of MLP, it’s nice to have a song right after that brings the series’ music back to its roots. “I’ll Fly" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

“I’ll Fly" from the episode “Tanks for the Memories" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E05). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Season 5 just keeps getting better and better! This week’s episode is full of Dash, Tank, emotion, and very sweet moments. The faces Rainbow Dash makes around Tank just bring the best, most happy feeling inside of you. It’s amazing how far she’s come with a character, and also how far her relationship with her pet has progressed. We have some fantastic BGM in this episode, including some reprises of a few Season 4 themes, and a really beautiful ending track. However, the highlight of the episode is definitely the breathtaking Rainbow Dash solo song—of course, a first for the series. --Track Specific Comments-- And here’s what many have been looking forward to for quite a long time: Rainbow Dash’s solo song. She had a duet with Fluttershy, and of course an awesome song in Rainbow Rocks, but this is her first true song all to herself in the main series. And does it deliver! I’m actually having trouble writing this description right now, as I can’t stop listening. The song is a little more pop-rock than we are used to in the main series, but thanks to some fantastic orchestration by Caleb Chan, the track feels more like something out of a modern musical, such as “Wicked”. This definitely helps the song feel more at home in MLP. Definitely take a listen to the instrumental version, as this song’s backing track, especially with the orchestration, is what makes it so good. While the chorus is absolutely amazing, my favorite part is probably the bridge before it. Ashleigh Ball returns again this week with some more fantastic singing as Rainbow Dash. The high notes she hits are just filled with so much emotion, and really help the scene. (Watch in 1080p!) “You’re In My Head Like a Catchy Song“ (Instrumental Version) from the episode “The Perfect Pear” of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S07E13). "This Is Our Big Night (Extended Version)" (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." -=-=-=-=!!NEW!!-=-=-=-=- I recently realized that the version of "This Is Our Big Night" on the Hasbro Arcade app was actually an instrumental of the extended version of the song, rather that the movie versions. What a better time to post this than the same day the actual extended version of the song was released? Being that the track was already in a compressed and finished form, I am only offering this track in the original MP3 format. Transcoding it to anything else would be pointless. Get it below! “Rainbow Rocks” Instrumental - MLP: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks

“Rainbow Rocks” (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." **DOWNLOAD LINKS BELOW** --Overall Comments-- And here it is— the second Equestria Girls movie, Rainbow Rocks! Enjoy the guitar and organ in all their glory. Please note, this is only available in a more compressed MP3 version, as that is how it is stored in the game's files. But it's better than nothing! Here we have the opening sequence title track for the movie. Instead of a remixed My Little Pony theme like the first movie had, Ingram here provides us with an original rock piece for the title track. This entire opening sequence was amazing, complete with some awesome animation summarizing the events of the first movie through shadows. I was pretty blown away by the first movie’s opening titles, but Rainbow Rocks’ blows that out of the water. Props to Tony Cliff who did the concept & development for this sequence! The song itself is fantastic. A rockin’ track, this piece starts out with a Queen-like drum sequence, leading into some awesome guitar parts—even the bass track is not boring and adds a ton of flair to the song. And I cannot stress how great the organ part is in this song. Daniel Ingram once again proves he can tackle and master any genre of music—which is probably the best thing about the Equestria Girls movies. It allows him to utilize genres of music that might not fit well with the original TV series. This is the perfect way to start this movie. “We Will Stand for Everfree” Instrumental - MLP: Equestria Girls - Legend of Everfree

02:02
“We Will Stand for Everfree” (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Legend of Everfree“ based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." --Overall Comments-- “Legend of Everfree” was quite a different movie from the previous Equestria Girls offerings in many ways. It took place outside the school, and felt somewhat more subdued, especially when compared to Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games. Not that it didn’t have its big moments, but compared to the previous movies, it was much more character-focused and dialogue-heavy. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise then that much of the music was also drastically different than the previous three movies. Daniel Ingram and crew went with much less pop and electronic songs, which took up most of the previous soundtracks, and focused more on acoustic and folk. The latter is something that we haven’t really heard from the series before, and as always it’s great to hear it delve into new musical genres. The soundtrack features two acoustic folk songs with the movie’s title and credits numbers, an emotional piano ballad for Twilight, and a more contemporary acousti-pop song from Sunset. Gaea Everfree (aka Gloriosa Daisy) receives a big, bombastic villain song, which sounds like a musical version of the “Imperial March.” And finally, the movie concludes with one electronic dance number in “Legend You Are Meant to Be” where Daniel really busts out his talent of writing catchy hooks. --Track Specific Comments-- Now we reach “Legend of Everfree’s” villain song, sung