Making the SPIDER-MAN Mask! Movie Costume Replica

09:52
Full detailed step-by-step guide to making the Raimi spiderman costume mask. I spent months gathering all the footage and put it all together in a 10 minute fast forward video. All secrets that took me 14 years to develop are revealed. Watch how the spiderman face shell is assembled in this video: https://youtu.be/5AEjO6lnaQc Watch a spider-man story video here: https://youtu.be/bl_QtMDSEhg The plaster spider-man head in the beginning of the video is 3D scanned, then the shape is duplicated in the form of a face shell design. The face shell is 3D printed at shapeways.com. You can get your own in my shop on: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/spideyplanet The spiderman fabric is printed digitally and the colors are enriched after with fabric dye. The webs are CNC milled and casted from urethane. The sides of the spiderman webs are painted dark gray afterwards. The webs are glued onto the fabric using Loctite 4861, which is a flexible super glue. The strip that goes on the inside of the face shell is used to keep the fabric in place. It is simply cut from foam rubber and provided with double sided carpet tape. SPIDER-MAN The Original Movie Suit – Top Quality Replica Costume

14:01
Here’s my latest work! I’ve been working for the past 6 months on improving the spiderman costume. The most important change I made to the suit is the fabric and the printing process. The costume is now printed on the exact same fabric they used for Tobey’s costume in Spider-Man 2 & 3. The printing technique used is also identical and both the red and blue fabric’s colors are enhanced after printing by fabric dye. Notice how bold and bright the colors are on this suit. The face shell has also been updated, but that’s nothing new. I keep improving the design I’m at version 15 by now. And there’s more to come, just have a look at minute 12:18 see what’s on the blue cupboard behind spiderman and let me know in the comments what you think it is! You can buy the 3d printed face shell in my shapeways shop: http://www.Shapeways.com/shops/SpideyPlanet At the very end of the video I made a few shots using an original muscle piece that was screen worn in the movies. My friend El Fett is working on a full body muscle suit replica that can be worn underneath the spiderman costume. Check out his work on instagram: el_fett. I’ll be making a video with his muscle suit soon! Spider-Man Face Shell Magnetic Eye Frames - Assembling 3D Printed Mask

02:18
The essential part of completing the perfect spiderman suit replica is the Face Shell Set. Here’s an instructional video on how to assemble it. You can get the Face Shell Set here: http://www.Shapeways.com/shops/SpideyPlanet Check out the new video of the 100% movie accurate face shell set here: https://youtu.be/5AEjO6lnaQc SpideyPlanet youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe! https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet The spiderman face shell mask and eye frames are 3D printed using the SLS technique. Quality of the plastic is fantastic, it's strong yet slightly flexible. The eye frames are 3D printed in the same material as the face shell mask. For a perfect finish the eye frames are painted by surfacer paint, polished thoroughly with 3 different grits of sand paper to get the surface super smooth, then airbrushed with a metallic black paint. The result is beautifully smooth eye frames with perfect light reflection and metallic effect. It takes time but it's totally worth the effort since the eyes are such an important part of the final impression of the spiderman costume. The convex lenses are hand-made. They don't only give a light reflection to the eyes, they also deepen the eye lenses by 2 millimeter, which gives a feel that the eyes are actually 'inside' the spider-man mask. The deeper eyes can only be achieved because the eye frames actually sink inside eye holes of the face shell. To increase the deep eyes effect, the mesh is airbrushed with a shadow edge. Something they did not do for the first spider-man movie in 2002, yet was added to the design for the second spiderman movie in 2004. The spider man costume face shell set is completed with a pair of anti-fog lenses, that prevent the convex lenses from fogging up. The raw 3D printed material can be damaging to the fabric of the spider-man costume mask. Therefore it’s important to sand the face shell thoroughly. Don’t worry about the face shell losing some of its black color. Test with a piece of fabric on the spiderman shell if the surface is smooth enough. Draw a dot on each magnet, all on the same pole side, to make sure the magnets will attract and not bounce. Any type of super-glue can be used for glueing down the magnets. Glue the magnets into the spiderman face shell with the black dot outwards. Glue the magnets into the spiderman eye frames with the black dot inwards. Spider-Man Suit How-To-Wear - Getting Inside the Costume