by Gloriosa Daisy. Probably the darkest-sounding and most intense villain song we’ve heard from Equestria Girls thus far. I think the best way to describe this song is “if the Imperial March was a song number,” especially in its final moments. Of all this soundtrack’s songs, the orchestration and production by Caleb Chan and Trevor Hoffmann really shines through the most in this one, with a wide variety of instruments being utilized throughout. In addition to the string ensemble, blaring horns, and march drums, we hear a nice mix of chimes, choir, and woodwind flourishes throughout different parts of the backing score. “Stand for Everfree” is quick to pick up, adding in a full brass backing and choir by the end of the first verse. There’s also a very powerful drum track that picks up here. As we reach the first bridge, the instrumentation backs off, accentuating the lyrics at this point. This also adds an unsettling and devious tone, while chimes and xylophone that grace the background incorporate some mysteriousness to her lines. When we reach the last verse, the instrumentation quickly bombards us with blaring horns, and full orchestra. The brass take the lead during these last parts, with some staccato fanfare in the trumpet section, and very strong, blaring low brass filling the rest of the backing, while the strings settle on an ostinato through the final measures. The huge final verse is definitely my favorite part of “We Will Stand for Everfree.” I love the amount of power it conveys through the strong instrumentation and brass buildup throughout. Speaking of those, one must also complement Kelly Metzger’s vocals singing for Goriosa here. If you don’t follow who voices who, Kelly is the voice actor for Spitfire in the main series. She has a fantastic voice and just kills this song, bringing a great amount of forcefulness behind the lyrics. “Find the Purpose in Your Life” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:23
“Find the Purpose in Your Life“ from the episode “The Fault in Our Cutie Marks“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E19). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- The Cutie Marks Crusaders are doing well with their new purpose and calling: helping others with their cutie marks! That is, until a Griffon, Gabby, shows up looking for assistance in discovering hers. The CMC must surmount this seemingly impossible challenge. “The Fault in Our Cutie Marks” brings the 12th song of the season thus far, “Find the Purpose in Your Life.” This also puts Ed Valentine’s episodes up to 4 for 4 in terms of including songs; including his previous episode this season, “The Cart Before the Ponies,” another one which was CMC-focused. This catchy number brings with it that classic style of CMC and Pony songs and instrumentation, so expect plenty of acoustic guitars and mandolin. William Anderson’s score doesn’t disappoint, and even with the song is more plentiful than last week. Gabby brings back with her one of Griffonstone’s motifs from last season’s “The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone.” The score becomes more emotional as the episode continues, and we hear a few reprised pieces of score near its end. Let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- I was a little surprised to have another song so close to the previous ones (and a third CMC song this season, no less!), but with Ed Valentines previous 3 for 3 (now 4 for 4) song track record for his episodes, I assume it was a given! The overall sound is most certainly a CMC song, relying on guitar and mandolin to really drive its theme. It begins with a march in the percussion, bringing flashbacks to a previous CMC (and Ed Valentine) song, “Hearts Strong as Horses” from Season 4. The mandolin and some glockenspiel enter as we start the first chorus, followed quickly by the guitar backing for Gabby’s verse. The march style continues as the first chorus is reached, as Gabby goes through helping different ponies. There seems to be a few whip cracks in the back here in there, again paralleling similarities to “Hearts Strong as Horses.” Next is the song’s first bridge, which brings in more orchestra in the backing, while the drums back off from their march. This quickly builds into the next verse, with more pronounced mandolin, before we go to the final chorus. This returns to the march feel, but with additional string ensemble. A second, beautiful bridge makes an appearance next. The song’s emotional level really reaches it peak here, as the instrumentation brings in more pronounced string counter melodies, and some powerful drum hits in the percussion. Which then lead us to the song’s final buildup and end, utilizing the mandolin from the verses. Another fantastic CMC song from Daniel Ingram, with some great instrumentation by Caleb Chan, especially in the two bridges. (Watch in 1080p!) "Celestia's Ballad" / "The Transformation" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:19
"Celestia's Ballad" / "The Transformation" from the episode "Magical Mystery Cure" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S03E13). And then there is this song: an absolutely beautiful piano ballad. This is another song that is just on a completely different level from any others we've heard from the series before. It is hands down the most beautiful song with the most feels of any of the series. The choir throughout is great, too. Plus, Celestia sings--and Nicole Oliver did fantastic! I think this song and sequence was probably the best way to lead up to the event that followed, as it really reminded the viewer just how much Twilight Sparkle has done, grown up, and ...evolved... throughout the course of the series. If this song or "I've Got to Find a Way" don't win a "Best Song" Daytime Emmy in 2014 there is no justice in this world. On a quality note, the atmospheric effect really interfere with the intro to the song unfortunately. (Watch in 1080p!) "My Little Pony Theme (Equestria Girls Remix)" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Equestria Girls

01:31
"My Little Pony Theme (Equestria Girls Remix)" (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Well, here we are: Equestria Girls! We begin with the first "song" from the movie, a remix of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic theme. This really caught me off guard. I was totally expecting some re-imagining of the theme song for the movie, but not an electronic remix. This really sounds like something that would come out of the fandom, not the show, which is pretty cool. I did love listening to the theater reactions when this song begun--it was quite good and unexpected. The instrumental version here starts out a little weird and lifeless. Most of the song in the beginning is actually remixed vocals, and therefore is in the vocal channels. It picks up soon through with the remixed instrumental. On another note, most of the songs in Equestria Girls are mixed quite differently from the show. In the show, you usually have the vocalist in the center channel, backing vocals (if any) in the left or right channels along with the instrumental, and just the instrumental in the surround. However, for most of the songs here, all vocals and the instrumental in the front channels, backing vocals in the rear channels, and in the center, if anything, there is a soft instrumental. A lot of this has to do with the "ensemble" nature of most of the songs, as well as it being a more theatrical release. Enjoy! (Watch in HD!) “The Pony I Want to Be (Reprise)" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:40
“The Pony I Want to Be (Reprise)" from the episode “Crusaders of the Lost Mark" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E18). Sorry! --Track Specific Comments-- Second surprise of the episode: Redeemed Diamond Tiara! And it comes with a reprise! The ukulele in the background here definitely brings a resemblance in chords and beat to that of the backing track to “Make a Wish” from the previous musical episode in season 4, “Pinkie Pride”. The song itself is a more upbeat version of “The Pony I Want to Be”. After the first verse, the song has an instrumental section with a great string ensemble picking up the melody, before building up to the amazing finale. Percussion and brass are added on top, with a great french horn part as well. (Watch in 1080p!) “Shine Like Rainbows” Alternate Vocals & Orchestral Remix - MLP: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks

“Shine Like Rainbows” (Alternate Vocals & Orchestral Remix) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." **DOWNLOAD LINKS BELOW** --Overall Comments-- And here it is— the second Equestria Girls movie, Rainbow Rocks! Backing vocals are in the stereo channels, but addtional backing vocals, and only a few instruments are in most of the surround channels. This means that a true instrumental for any song in this movie is unfortunately imossible. Sorry! --Track Specific Comments-- This version of the track is something special! This is JUST the surround channels and the center channel. It provides for an EPIC remix of the song, with much orchestration and even an AJ solo. We don't usually get to hear AJ's backing vocals this clearly! Probably my favorite track from my rips. Just like last time, we get a fantastic closing song during the credits to take us out on! Of note, this is the first song in which Sunset Shimmer is singing with the Rainbooms, while Twilight is not, signifying her new placement in the group. The song itself is also fairly unique for the series, taking on a much more “gospel” music feel, especially toward the end. We start out with some great solos from Applejack, Rarity, and Sunset before we get to the chorus. This song, like the Rainbooms’ other offerings, has very strong vocal harmonies throughout. They are especially prominent during the bridges to the chorus as the entire group sings. The best part is definitely the bridge leading into the final chorus, as well as the final chorus itself. This is when the full choir joins in, and gives the song it’s “gospel” music feel. The vocals take over this part in a way that few other MLP songs have, and gives the ending potentially even a bigger, more emotional feel than the ending of “Welcome to the Show”. "Let the Rainbow Remind You (Extended Version)" (Highest Quality) - My Little Pony: FiM

02:05
"Let the Rainbow Remind You" from the episode "Twilight's Kingdom — Part 2" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S04E26). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). -=-=-NEW-=-=- This extended version of "Let the Rainbow Remind You" was just released on Hasbro's YouTube channel! As with the extended "This Is Our Big Night" which was released a few days ago, I have done better than just taking the audio directly from the lower-quality YouTube video. Instead, I went back into my original high-quality source file, and edited together the extended song's layout myself, only having to use the lower-quality YouTube audio for the new verse which was not in the original! So enjoy the extended version in the highest quality possible until it's more than likely released on the next official soundtrack release! Unfortunately, I was not able to put together an instrumental version of this. The second verse's instrumental part is unique (it has a different and more up-beat percussion track), so I would have to pull it from the YouTube video audio rather than my high-quality audio source. However, the YouTube video has a ton of sound effects at that particular part which cannot be removed via the center-pan vocals method. They wind up distorting the track way too much. Plus, Rarity's vocals can't be removed at all for some reason--she must not be completely in the center (or has too much reverb). That being said, once this song is released in a higher-quality form on the next official MLP soundtrack (which, from the SDCC panel, seems