01:46
Here's a good view on how you get inside the spiderman costume. To see how the magnetic eye frames are applied to the spider-man mask check out this video: https://youtu.be/BUOw4eUZkM8 Check out the other spiderman suit videos in my youtube channel! https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe link: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet I recommend you have at least 1 person help you get inside the spider-man costume and zip you up. First you enter the boots of the spider man costume, then you pull up the costume until your hips. Now enter the arms of the spider-man suit and make sure the hands are in the right position. When the arms are in place you can insert your head into the costume's mask, that has a 3D printed face shell inside. Be careful not to force the zipper, which begins and ends underneath your arm pits. What you see me do is grab hold of the zipper on both ends so that Steve can easily slide into the suit. Once the spider man suit is worn, the zipper can't be forced any more and Steve a.k.a. spiderman can make any move he wants. Always spend some time making sure everything is in the correct position, and possible wrinkles are removed. This film shows how I put everything in place after the suit is worn: https://youtu.be/KkmyHY1QYas Check out more of the spider-man costume replica here: http://www.Facebook.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.YouTube.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.SpideyPlanet.com

Spider-Man Costume with Removable Mask

06:49
Ok after many years of questions, here's how they do it in the movies: They make 35 spiderman suits for one movie alone. Only a hand full of these are made with a removable mask. The suits with removable mask are only used for the shots where Tobey Maguire does not wear his mask. As soon as he puts the mask back on, they cut to another shot where the actor wears a spider-man costume with attached mask. Once the mask is on, it's even likely that Tobey isn't the actor inside the spiderman costume any more and he's replaced by a stunt-man. The removable mask is a good choice for people that use the suit mostly without mask. The beautiful choice is still the attached mask though. Moreover the detachable hood is slightly less durable, since the neck area needs to be stretched out the most every time the suit is worn. The new feature I'm trying to show in this video is the color-shifting shadow edge that has been airbrushed onto the lenses. They used the same technique for the movie suit. The color shifts from purple to blue/green depending on the angle you look from. With some distance it appears black, which is why only few know about this feature. Spider-Man Face Shell Magnetic Eye Frames - How to Assemble 3D-Printed Mask

02:13
The shape of this Face Shell as well as the Eye Frame is 100% movie accurate. They have been made after 3D scans from original Spider-Man 2 (2004) movie production head buck and eye frame. Do note that the movie shell was differently produced. This shell was printed in 3D and has been perforated all over to reduce printing costs and offer breathing comfort. The follow up video on how to make the full spiderman mask will be up in about 2 months time! You can get the complete Face Shell Set here: http://www.Shapeways.com/shops/SpideyPlanet The essential part of completing the perfect spiderman suit replica is the Face Shell Set. For a perfect finish the eye frames are painted by surfacer paint then polished thoroughly with 2 different grits of sand paper to get the surface super smooth. The eye frames are then airbrushed using a mold to get the sides black and the front of the eyes metallic gray, to create a more 3D (pop-out) eyes look. The result are beautifully smooth eye frames with perfect light reflection and metallic effect. It takes time but it's totally worth the effort since the eyes are such an important part of the final impression of the spiderman costume. The convex lenses are hand-made at 2 millimeter thickness. On the front there are polarized dots airbrushed-on. At the back there's a color-shifting shadow edge airbrushed-on. The polarized dots create a deepness and aliveness effect in combination with the metal mesh that is 2mm deeper. It is super awesome! Then there's the color shifting edge that makes the eyes even more alive as the look changes from every angle. The face shell set is completed with a pair of anti-fog lenses, that prevent the convex lenses from fogging up. The raw 3D printed material can be damaging to the fabric of the spider-man costume mask. Therefore it’s important to sand the face shell thoroughly. Any type of super-glue can be used for glueing down the magnets. Always glue the magnets into the spiderman face shell with the black dot inwards. The face shell set comes with extra soft padding pieces that are used to install the face shell inside the mask. Stay tuned for my next video to see how the mask is made! My Suit in 2013 - Spider-Man Costume Replica