like will happen), I will attempt an instrumental version again using the sound effects-less version from that! (Original song comments & extended download links below) --Track Specific Comments-- And now here's the second and final song from the two-part season finale! This is a fun, upbeat song which is a perfect way to end the episode and season, much like "Love is in Bloom" from season 2's finale. We start out with a rocking' mandolin part, leading into solos from Twilight and Fluttershy, and then into a fantastic harmony-filled bridge and chorus. This track has a great backing beat and horn parts. Probably the best part about this song is the scene that appears with it, and how the work together. During the chorus, we get to see all of the key-givers from the key episodes this season, including Coco, Spitfire, Cheese Sandwich, The Breezies, and Silver Shill. The way this is presented, in conjunction with this song, was amazing, and really exuded tons of emotion. What a perfect way to end the season! “Open Up Your Eyes“ Instrumental - My Little Pony: The Movie

03:20
“Open Up Your Eyes“ (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: The Movie." (DOWNLOAD IN DESC) --Overall Comments-- After years of waiting, it's finally here: the My Little Pony Movie! There's more than enough to talk about with it, from the epic story to the gorgeous animation. However, we're here for the music, so let's discuss that! For this musical adventure, as with the show's musical episodes, Daniel Ingram and his team have not only taken on the song duties, but also the score. In addition to this, the movie also utilizes a full live orchestra for the songs and score, rather than the normal samples, digital instruments, and session players of most TV episodes. You can really hear the difference in the quality of the sound, which is saying a lot since the show's music has always sounded great. Ingram and team have graced us with 5 original songs for the movie, and some fantastic, sweeping, and sometimes beautiful score and new motifs. You'll hear themes repeated throughout for the new friends the Mane 6 and Spike meet on their journey. A few notes about my rips. First off, much like the Equestria Girls movies, the songs are mixed more for a theater than home setting. The difference here is the audio for the entire movie, not just the songs, are mixed this way, leading to a lot more dialogue in the stereo channels, more score in the center channel rather than just the dialogue/SFX, and a similar story for the surround channels. This makes the extraction process much more difficult, and certainly more so than it has ever been for the score. Due to this, don't expect to see everything here, as I'll be uploading what I can extract at reasonable quality. I was hoping the movie would get an official score release so I could avoid the hassle all-together, but alas... At the very least, this is from the uncompressed Blu-ray Master Audio source, so the lossless download options below are about as high quality as you can get! Due to the more involved nature of this, as well as the scope of the movie, I will not be uploading everything all at once like I normally do. Instead, I will be uploading tracks as I finish them, so stay tuned for more over the coming weeks! --Track Specific Comments-- Wow. This song. I'm really glad the movie included a villain song, and this one is fantastic! Daniel Ingram's composition, mixed with Emily Blunt's excellent vocals has really delivered something special here! The live orchestra really shines in this one, which features heavy use of horns and strings throughout. "Open Up Your Eyes" has a dark, menacing march like feel. I've heard it referred to as "if the 'Imperial March' was a song." The song begins right away with a menacing tone, and some strong string staccatos backing Blunt's vocals. We next reach the first chorus, and some brass and additional percussion enter. The chorus is the most march-like part of the track. I particularly love the arpeggio that separates the first and second part of the chorus. It begins on some horns which crescendo as the arpeggio continues, adding in some glockenspiel on the last travel up and down. After the first chorus, we reach the next verse. The song pulls back, featuring more woodwinds rather than brass, including some arpeggios on the flutes and clarinets throughout. The strings play a nice counter-melody, and the glockenspiel enters again subtly. As we reach the instrumental mid-section, the strings crescendo and drop off to follow the emotions of the vocals. We enter the flashback portion of the song, and the score becomes even softer and more emotional. A sad oboe takes the melody, before the strings take it back. As the flashback ends, we shift right back to the loud, bombastic, and angry chorus, with the full instrumentation now in play. The entire brass section joins in and shares the melody with the strings now, as the song builds to its epic conclusion. You might notice the vocal reverb left is in Spanish! The Spanish vocals had less reverb than English, so I used it. “The Seeds of the Past (part 1 & 2)" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:15
“The Seeds of the Past (part 1 & 2)" from the episode “A Hearth’s Warming Tail" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E08). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Wow! What an episode! My Little Pony takes on the classic Charles Dickens' tale “A Christmas Carol” with Starlight Glimmer filling the shoes of “bah, humbug” himself Ebenezer Scrooge. Producer-turn-writer Michael Vogel pulls out all the stops with this one, as it is this season’s musical episode! That’s right, prepare for six amazing holiday-themed songs from Daniel Ingram here, plus some fantastic backing score from him and orchestrator Caleb Chan, as they take over for William Anderson (as with all musical episodes). Not only is this a nice, abridged retelling of the classic story, it nicely mirrors Starlight’s own past. Plus, there’s solo songs by Pinkie, Applejack, and Luna; the last two of whom receive their first full solo number. The songs and story intertwine nicely, and deliver one of the most enjoyable My Little Pony episodes to date, I’d say. As with all of the MLP musical episodes, Ingram and Chan weave the orchestrations for the songs into the backing score between them, allowing for a seamless experience musically. This leads to almost 20 minutes of uninterrupted music for “A Hearth’s Warming Tail!” Without further ado, let’s dive into this episode! We’ve got a lot to cover. --Track Specific Comments-- Applejack is reveled to be playing the Spirit of Hearth’s Warming Past for this story, and she guides us into Snowfall’s past with this fantastic Applejack solo song! It begins with a horn-driven holiday fanfare, before we arrive at the more country-driven number. “The Seeds of the Past” moves gracefully from the banjo & guitar and more orchestral backing score. As we reach the second part, the orchestration moves more to the latter, with more woodwinds and strings added on top. The song concludes with an emotional part by Starlight, and a toned down backing of simple guitar and strings. Ashleigh Ball’s vocals are some of her best as Applejack here, hitting both the high and low notes perfectly in character. (Watch in 1080p!) "What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:56
"Morning in Ponyville" (Instrumental Version) from the episode "Magical Mystery Cure" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S03E13). The instrumental version. It seems the Mane 6's cutie marks and destinies have been switch, with both hilarious and depressing consequences. It's great getting more songs with the entire Mane 6 singing--they are always so enjoyable. My favorite part of this song is how the style of each pony's part is in the style of the pony which who's cutie mark, for example Fluttershy's backing has the bouncy style of Pinkie Pie's music. However, Ingram went the extra step and made the music be slightly off, so you can tell that this isn't what that Pony is supposed to be doing or best at. You can hear this better in this instrumental version. Also of note in the slightly-off throwback to "Art of the Dress" right before Applejack's part. I love the little things like that the creators put in. On a quality note, as always, removing the background vocals requires the use of only the surround channels, which usually sounds a little muffled. Watch the version with backing vocals for better quality on those parts. (Watch in 1080p!) “Battle (of the Bands)” Instrumental w/ Backing Vocals - MLP: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks

02:53
“Battle (of the Bands)” (Instrumental with Backing Vocals) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." **DOWNLOAD LINKS BELOW** --Overall Comments-- And here it is— the second Equestria Girls movie, Rainbow Rocks! Sorry! --Track Specific Comments-- The original star of the movie before it’s release, “Battle (of the Bands)” was the first song previewed in the months leading up to the movie. The song is definitely one of the more unique ones of the series in terms of style. Taking place in the cafeteria, just like the star song from the first movie, this track combines both the vocal stylings and production of a broadway musical number, with the synth and chorus of a current Top-40 song. Daniel Ingram does a fantastic job of interweaving siren-like vocals all throughout the backing vocals of this piece. It really gives you the feeling of exactly what is going on here—brainwashing. After the vocal beginning, the backing track of the song leads into an awesome, smooth electric guitar part for the first few verses. The drums begin to increase, with a very loud bass drum part. As we get into the chorus, more electronic instruments are added to the song, as the guitar gets more distortion. The production value on this song is incredible, and much credit for this goes to Caleb Chan. By far my favorite part of the song is definitely the choir during the chorus—especially the final repeat of it. It’s not very often we hear strong male vocals in an MLP song, and this song utilizes them beautifully. The feeling you get when the choir joins in the final bridge is incredible. Major props to Trevor Hoffman, who did the choral arrangement for this song! “We're Friendship Bound” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:00
“We're Friendship Bound“ from the episode “Road to Friendship“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S08E19). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- When Trixie is invited to perform in Saddle Arabia, her and Starlight travel together on a friendship road trip. While everything begins swimmingly, tempers soon flair over their cramped traveling quarters. It's great to have another episode with Trixie and Starlight, as well as seeing some locations again such as Somnambula. The extensive score of this episode brings back numerous themes as well, including leitmotifs for Trixie and the village of Somnambula. The Middle Eastern style of score also is utilized for a new character from Saddle Arabia, Hoo'Far, who appears throughout the episode. "Road to Friendship" also brings with it our fifth song of the season, and first singing role for Trixie in the main show, as she sings a duet with Starlight. A jazzy, horn-filled tune, it's extremely catchy and fun, and the continued use of the live horns from the My Little Pony: The Movie recording continues to shine in the song's instrumental. Quite a bit this week, so let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- A jazzy, big-band tune, in a similar vain of songs like "Pinkie's Present," "We're Friendship Bound" is an extremely upbeat and catchy duet featuring Starlight and Trixie. This is the first time we've had Trixie sing in the main show, and it's been a bit since we've had an extended song featuring