00:52
Here's a video I made 2 years ago of what the spiderman suit looked like in 2013. This film shows you what the new suit looks like: https://youtu.be/TyBomzQLb7s My youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe to my channel for more: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet I can't believe I made this video only 2 years ago. The difference between this spiderman movie suit and my new version is huge. I've updated every single detail of the suit, a process that took me over a year to accomplish. Yet the old design looks pretty cool as well ;) The basics of this spider-man suit are the same as on the new suit. The fabric is the same and the material used for the webs is the same as well. The designs have changed though and this suit does not feature the 3D printed face shell that is now installed inside the mask of the spider-man costume. The biggest problem with not having a face shell in the mask of the spider man costume is the fact that the eyes can't be positioned correctly, nor can the eyes have the correct rounded shape. If you're fortunate like me with not such a badly shaped head, you can quite pull it off. Yet nothing comes close to having a perfect shaped face shell under the spider man suit's mask. As my new videos will surely show you! Spider-Man Getting Ready - Movie Costume Replica

01:44
Me preparing my friend Steve who's wearing the spiderman suit for a photo shoot. To see how the eyes are inserted in the spiderman mask afterwards, see this video: https://youtu.be/BUOw4eUZkM8 A lot more spider-man videos on my youtube channel! https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe link: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet For me it's a new experience having a model wear the spider-man suit instead of myself. Until 2013 I always wore the costume myself. Now I get the chance to pay good attention to the spiderman suit and make sure everything is working out perfectly so we can get some good shots. Then I go into editing and I feel it's much more fun to show me fooling around with the spider man suit instead of showing just the clean footage of the costume. The advantage of film is that I can give you a good vibe of what it's like to actually have the finished spider-man costume at your disposal. It's really quite the enterprise, not just the designing, researching and the making, but also wearing the suit, filming it, having sooo much fun with it just being continuously excited when working with it :D In the end youtube is all about broadcasting yourself, so that's what I'm trying to do as good as I can. I hope you continue to enjoy my spiderman videos, if there are any video requests just hit me an email. Making The Perfect Spidey Suit - Glueing the Webs

01:42
A look on how the webs are glued on to the spiderman suit using loctite 4861. Here you can see the entire sewing process of the spiderman costume. https://youtu.be/fOVeqJqMZ6Q Underneath the mask is a 3D printed face shell, watch the video here: https://youtu.be/NbSb16wSgUo My youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet Glueing the webs onto the spiderman costume is not a very difficult effort, yet it requires patience and precision. The webs are glued on to the spider-man costume after it has been sewn up. The spider-man suit is then pulled over a mannequin. It's best if the mannequin is slightly smaller in size than the person that will be wearing the spider man costume. The glue only needs a few seconds to attach the webs to the fabric of the spider man suit. Make sure you glue on the webs piece by piece. Cover the back of the web with a thin layer of glue and press the web down in the right place. There are more than 10 pieces of web on a full set of webs. If you look at the lines on the spiderman costume it will be obvious which piece goes where. To connect the different pieces of web you cut the ends of the web to the correct size. Make sure you leave some space so that you can allow the web line some stretch when glued down. When you apply the glue, make sure you apply a very thin amount of glue on one of the 2 web ends you just cut off. A small amount should be enough to connect the two ends perfectly. I recommend you use protective gloves when working with this super glue. When working with it for a longer period of time I recommend you wear protective glasses and breath protection as well. How-To Insert Magnetic Eyes - Spider-Man Suit

01:05
Here’s how easy it is to insert the magnetic eye frames into the spiderman costume. In this film you can see what the spiderman costume looked like before I finished the 3D printed face shell: https://youtu.be/MSmqcrTGo1c Or more videos can be found in my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Thanks for subscribing! https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet The eyes of the spider-man suit are removable due to a total of 8 magnets, that are applied to the eye frames and the face shell mask. The face shell is installed under the mask of the spider-man costume. Making the face shell was one of the most challenging parts of making the spiderman suit. For years I was unable to add the face shell to the spiderman costume, as my research showed me that making a shell to my required standards was not possible with the budget I had available. But then new 3D printing technology arrived and it opened all the doors. Not only could I keep fine tuning the design until it was exactly the way I wanted it to be, it also made it possible to easily create multiple sizes so everybody could wear one. With the initial help of a professional 3D designer, using Max 3DS, I spent about 6 months total to get the design exactly the way I wanted it to be. The eye frames are separate designs, and are magnetically locked into the face shell, with the fabric of the costume in between. This way the person wearing the spiderman suit has the comfort of taking out the eyes whenever he wants. Small holes are added to the designs, that allow magnets to be glued in. 3D printing is done by Shapeways in Eindhoven. It's printed in their black strong and flexible plastic on an SLS printer. The face shell for the spider man suit is only 2 millimeter thick, yet it's very strong and the slight flexibility it has makes it comfortable to wear. The raw 3D printed material however is damaging to the spandex fabric of the spider man costume, therefore the shell is thoroughly sanded before use. The eye frames are printed in white polished strong and flexible plastic, also on an SLS printer. They were more of a challenge, as it's important that they are very smooth and painted metallic black. It actually took me and a professional airbrush artist dozens of trials and errors to find out how to make them this perfect. First it's important to have them polished by Shapeways, to take off some of the rough surface. Then we paint the frames with surfacer after which the frames are sanded by hand, using 3 different grits to get it real smooth. Once it's smooth enough it's airbrushed in a metallic black color. The Perfect Spider-Man Costume Replica