Starlight. The song is interspersed with moments of witty banter dialogue between the two, which provides more light-hearted comedy to the upbeat song. Instrumentation-wise, the song features your standard jazz-fare: heavy use of horns, including muted trumpets, saxophones, piano, and some clarinets providing some backing counter melodies. To give the song that extra FiM flair, Daniel Ingram throws in some additional mandolin as well, which you can hear in the left channel. Additional backing vocals with Trixie singing harmonies to the main melody can be faintly heard in the right channel in a few parts of the song. You can check out the "backing vocals" version to hear them slightly more prominently, and mixed into the center. The song itself (and the episode's title) pay homage to the classic 1942 film "Road to Morocco." (Watch in 1080p!) "Time to Come Together" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Equestria Girls

02:10
"Time to Come Together" (Instrumental Version) from the movie "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls" based on the television show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Well, here we are: Equestria Girls! In "Time to Come Together," the Mane 6 must use friendship and teamwork to rebuild the gym in time for the dance, inspiring the rest of the school to pitch in and come together. This is another song with some great overall production. This song has a little more of a "modern pop-inspired musical" feel to it, and is very grand. Two things really sick out to me in this song: first off, the awesome drums. The off-beats really give this song some style. Second: the harmonies. This song has some insanely powerful harmonization in it, especially during the last half. It's incredibly powerful in the final chorus with a large harmony and an epic backing instrumental. The instrumental version really shows a lot of what I was talking about above very clearly. Listen to that drum beat, especially in the bridge. And it gets really, really good right after that for the final chorus as some synth strings are brought in. On an important side note, I must apologize that this instrumental is mono--there's nothing I can do about it. As I've mentioned in other instrumental videos, most of the songs in Equestria Girls are mixed quite differently from the show. That's the case with this song. Vocals in front, backing vocals in back, and a mono (and soft) instrumental in the center channel. At least we get an instrumental at all, as it is quite good! Enjoy! "Celestia's Ballad" Instrumental / "The Transformation" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:19
"Celestia's Ballad" (Instrumental Version) / "The Transformation" from the episode "Magical Mystery Cure" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S03E13). Also, as always, removing the background vocals requires the use of only the surround channels, which usually sounds a little muffled. "Glass of Water" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:54
"Glass of Water" (Instrumental Version) from the episode "Three's A Crowd" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S04E11). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- This might just be the most wacky episode of the show so far, and with Discord taking center stage is that really much of a surprise? Twilight and Cadance attempt to spend some quality world-not-in-peril time together at a traveling Starswirl the Bearded Museum. However, that time does not last long as everyone's favorite Draconequus shows up with quite the illness: Blue Flu. With Fluttershy out-of-town, Twilight and Cadence are forced to care for him. This episode's BGM is filled with sarcastic pity violin and a sizable amount of harpsichord. You'd almost think it's a Rarity episode. I guess the point being Discord is acting quite over-dramatically, much like Rarity—a nice subtle musical joke by William Anderson & team! Heck, Discord even requests a "fainting couch" during the episode, at which point everyone looks at Rarity. The BGM isn't all small and sarcastic, however. We do get a very high-octane battle piece as Twilight and Cadence battle the quite horrifying Tatzlwurm. And how could we forget the first Discord song? Boy, does it deliver! To go along with one of the craziest episodes so far, we get hands down the most insane, out-of-control song of the series. It's amazing John De Lancie was able to keep up. This episode will be remembered for years to come—or perhaps until next week...! --Track Specific Comments-- So here's what has to be the highlight of the episode, and one of the highlights of the series overall. Discord's first song, "Glass of Water" has the most insane pace, lyrics, and visuals we've heard and seen from the series thus far. The visuals themselves almost overload you by themselves, throwing non-stop visual gags and references for two whole minutes. There is so much packed into this sequence its ridiculous. The song itself is no different. What starts out with a mild pace, quickly turns into a out-of-control wild ride that keeps increasing in speed and complexity until we reach the end. Discord's singing is in a Sprechgesang-style, meaning he's not quite always singing nor just speaking, which fit's his character so perfectly. I've heard this song compared to "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin, which has Robin Williams as the Genie singing in a similar style. The entire sequence itself actually reminded me of Mumbo's musical number from another one of my favorite animated shows "Teen Titans" called "Master of Your Fate" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaaHOTJ-F0w). In fact, there's a lot of similarities between Mumbo and Discord anyway. The vocal expressions John De Lancie gives during this song are incredible and greatly fun to listen to. It's also fun to hear just how many rhymes with "please" Ed Valentine was able to come up with for this song. The backing track, orchestrated by Steffan Andrews, could not have been easy to create. He did a fantastic job matching the insanity going on in the lyrics and on screen, while maintaining a coherent melody. The ever-changing tempo of this song must have been fun to try and match in the orchestration. Plus, you've gotta love the bouncy sousaphone part in the background, which is even referenced on screen with a bouncing sousaphone pony in one scene. While I really like Friendship is Magic more traditional song and it's broadway-style number, it's always a treat to hear it try out new, different, and complex styles like in this song or "Bats". “Flawless“ Instrumental - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:17