01:04
Just fooling around with this awesomeeee spiderman suit :) To see what the suit looks like being worn: https://youtu.be/KkmyHY1QYas More videos on my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet Making the spiderman costume into perfection has become somewhat of a life's goal for me. When you're working on a complex design like this, all by yourself and with only a low budget available, well... things take time :P Like many more I had the dream to become the perfect spiderman, the way he was portrayed in the movie. And like many more I found out that the only way to achieve this was to build the entire spider-man suit myself. So I went for it all the way. And as long as the dream lasts you find ways to improve the spider-man costume more and more every time. If the dream lasts long enough, in my case 12 years, then you reach the point where there's just nothing to improve any more. And all you can do is sit back and enjoy the beauty of the perfect spider man costume. These days I no longer prefer to wear the spider man suit myself, since that way I'm unable to enjoy it. With this suit both the spectator as well as the person wearing the suit receive a very unique experience. Very important to the new looks of my spider man costume is the 3D printed face shell mask. New technology allowed me to make a perfect replica of the original shell they used for the film. The eye frames lock into the 3D printed face shell magnetically. Which offers a lot of comfort for the person wearing the suit and the eyes are easily replaceable. Plenty of videos and pictures of my spider-man costume can be found here: http://www.Facebook.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.YouTube.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.SpideyPlanet.com

Finished Spider-Man Suit Close-Up - Best Quality Movie Replica

01:40
Here's a good close-up look on the spider-man costume that took me 12 years to develop. How does he get inside the suit? Check out this film: https://youtu.be/2F9RQU-0AbM More videos can be found on my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet To see more of my suit you can subscribe to my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet I've put a lot of attention to what the spiderman costume looks from a close-up point of view. The 3D printed face shell that is installed inside the spiderman mask allowed me to take the face to a very detailed level. The biggest challenge were the eyes and the area surrounding the eyes of spiderman. I've added tiny gaps in the back of the eye frames. Only if the webs are glued onto the mask in the perfect position, the tiny gaps allow the eyes to connect flawlessly into the eye holes of the spiderman mask. The result looks fantastic. Like the webs, both spiders are casted from polyurethane rubber. They are perfect detailed designs and are glued onto the spiderman suit with the same glue that is used for the webs, loctite 4861. The hands of the spider man costume are a very precise effort to finish correctly. Not only the sewing is tricky, also glueing the webs perfectly all around the palm area takes a lot of care, since the webs on the hands are only 1mm thick. Inside the boots of the spider man suit there are comfortable slippers installed. There are proper soles underneath the boots, which allow the person wearing the suit to go anywhere he wants and show the world who his favorite marvel superhero character is :) My spider-man movie costume can also be seen here: http://www.Facebook.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.YouTube.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.SpideyPlanet.com

Here's some awesome unedited footage of the spiderman suit being filmed in a professional film studio. The spider-man suit in the video is the very first costume on which all the new updates came together. This suit was the first to feature the new pattern design and the new webs. Also I had just finished the latest update on the 3D printed face shell, making this the fourth and final version. After a few minor adjustments on the side of the shell, the jaw and the nose, the face shell design is now as good as it can possibly be. Everything worked out perfectly, the pattern fits like a glove and all the webs fit in their right position. The eyes of the spider man costume are magnetically removable, which offers a lot of comfort for the person wearing the suit. Spider-Man Making the Black Suit Glove - How to Glue the Webs