“Flawless“ (Instrumental Version) from the episode “Fame and Misfortune” of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S07E14). (Watch in 1080p!) "Music in the Treetops" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

00:53
"Music in the Treetops" (Instrumental Version) from the episode "Filli Vanilli" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" (S04E14). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Prepare your insulin shots--its a Fluttershy episode! This episode was absolutely fantastic, and super-cute. The Glee Club-like band the Ponytones, of which Rarity and Big Mac (of all ponies) are a part of. They are planning on singing at a fundraiser for the Ponyville Pet Center. However, Big Mac blows out his voice at a turkey call with the rest of the Apple family, and cannot sing. So who has to step in and fill in for his deep bass voice so the show can go on? ...Flutterguy?! Gotta admit, that really came out of left field, especially when you are expecting an episode of Fluttershy singing! Flutterguy sounded fantastic though, and it was great seeing Fluttershy slowly becoming more and more comfortable and enjoying performing more and more the more she did it. And of course that brings us to the music. Coming just two episodes after the huge musical "Pinkie Pride," I was expecting one Fluttershy musical number. What we got was almost another musical episode. We start the episode almost right away with a beautiful new Fluttershy. The rest of the episode we hear the same Ponytones song multiple times, but each time it is a different version with different ponies singing. This includes an acapella, a full version, and short Fluttershy-gets-carried-away version, and an awesome version at the end where it gets mixed into Fluttershy's first song. Overall, the music in this episode was quite different from what we've heard from it before, and Daniel Ingram and his team continue to impress me with their ability to tackle so many different genres so well. William Anderson and his team do not disappoint with their score to the episode either, delivering a large number of tracks for the episode, including some fantastic emotional pieces. --Track Specific Comments-- It was a long time coming, but we have finally gotten another Fluttershy solo song! And yeah, Disney might as well just go ahead and add her to the Disney Princess collection! "Music in the Treetops" is a straight-up classic Disney musical number, with Fluttershy singing to birds and other animals. The backing track is filled with strings and various woodwinds, which of course fit Fluttershy perfectly. The highlight of this song, however, has to be the Flutter's singing. We don't get to hear Andrea Libman sing that much, since she doesn't usually sing for Pinkie. But she absolutely knocks it out-of-the-park with this song! The more operatic singing that encompasses the second half of the song is beautiful--especially her last note. Andrea hits that note perfectly! Also, I could watch the part at 00:41 forever. “Luna’s Future" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:38
“Luna’s Future" from the episode “A Hearth’s Warming Tail" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E08). --Track Specific Comments-- This song. This song is one of those that’s on a whole other level for the series. Luna finally receives a solo song for the series, and this time her singing voice is provided by singer, and newcomer to the series, Aloma Steele. Go look up her stuff on Soundcloud, she more or less IS Luna voice-wise, and it’s amazing that they got her for this! She does a phenomenal job; one of the best performances of the series. This very dark and foreboding number sounds like something out of an epic modern opera, and somewhat reminds me of some songs from “The Phantom of the Opera.” The backing track starts out simple, with repeating strings and a drum marching beat, but quickly builds as the song progresses. Additional blaring horns are added in to build into the song’s conclusion, helping the scene’s stakes and emotion rise exponentially. The song itself ends with an extended instrumental part, as Snowfall has her change of heart about the holiday. “Luna’s Future” is most certainly one for the best, most epic songs of the series, with an amazing orchestration behind it and vocals in front. It all comes together for the perfect number for Luna’s first solo. (Watch in 1080p!) “Derby Racers” - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:23