25:58
Extensive video instructions on how to glue the webs to the glove of the black spider-man symbiote suit. This tutorial can be used for the red and blue suit as well. The webs are glued onto the fabric using Loctite 4861. A super flexible (and expensive) superglue. Pay attention to how I use a different glue (pattex superglue plastics) to glue the web connections together. This glue allows for a better bonding when glueing rubber to rubber. It comes with an activator marker, that must be applied to both sides. The activator needs a minimum of 2 minutes before the glue can be applied. The glue only needs to be applied to one side. I don't usually record anywhere else but my home, yet the professional equipment does manage to give the most accurate view on the spider man costume, especially on how the fabric and webs are supposed to reflect the light. In the end the suit is designed for film. Under the spider-man costume mask there's a 3D printed face shell mask, that gives the head the perfect shape. The spiderman eye frames are provided with magnets, to make the eyes magnetically removable. Both webs and spiders of the costume are casted from urethane. The spider man suit is my life's work as I've been developing it for 12 years. Spider-Man Costume Replica Mask with Magnetic Eye Frames (unfinished)

01:23
Here’s a little video I made of a mask I’m working on :) Check out what the complete spiderman costume looks like in this video: https://youtu.be/TyBomzQLb7s See more of the suit on my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe for more to come: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet Thanks to new 3D printing technology I managed to take the spider-man costume to the next level. Under the spiderman mask there's a 3D printed face shell mask. The eye frames lock into the 3D printed face shell mask magnetically. This way the eyes of spiderman are easily removable from the costume for enhanced comfort, like they are on the original movie suit. The spider man 3D raised webs are casted in urethane from digitally milled molds and afterwards glued onto the 3D printed face shell mask with the fabric in between. This means the entire face is one solid part, so the person wearing the spiderman mask does not have to worry about any positioning around the face area. Anyone wearing the spiderman costume will have the perfect head shape. The 3D printed face shell mask comes in 3 different sizes to allow a perfect fit for any shape of head. I have been working on the spiderman suit since 2003. In this time period I made many costumes, each new spider-man suit slightly improving over its predecessor. Last year I finally reached the point where I managed to completely blow myself away by the result of all developments coming together in one spiderman costume. I am unable to hide my excitement when doing a new film shoot or seeing the spider man suit in action. The costume truly is a dream come true. Raw Footage Spider-Man Costume Replica - Unedited! Part 2/2

01:13
Part 2 of the raw unedited film footage of the spiderman suit with plenty shots I did not use in the final video. See part 1 here: https://youtu.be/kRyFWh2pcOs To see the final result of this footage, check out this video: https://youtu.be/AF6jYA885sQ Welcome to my SpideyPlanet YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet I've subtitled the video so that you get a better idea of what's going on. Spider-man is trying to move around like a real spider. The raw footage gives you a good idea of what it would be like to wear the spiderman suit yourself, and what it's like to move around in it. The spider man costume is surprisingly comfortable to wear, once you're inside. The pattern is a genius design that allows any possible move you can think of without forcing the spider man suit in any way. The professional recording equipment gives the most accurate display of the spider-man suit. After all the suit was designed for film. Inside the spiderman mask there is a 3D printed face shell installed that gives the head the perfect shape, and allows the eye frames to be magnetically removable. Spider-Man Magnetic Eyes Removal - 3D Printed Under Shell Mask

01:05
Here's a good view on how the magnetic eyes are removed from the spiderman costume. In this video you can see how easy it is to put the eyes back in: https://youtu.be/BUOw4eUZkM8 My youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet I try to make new videos whenever I get the chance, subscribe if you don't want to miss any: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet Underneath the mask there is a 3D printed face shell with magnets applied to it. The spider-man eye frames also have magnets to them, which allows for a very easy application and removal of the eyes. The removable eyes offer great comfort when wearing the spider man costume/mask plus it makes it possible to easily replace the lenses. For the movies of spiderman replacing the eyes was very important so that they could adjust the lenses according to the light on the set. My spiderman costume lenses are exactly like the standard lenses were made for the movie. They are a combination of hand-made convex lenses with airbrush shadowed mesh behind and some anti-fog lenses behind that. I have allowed the lenses to be easily replaceable, this way the one wearing the spiderman suit can experiment with different lens inserts, like mirrored or airbrushed lenses. Most likely they used these kind of lenses for the film as well. Spider-Man Suit on Table Spread Out - The Costume Unworn

01:23
The spiderman costume not worn, spread out on the table, front and back view. To see how you get inside the costume, check out this video: https://youtu.be/2F9RQU-0AbM A lot more videos on my youtube channel! https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Or subscribe for more to come: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet The spiderman costume is unworn just as beautiful as when you wear it. The suit is made from top quality italian spandex, which is a combination of nylon and lycra. Unlike the original spider-man costume they made for the Sam Raimi movies, the red and blue parts are separate pieces of fabric. This is because I print the pattern on dyed fabric. For the spiderman movie they decided to print on white fabric, which is easier, yet it's hard to achieve a real boldness to the colors. Although it's not usually recommended, I found a printing company willing to make test prints on red and blue dyed spandex. Luckily we managed to find the right settings by which the fabric does not melt down and the black & white spiderman print transfers satisfactory onto the colored fabric. What's interesting is that a print is never 100%, but the minor deviation is never visible on the finished spider man suit. The webs of the spider man costume are casted from digitally milled molds, for which I made the design myself. The new webs feature multiple angles, which allowed me to create webs that flow from thick into thin, without adjusting the thickness of the silver front. The thinner webs are present on the hands and the nose area of the spiderman suit. It's a subtle effect, but very important to create a natural flow of the webs giving the feeling of simplicity to the costume. The webs are casted in a metallic silver color, which looks just beautiful on film and in real life. The new webs, the new pattern and the new 3D printed face shell together allowed me to take this marvel superhero costume to the next level. I hope you enjoy the result as much as I do :) Check out more about my spider-man suit on: http://www.Facebook.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.YouTube.com/SpideyPlanet http://www.SpideyPlanet.com

In Love with my Spider-Man Suit

01:15
This is what happens when you spend 12 years of your life on a spiderman costume ;) Check out what the suit looks like when it comes to life in this video: https://youtu.be/TyBomzQLb7s More videos can be found on my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/SpideyPlanet Subscribe and don't miss a thing! https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=SpideyPlanet It all started after I finished high school back in 2004. Not knowing what to do with my life, I decided to take a year off and see what happens. Much like Halloween, in the Netherlands we celebrate carnaval where people dress up in just about anything. I had decided I wanted to dress up as my favorite Marvel superhero spiderman, but exactly the way he looked like in the 2002 Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man 2 was about to hit theatres and the spiderman hype was at a peak. No such thing as the avengers movies, iron man or the dark knight at the time, it was all about spiderman :) Sadly there was not much I could find on the internet of my liking, and I ended up with a spider man costume kit made by Spidyfan43. I finished the spiderman suit and although it was not quite at the level I had imagined, I really enjoyed the process. So I made quite a few more of these spiderman costumes, until I reached the point where I decided to have a go and make my own design. There was so much I wanted to change, yet I did not have any skills at the time. So I bought a sewing machine and started sewing all over the place. I trained myself in photoshop and illustrator, so that I could make designs for the costume pattern, the webs and spiders for the spider-man suit. After a bunch of spiderman costumes my work eventually resulted in a fantastic looking suit in 2007, which can be seen in this video I made with my aunt's handycam in the living room :) https://youtu.be/0j-t39XyC2E The response was fantastic! Not only was the spider-man costume very close to the original, I also managed to create great durability so that the suit could be worn over and over again. I believed I had made the perfect spider man suit. Guess I was wrong... Ever since 2007 I have been slowly developing the spiderman suit, making minor imrpovements here and there. I started studying media and film design at the art academy. During this time period I was unable to spend as much time and funds on new developments as I had liked to. Yet I did gather a lot of knowledge and at some point I knew exactly what had to be done to take the spiderman suit to the next level. So, when my studies were over, I decided to spend the entirety of 2014 on making the spider-man suit exactly the way I knew it had to be. With the help of some designers I made the amazing 3D printed face shell, which is such a crucial part of the spiderman costume. But also we worked on a completely new pattern, new web designs, new spider designs, new eye frames, new convex lenses, new mesh lenses... Basically every part of the spiderman costume would be re-built from scratch, but this time on a much higher accuracy level. I will never forget the day all the developments came together for the first time. Seeing all details work together on a single spider-man costume, so much perfection and beauty, it truly was worth the 12 years I spent on it. I hope you enjoy as much as I do!