“Derby Racers“ from the episode “The Cart Before the Ponies“ of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E14). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- The Cutie Mark Crusaders are set up to compete in the Applewood Derby; but when they ask their sisters for assistance, they receive more help than they bargained for. This episode had a few unexpected things throughout. I was expecting some montage score during the carts’ construction, but when that scene began, I thought a song was beginning. Then, it turned out to not be a song. However, later during the race, the episode did surprise with a song, and it was revealed that the music during the previous montage was actually its instrumental! To top it all off, we did have a short race montage score to conclude the episode with. I believe that this episode had some of the best blending of score and song in the series, outside of the musical episodes. There were many times I was having trouble figuring out if pieces of score were parts of the song’s instrumental or not, as William Anderson did a superb job of playing upon the song’s style, especially in the final race montage. The song itself has that season 1 & 2 feel to it, with heavy acoustic guitar and mandolin, as well as a fun, extremely catchy melody. This is only the third episode which features an instrumental of the song featured in the episode (the other two being “Winter Wrap Up” and this season’s “Spice Up Your Life”). However, this is the first episode in which said instrumental appears before the song itself! Let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- “Derby Racers” is a fun, simple song which really carries that Season 1 or 2 style. It has the strong acoustic guitar and mandolin presence, and an extremely catchy melody. The song seems to begin with a bit of the final racing montage’s score by William Anderson. This score then seamlessly blends in with the actual start of Daniel Ingram’s song. From there, we have a short chant leading us into the first verse. Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash each receive solo parts in the verses, with the CMC joining in with some fantastic harmonies between the three. The chorus has a fun feeling with all of the spectators join in with a sing-chant. The beat might be the most catchy part of the song, both in the lyrics and percussion. The vocal buildup in the bridge to the final chorus is also very enjoyable. (Watch in 1080p!) “The Pony I Want to Be" Instrumental w/ Backing Vocals - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

01:43
“The Pony I Want to Be" (Instrumental with Backing Vocals) from the episode “Crusaders of the Lost Mark" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E18). (Watch in 1080p!) “The Magic Inside" Instrumental - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:21
“The Magic Inside" (Instrumental Version) from the episode “The Mane Attraction" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S05E24). (Watch in 1080p!) “Can I Do It On My Own" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:23
“Can I Do It On My Own" from the episode “Flutter Brutter" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E11). (DOWNLOAD LINK BELOW). --Overall Comments-- Fluttershy finally receives an episode this season, in which we are introduced to not only her brother, but also parents! Her freeloading sibling is once again taking advantage of Mr. and Mrs. Shy, and it’s up to Fluttershy to try and help him overcome his fear of failure, and do stuff on his own. It was quite enjoyable seeing Fluttershy put her assertiveness lessons into action in this episode! The score for “Flutter Brutter" is filled with both numerous classic Fluttershy woodwind themes, and some “hip” jazz-poetry score for her brother, Zephyr Breeze. Expect plenty of bass and bongos, especially in his title track. No credits music again this week (the past few episodes truthfully haven’t had any substantial [time wise] tracks that would fit nicely in the credits. Last week’s did, but that particular track appeared so close to the credits [and already appeared twice in the episode], so it was probably seen as repetitive to try and include it in the credits as well.) And to top it all off, we have a surprise song to cap off the episode’s story—the third episode with one this season. Great episode, great lesson, let’s dive in! --Track Specific Comments-- This is really a classic-sounding My Little Pony and Fluttershy song. It’s instrumentation is filled with acoustic guitar, mandolin, and woodwinds, and builds nicely to its conclusion. It’s instrumentation is similar to “Make This Castle a Home” as well, but with a less-grandiose buildup. “Can I Do It On My Own” is a montage song, meaning that its purpose is to allow us to see Zephyr gaining his self confidence, and practicing (over time) to style manes, in an entertaining and quick way. We also have something that’s rather uncommon for My Little Pony: male lead vocals. I’m happy that Zephyr received some singing lines in the song, no only due to the male lead vocals, but also because it was important to the song due to it being about him having to come to terms with failure, and moving past his fear of it. It was also fantastic having another song with a Fluttershy / Rainbow Dash duet. I really love their sound together, ever since their “May the Best Pet Win” song back in season 2. Listening to the instrumental, my favorite part is definitely the percussion. From little things such as well-placed glockenspiel and wind chimes, to the drum fills throughout, especially the one after the bridge to the final lines. The ending also brings in some brass at just the right time to emphasize the triumphant nature of what Zephyr is doing for himself. A lovely Fluttershy (and Rainbow Dash, and Zephyr) song! “Say Goodbye to the Holiday" - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

02:19
“Say Goodbye to the Holiday" from the episode “A Hearth’s Warming Tail" of "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” (S06E08). --Track Specific Comments-- The second song of “A Hearth’s Warming Tail” is an ominous and forbidding villain song sung by Starlight Glimmer! It’s been quite a while since we’ve had one of these of this nature in the main series, and Ingram delivers here. The first and best part of this song are certainly Kelly Sheridan’s fantastic vocals. Its nice hearing the “old" Starlight coming through in her character here. I love the amount of expression put into them throughout. The orchestration matches well, with a mischievous, bouncy feel to it, complete with plenty of brass and string ensemble, and a sprinkle of glockenspiel to bring the holiday theme. (Watch in 1080p!)
